france prepares to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors. ♪ we begin in the united states. hillary clinton is claiming victory of the democratic party nominee for president. she won primary contests in four out of six primaries last night, including california. her opponent bernie sanders is yet to drop out. he will be meeting with president obama on thursday. the president has congratulated but not yet officially endorsed clinton. >> he will remain on the campaign trail. or is still a remnant of a campaign trail out there because there is still one single

primary to come for the democrats and that will be here in washington, d.c. but, there are those who will be tried to convince bernie sanders now to drop out of this race as quickly as possible, and that will include the highest office in the land, when bernie sanders goes to the oval office, to the white house on thursday he will probably hear from president obama that it would be best for for thecratic party successor for barack obama, for bernie sanders to drop out of the race and stop campaigning. but just after that meeting at the white house, bernie sanders has organized another of his big campaign events that will be here in washington, d.c. no signs that he will stop campaigning at this point. for the democratic party, to look as united as possible. that would be another message from president obama when he meets bernie sanders. the candidate from vermont

should really be dropping out and at some point, democrats and party officials would expect him to even join hillary clinton on stage to endorse her, officially something president obama also could be doing as early as this week. we do know that this is a president who's itching to get act out there on the campaign trail with hillary clinton. that official endorsement still to come. >> senior republicans are becoming more and more excess rated with their candidate, donald trump. >> there has even been one sensor -- senator from illinois who has de-endorsed trump. this is one senior party official who said he was going to vote for donald trump but after past statements over the past two days, yes decided to no longer vote for trump and to take back that endorsement rates there are other party officials who are criticizing donald trump more than ever, including the

speaker of the house of representatives, who says some of what donald trump said over the last few days was, quote, the definition of racism. we're talking about criticism from donald trump about a federal judge of hispanic heritage who is one of the judges in a case against trump university. that is a story that will go on for weeks and months, and donald trump isn't backing down at this point. there is a lack of an door's men here for the presumptive republican candidate, because in a few weeks time you will see the differences between the two campaigns on the campaign trail. hillary clinton will be joined on stage probably by the likes of the current president barack obama, by the past resident bill clinton, and the current vice president, joe biden. donald trump has none of that. bush senior and bush junior, both past presidents for the republican party have said they are not willing to endorse donald trump and of course it

therefore will not be joining him on the campaign trail. a lot of the endorsements he has been getting, very slow to come. as you just heard from the speaker of the house representatives paul ryan, he has endorsed donald trump, says he will vote for him, but is still criticizing him right now. despite there being two candidates left in the democratic race and only one in the republican race, it's the democratic party that is looking more united. >> let's head to some reports coming in to us from israel. aere has reportedly been shooting outside the army headquarters in the city of tel aviv. at least nine people injured heard our correspondent is in israel. do you have any more information at this stage? what is: i am watching happening. it's all being televised, of course. it's in a market just opposite military headquarters. it's crowded with people. assailant, has been

neutralized. not killed, i understand. he was under the gun and he was running through the market shooting people. there are still plenty of people. it's a warm evening and everybody is out. there are still plenty of people and still ongoing police searches to see if there was anybody else involved. but the assailant has been neutralized, not killed, and there are searches for further assailants. >> do we have any information about the suspect? reporter: not yet. it's basically happening in front of our eyes. i think it only happened 10 minutes ago. i'm telling you what i know, which is not much at the moment. there are still police running through the center of town. tel aviv, its opposite the main military headquarters. there is also this big market, big new market area, very popular in the day and the night, and it was full.

that's why there are nine people injured, one critically. the assailant, as i understand it, has been rendered not killed. anchor: a lot of people will be thinking about the recent violence in israel, particularly where you are in jerusalem, random stabbing incident against civilians. reporter: that's right. from as always a step up knife. you can injure and kill people more easily. that is why we are seeing so many more people -- normally in a stabbing we see one or two people injured or killed before someone is neutralized. here we have seen nine people neutralized. there is still the suspicion that this person was not acting alone, and that's why there are still ongoing searches in that area. this is a step up. if you are armed with a gun, it -- it's a different matter than a knife. a gun is something else, certainly in this area. of the tel aviv is one

cities -- considered one of the safest cities in israel. it is rarer for attacks to take place there than in jerusalem, or the south. reporter: that's right. it is the big secular capital of israel. there are palestinians who work in tel aviv, but many fewer than there are in jerusalem, and there are fewer attacks in tel aviv, generally speaking. thane more used to attacks what we had seen in the past months, with attacks mostly in the west bank and jerusalem. again, anfferent, attack at night at a very popular spot for israelis and tourists in the center of tel aviv opposite the military headquarters. it's different from what we've seen before. anchor: thank you very much. our reporter reporting from israel.

