5:39 am
to accepting the outcome of the vote if he loses. one of the prides of this country is the peaceful transition of power and that no matter how hard fought a campaign is that at the end of the campaign, the loser concedes to the winner. are you saying you're not prepared? >> i will tell you at the time. i will keep you in suspense. >> let me respond to that because that is horrifying. thingsime donald thinks are not going in his direction he claims whatever it is is rigged against him. genie: let's go to washington with gallagher fenwick. there has been a lot of reaction to that comments from mr. trump. what more can you tell us? >> the first reactions came from within the room where that debate was being held. according to a source, you could hear gasps in the audience when donald trump seemingly refused
5:40 am
to acknowledge the fact that if he were to lose this election that he would recognize the validity of the process and the results themselves despite the insistence of chris wallace for him to clarify that response. definitely unprecedented moment in presidential history in the u.s.. that was very much the reaction of millions of americans who were watching that debate and within donald trump's own republican camp in particular just to quote senator lindsey graham who is actually one of the republicans running up against him in the primaries who immediately issued a statement saying that donald trump is doing a disservice by saying those things to himself and to his country. graham concludes by
5:41 am
saying that if donald trump loses it is not because the system is rigged but because he failed and that is a quote from that statement. you had similar words coming from other republicans who are very much shocked by that aatement which really crossed redline for many folks out here. statementseems that might appeal to more of his antiestablishment backers. it seems at this point you will be unlikely to reverse opinion polls which are showing him very close to or losing in some key states in the election coming up. >> absolutely. these debates were supposed to be about trying to broaden's ones base and a appeal to the undecided voters, independence. it does not seem that was donald trump's strategy. he seems to be solidifying his days with those kinds of comments.
5:42 am
cnn orc rightd by after the debate gave a clear win to hillary clinton with a 52%. definitely donald trump it seems wants to go down with guns blazing. he is slipping behind and quite quickly in national polls also in some key battleground states. actually turning previously solid republican red states into potentially blue states. victory for the democrats. that is probably because of this strategy he has adopted. it paid off during the republican primaries but is simply not working at the national level in a one-on-one race against his democratic rival. at least according to the polls. there's 20 days left before elections.
5:43 am
it does seem very difficult to see a clear path to victory for the republican candidate. genie: thank you. police france french staged a third day of protests against what they say are increasingly difficult working conditions. took to the streets after a molotov cocktail attack seriously injured officers earlier this month. fed up withhey are being attacked and need more legal protection. protests prompted an emergency meeting between the french interior minister and police union. he announced a series of measures including opening a national dialogue to address further grievances. a these france is angry police, interior minister met with u.n. leaders on wednesday to address their growing frustration. these policemen are asking for appreciation.

rapidly translate into concrete measures. these would be police killers throwing molotov cocktails like it's normal. there needs to be a strong response to this kind of situation. >> more measures will be announced by the end of the year. genie: time for our business news with charles. withll start in frankfort the european central bank expected to announce its decision on interest rates. mario draghi is expected to say he is holding rates at their current record low of 0% to the goal continues to be to reboot inflation as well as the economy. the question is whether he will talk about plans for bond buying in 2017. there were rumors he could start tapering the asset purchasing program he started in 2015. the possibility of losing the support has made investors quite nervous. genie: how are the markets reacting? >> in europe the main indices

5:50 am
home brewing will tell you that the pleasure of making beer yourself is that it's a complicated process you can mess up in so many different ways. for those who found it frustrating this is maybe the option if you have $800. genie: time for the press review. it is all about the third and final presidential debate. >> they were coming in as the debate was going on. the commentators started settling on what they were going to take away from this last presidential debate. let's start with the new york times which leads with trump won't say if he will accept the election results. you may notice a similarity in the washington post. their homepage says trump refuses to say whether he will accept the election results. this is not just in the u.s.. the paper in france has a similar headline.
5:51 am
the republican refuses to say whether he will accept the results of that election. the u.k. as well the independent saying exactly the same thing on its homepage. across the board. the big take away point from the debate. why was that such a big deal? times talks about donald's contempt for democracy. the reason this was such a big deal was that by saying that he was going to leave everybody in suspense as to whether he would accept the election results he basically called into question one of the absolute tenets of the u.s. and u.s. politics which is a real respect for a functioning democracy. suresically said i'm not if that democracy works which hillary clinton picked up on. he also sounds a little bit like a bad loser. saying, i will accept the results if it goes my way. genie: that was not really
5:52 am
reflected on twitter. all the ideas of democracy and politics went out of the window because the only thing that people were focusing on was bad hombres," trump said that referring to mexican criminals. he said he would get rid of them if they were -- he were president. that led to a raft of jokes. here we have one. hombres sounds like a quentin tarantino thriller starring danny trejo and josh brolin," this three amigos from the 1986 film. finding a little bit of lightness to a very serious comment. genie: who seems to have come
5:53 am
out on top? >> the results are still coming in. the polls are adjusting. the l.a. times was the first. they have been scoring as the debate went along and they came up fairly quickly with we scored the third presidential debate. hillary clinton won and it wasn't even close. specialistsree monitoring this through the evening. returned to the angry men of the first debate, interrupting repeatedly, at one point calling her such a nasty woman. they said he needed to be thoughtful and measured. he failed. i will take you to cnn. they have an aggregate they have collected of all of the different polls showing clinton at 47%, trump at 39%.
5:54 am
media kind of disputing that idea. fox news carried this opinion piece that he did rather well. this woman is writing saying, he is a very fast learner. the difference between his performance and that last one was very marked. she said that he may have called that vote rigging scandal. he said there might be vote that could she says have been a tactic to galvanize his supporters to go to the polls. one more from the new york post. saying, trump finally delivers. a breath of potentially fresh air for that but it won't keep hillary out of the white house. for many people watching this debate neither candidate really represents who they are. you found an article that looks
5:55 am
at what that might mean for the final result. genie: this is a vice article which starts in nevada. residents voting there have an option on the ballot paper of none of these candidates if they don't find any of the candidates appealing. most of the country doesn't have that option. they are saying they are going to use it by not voting and it is not from laziness. vice describes two months before each election the polls asked a group of people whether they plan to vote. this year only 47% said they were planning to vote. that is down from 74% in 2008. it basically shows the story we are seeing across the states which is an american population disenfranchised from washington politics. the same kind of disenchantment with washington politics which is why michael moore decided to rush through his latest film which is called trump land and
5:56 am
gave it a free screening in new york to try and bring voters over to clinton and stop them from not going to the polls or to stop trump supporters from voting for him ahead of hillary clinton. he said he was so scared by the brexit vote that he didn't want the same thing to happen in the u.s.. genie: thank you for that look at reaction to last night's presidential debate. for a closer look at this press review you can always check out our website. france 24.com. , a closer look at france's elite graduate schools in the next french connections on the way.
