overseeing operations in northern syria. the u.s. has confirmed it carried out an airstrike tuesday, targeting adnani, but has yet to confirm that he indeed was killed. julia kim has more. ,ulia: abu muhammad al-adnani the man who orchestrated the islamic state group's attacks abroad, was officially declared dead by the jihadist newsagency tuesday. reports suggest adnani had been killed while overseeing operations in aleppo. washington has yet to confirm his death, but it did announce a u.s. airstrike had targeted adnani in the syrian city of of aleppo. it would mark a significant blow to militants. >> he was much more than that it he is one of the islamic state's most senior people in syria. widely thought to be a propaganda chief, military planner, as well as excellent orator.
