investing in america. japanese auto giant toyota will spend billions in the u.s. following criticism by president-elect donald trump. and looking ahead. thousands of people in japan acelebrating the start of their adult lives this week after making the country's coming of age day. japan's top diplomats to south korea have briefed prime minister shinzo abe on a diplomatic row. they were temporarily recalled in protest over a statue outside the japanese consulate general in pusan. the figure symbolizes people referred to as comfort women. abe recalled the ambassador along with the japanese consul general to pusan. he heard from them tuesday on seoul's response to the issue. japanese government officials have been calling on south korea to remove the statue. they say it runs counter to a 2015 bilateral agreement. the agreement states that south

korea will strive to resolve the conflict over a similar statue in front of the japanese embassy in seoul. japan's chief cabinet secretary yoshihide suga told reporters south korea has said that there's no change to its position. it says seoul intends to carry out the agreement. they both acknowledged that the agreement would be final and irreversible. >> translator: it is extremely important that the governments of japan and south korea responsibly implement the agreement. i will continue asking south korea to do so tenaciously on every occasion. >> the japanese government will decide when to reinstate the diplomats after getting seoul's response. south korea's prime minister and acting president has told his cabinet that the 2015 agreement should be honored. he also had a word of caution for the members.

u.s. employment, noting that its largest factory is located in the united states and not in japan. he added that 136,000 people across the country are on toyota's payroll. at the detroit auto show, the president of honda motor also addressed his company's manufacturing plans. >> translator: we intend to maintain our production in mexico for now. we will wait for the president-elect's policies to become clear before reviewing our plans. >> hachigo also stressed honda's contribution to the u.s. economy and said the company will keep building on its operations in the united states. he noted that honda was the first japanese auto maker to manufacture its vehicles in the country. checking the markets, tokyo stocks continued to decline falling if are the third straight day. many were cautious before trump's news conference.

improving airports and tourism resources. japanese researchers say artificial intelligence will take away more jobs than it creates in the coming decade. they predict a net loss of 2.4 million positions in japan by 2030. analysts at mitsubishi said 5 million jobs will be created and 7.4 million will be eliminated. the manufacturing industrial will see the most cuts by a loss of 1 1/2 million jobs. the report is not all bad news. the analysts expect that technology innovation will help the economy grow. it will ease the labor shortage stemming from the country's declining population.

thousands of people competed for the title of luckiest person. of the year. they were taking part in a new year foot race at a shinto shrine in western japan. it's held every january 10th as part of a ritual to pray for success in business. about 5,000 men and women lined up at the shrine gate for the race's 6:00 a.m. start. when the gate opened, they dashed to the main hall 230 meters away. the top three runners were crowned the year's luckiest men and women. the fastest runner this year was a 21-year-old university ststudent. >> translator: i'm just very happy. i'veve watched it on tv v every year, so i'd always wanted to take part. i was determined to finish in at least third place so i did my best. >> and he said he hopes the luck
