the opposition strategy? the daily street protests? >> the opposition leaders alieve that there has to be multipronged approach to forcing mr. maduro to hold elections. street pressure is one of them and they also believe and stronger -- negotiations with government officials, military officers and judges. as we speak, an opposition leader is meeting with the colombian bpr president santosa very important country for venezuela. strong condemnations from the secretary-general of oas today about the deaths in protest yesterday from other governments around the region. the pressure on maduro is buil ding but can the opposition maintain this presursure in the face of exhaustion and

deal brokered by president obama. concern remains that the agreement has failed to presenvt iran from becoming a nuclear state. donald trump threatened to tear up the deal which restricts iran's nuclear program. administration has left open the possibility of retaining the agreement. i'm joined from washington, d.c., by a research director at the national-iranian -american council. during his campaign, trump called this the worst deal ever negotiated. but iwat was a deal negotiated above political party lines. in dangernk trump is of reducing one of the most important nuclear nonproliferation agreements to national party politics? >> i think that's exactly what happened.

american presidents are only as smart as the people that he or she surround themselves with. majority of national security official surrounding donald trump have long track records of opposing diplomacy with iran and opposing the iran nuclear deal. this should not come as a surprise, but it is a deal. the alternative to the deal is military confrontation that nobody wants. belle: it's quite normal for incoming administrations to review policies. obama did the same for the iran policy in 2009. how is this different? >> i was at the state department in 2009. i was there for that review. but that was a review of iran policy broadly conceived. the trump administration said they are specifically reviewing deal, which makes no practical sense. everybody who put together the the vast majority,

are career government officials. they were not obama political appointees. the same people that would be doing it for trump did it for obama. the difference is that trump ha people surrounding him in thes white house that have never supported the deal fro mthe beginning until now. belle: trump himself admits that iran has been of holding as part agreement. that makes it hard for him to launch an attack on the deal. >> you are right that to point out that it does. i do think there is a certain degree of seven is in this white house where they know they do not want to walk away from the deal or kill it outright. then it may slit look like the problem is in washington. so, instead, there is probably going to be a short to medium-term compliance on america -- while trying to push regionally. iran

make things more difficult from the sanctions related front. and goad the iranians. belle: can you elaborate on that? what sort of measures might we see from the u.s. to push iran into breaking the deal first? >> the most likely scenario is that the united states has full control over determining what compliance means over aspect of this nuclear deal. that language is written into the jcpoa. if they have a more strict interpretation than the obama administration did, they can turn this crews on -- the screws on iran. the other way they can do it is congressional legislation out of the senate proposing to recession -- resanction iran. being ont introduced under terrorism and human rights. that is written into the deal is a violation. if trump does not veto those sanctions, america would violate the deal. >> great to have your analysis on this.

candidates would not take part in another 11 part open debate. and preferred a different format. but three days away from the first round of the elections, i expect that the tv platform also thought some of the vital aspects of this election debate must equally be for the public to be able to take away a real message from each of the candidates. thee: france deux, who are organizers of the debate, they say tonight show is not about political spectacle. but more about the nitty-gritty of policy. that doesn't stop this from being a last-minute opportunity for each of the candidates to try and wow viewers at home. and also, from the press from identifying a winner. what effect do you think this might have on the three days before the polls open in france? aarti: well, if we look at the polls as they currently stand, we have four candidates who are