security situation. the government released a smartphone app that will inform users if a terrorist attack happens nearby. andrew has the details. reporter: with the clock ticking down to friday's kickoff, security is tighter than ever across france ahead of euro 2016. wednesday the french government released an emergency alert application for smart phones. it releases a warning for users if a terror attack happens nearby. >> if you activate your location, you want to be informed. will allow you to receive live alerts about incidents. france's ministry of four and affairs, officials have set up a hotline that will be activated only if a terrorist attack takes place. >> it will end up here. they will be capable of

supplying variable -- valuable information to the families. reporter: the security challenges facing france are huge. more than 7 million fans are expected to watch the games for free on giant screens in designated fan zones. to cope with the potential threats facing them, france is rolling out a record 90,000 security personnel. >> there is no air of danger out here. >> i feel safe. there's no problem. reporter: the french police will be backed up by support from elsewhere too, like the u.k. including deployment of additional police on trains into france, more u.k. border force. we are helping with sniffer dogs and any other areas the french ask us for. reporter: with extra security measures in place, the french are hoping that euro 2016 will

be memorable for sporting only. anchor: violence hit turkey for the second day in a row. killedt 4 people were and 30 wounded in an attack on a police station on the border of syria. he victims included two civilians and two police offi cers. the government has continued to blame tuesday's blast on kurdish militants. reporter: panic strikes another turkish town as a plume of smoke rises from the rubble. a blast targeted a police station in the kurdish majority city not far from the syrian border. witnesses said a car loaded with explosives drove at the building and blew up when police opened fire to stop it. turkish authorities blamed turkish pkk militants, the same group the government believes is responsible for the deadly rush-hour bombing tuesday morning in istanbul. >> as you know, the attack is

high alert in recent months after a string of deadly attacks across the country. some claim to buy the pkk, others by the islamic state group. anchor: there has been a surge in violence around the syrian city of aleppo. government airstrikes have been pounding rebel positions in the east of the contested city. rebel groups had been shelling the government health positions in the west. at least 15 civilians killed. our reporter has more. reporter: the government claim to launch an attack on this area just moments before this footage was shot. the streets of aleppo filled with smoke and panic. not much survived the explosion. some houses are on fire. the ground. to scenes of destruction all-too-familiar in this war-weary city. >> they dropped barrel bombs on our neighborhood.

they hit the hospital. people were killed and others injured. he news agagency confirmsms the claims that barrl bombs were, as they have been previously, the syrian regime's weapon of choice. some 200,000 people under territory in rebel control, most of them civilians, are under siege. a cease-fire did come into effect on february and was largely respected for a time, but fighting has since returned to aleppo. anchor: we can go back to israel now, following reports of a shooting in the city of tel aviv. have beenine people wounded, according to police. one person is in a critical condition. our correspondent told us

earlier the shooter has been neutralized but not killed. israeli police say the shooting was an apparent attack aimed against israelis. people were out in bars and area very close to the central military headquarters in the city of tel aviv. this attack is the first after a street the almost daily attacks carried out by palestinians against israelis, randomriod of quite violence began in october and went on for several months. at least nine people were wounded, one person critically. that's the latest information we have. you can see scenes of confusion in tel aviv at this time, as police and medics tried to get control of the situation. our correspondent tells us police are saying that more than one suspect is involved in the shooting. we will be keeping a close eye on that for you. let's get some business news. mars is -- marcus carson is in the studio with us.

a cosmetics company facing problems in asia. reporter: the brand and its parent company, l'oreal, are facing higher pressures or rising pressure in hong kong. the company had to close its the territory earlier because of protests. the protesters are accusing the company of bowing to china by canceling a concert with a singer, who expressed support for hong kong's democracy movement and the dalai lama and applied event with her was canceled after a critical online post by the chinese paper "the global times." l'oreal said the concert was canceled due to safety concerns. i was quite shocked that such a global, worldwide brand would internet bullying

and also some obvious political pressure. reporter: that was the singer and activist at the center of this controversy. next up, the european central bank rejects criticism that its efforts have gone too far. in an interview with "france 24 ," a board member says the actions of the ecb are reviving growth. it comes as the ecb is entering uncharted territory by buying debt. reporter: volkswagen, telefonica,, a french supplier ef, they are among the companies whose debt is being snapped up to the european central bank. thanks to the corporate bond buying program that kicked off wednesday. with these bonds, the bank will in effect finance eu companies.

the program will focus on firms in the utility, telecom, insurance, and consumer goods sectors, and by focusing on these larger investment grade the banke hope is that will refocus our attention to smaller companies. this is part of a larger ecb policy to grease the wheels of the company by making credit more affordable. frankfurt-based organization has been criticized for intervening on the market and overstepping its mandate. but it's more -- board members stand by their measures. not done whathad it's been doing for several years now, there would be no growth in the euro zone. inflation, according to our economists' calculations, would be weaker. it would be negative, with risks of a deflationary spiral. the alternative scenario would have been less than ideal. >> with this latest move, the
