global ecoconomy. in the face of this economic situation n that is unprecedentd in modern history, we, the president, and the prime minister, immediately took stock of the crisis. >> it is an age-old story about demand and supply. and many are asasking about howo restart economies amid the covid-19 outbreak to drive demand so that oil that is still being pumped can actually have enough places to go. brent: the number of protests against coronavirus quarantine measures, those protests continue to grow. around the world, demonstrators are voicing their anger over lockdown measures. in the united states, anti-lockdown demonstrations, which started last week, continue, such as these today in raleigh, north carolina. on monday, protesters, including some carrying guns, gathered in harrisburg, pennsylvania, demanding the state reopened

businesses. similar protests have been held across the country. loud protests. for more now, i am joined by my colleague. these protests, they seem to be about a lot more than just this virus. >> yes. they are attracting a very mixed bag of discontent people. many of them are worried about their jobs and businesses. but among some of the signs we see being waived are far right groups. we see conservative religious causes and conspiracy theorists. this movement is now being likened to the tea party, which was the antiestablishment movement that came before donald trump. donald trump has actually been quite supportive of this movement, t too, mostly becauset is taking aim at democratic state governors who are the ones implementing the quarantine measures. trump has tweeted out that people should "liberate" the states where this is taking place. as you can see, some of these protesters are wearing masks. some are not.
3:03 pm
they are certainly not keeping their distance. that has led some to speculate that these protests could actually be the cause of a new wave of coronavirus infections that might even necessitate the elongation of the very quarantines they are protesting against. brent: it is amazing. we understand that facebook says it is going to step in and it will not promote these protests, right? >> riep. facebook -- right. facebook's policy is to avoid spreading harm. it has already taken down information relating to upcoming demonstrations that violate state rules, including in nebraska, california, and new jersey. facebook says it is doing so proactively. it has not been asked to do this. but that has angered some people, including donald trump, junior, hope out a tweet that we can have a look out now -- look at now. he says, why is facebook collaborating to quash people's? this is a chilling -- people's free speech?

he is not alone. the american civil liberties union, which is no trump fan club, says there needs to be a place for people to be able to protest against governments's reactions to this pandemic. of course, you can imagine how it would get complicated because, what happens in a country that is an autocratic country when protests arise there? whose side is facebook going to take? brent: good point. you could argue that these protests take place if people were honoring social distancing, which they are not. we have seen similar protests in other countries. is facebook blocking information about those as well? >> facebook says the policy is global and it will take down information about any event deemed to breach the coronavirus lockdown restrictions by governments in those countries. just to name a few, we are seeing in russia, chile, niger, and even here in germany. at the weekend, we saw demonstrations.

again, a mixed bag of conspiracy theorists and pro-speech activists. that was shut down by police because it was deemed to be illegal. however, it is complicated here because there is a court in germany that ruled government cannot issue a blanket ban against anti-lockdown demonstrations. so again, facebook will have to decide whose authority to take their. -- there. these issues will only continue to grow as people become angry as they have to stay home without income and work. brent: as always, thank you. now for the virus and the journalists, the media watchdog reporters without borders is warning that the coronavirus pandemic could threaten press freedom around the globe. it comes as the group publishes its annual press freedom index, a list of countries ranked according to how freely their media are allowed to operate. throughout the day, we have been speaking to journalists from around the world to find out about the situation in their countries. here is a look at that

ranking and how countries are faring. >> at the bottom of the table are turkmenistan and north korea. reporters without borders classify the lack of press freedom in those countries is very serious. sudan i is also in that catateg. last year's mass protests that led to the ousting of president omar al-bashir resulted in stronger democratic structures and reduced restrictions for journalists. as a result, the country ranks 16 points higher on the index the last year. countries that made similar improvements include malaysia and ethiopia. while poor ratings are given to the west african state that fell 17 places. and haiti, down 21. the caribbean nation is struggling with an ongoing political crisis and violent protests. in the past year, journalists there were repeatedly attacked. one was killed.
3:07 pm
the united states ranks at 40 fifth place this year after two years of decline -- 45th place this year after two years of decline. but reporters without borders cites the u.s. as worrying with hate against journalists from elected politicians, with physical and verbal attacks against reporters frequent. germany ranks in 11th place, also up two places from last year. the main reason for this is a decline in the numbers of attacks against journalists. but reporters without borders say they are still concerned for the protection of journalistic sources. the countries ranking highest remain in scandinavia. denmark, finland, and norway. brent: question for you. do you wear a face mask when you go outside? more german states are making face coverings compulsory for public activities and the demand for masks is soaring.
3:08 pm
many companies, both big and small, are now producing fabric face masks, ones you can wash and reuse everyday. >> repurposing skills for shifting demand. this children's clothing shop in berlin has switched fashion for face masks. and it is proving good for business, as more german states make face coverings mandatory. the orders have been flooding in. >> at the moment, it is our core business. and i assume we will keep producing masks for a while. we have prepared for that by ordering more materials and a wide range of fabrics. >> as well as private households, the shop now supplies physiotherapists, traders, and some medical staff such as midwives. but this small enterprise is struggling to keep up with demand. >> we currently have a delivery time of 20 working days, which

is of course quite long. so we are trying to find individual solutions. >> and sales show no sign of slowing down. with more german cities and states expected to follow suit in the coming days. brent: today is holocaust remembrance day in israel. today, all across the country, israelis honor the memories of the 6 million jews who were murdered by the nazis. as they do every year, people stood in silence as simon's ring out in towns and cities. many streets were relatively empty because of israel's coronavirus lockdown. ceremonies are taking place in other countries as well. they have moved online, including what is known as the march of life between former concentration camps in poland. israel's central holocaust
