3:51 pm
most viral examples i've come across which is this one. claims to show a permanent signature india left on the moon's surface saying india's national emblem, these four lines there, was imprinted on the moon's surface by the rover's tires and according to what they're saying, because of the atmosphere on the foon they will stay there forever. mark: how did you manage to work out that this wasn't a genuine piece of space footage. >> the isra, india's space research organization, they've share nod trace of the image on any of their social platforms and they were pretty up to date with keeping the people informed. in fact all of their visuals from the moon surface included neither imprints nor emblems of any kind. however the first clue for us was really to take a cleas -- closer look at the image, hidden in the image itself.
3:52 pm
in this corner you can see a watermark and a name. when i was searching for this name on social networks i came across a twitter post by someone of the same name posting that same photo in response to the official ones shared by the isra. that was interesting as well. this was on the day of the mission itself. and of course when i managed to find his instagram pro pro file he confirmed that this was in fact -- this was in fact and artwork he h had created and he also encouraged people to stop forwarding it on claiming that it was something legitimate by the isra. he did in fact reiterate as well he had created this purely out of excitement as a space enthusiast to be shared for the countdown. in fact, for the space mission which of course he did share on his story as well. mark: you mentioned other examples of misinformation also. making the orbit, you might say.

various footage from different space missions. tell us more. >> that is correct. i found multiple examples of out of context space footage being presented as the mission. one example is one. this one had over 109,000 views on this facebook reel itself. it is animated footage clairming to be the lander and parts of the mission. it reads today india will make history. now there's also another example of n video form this one was shared on twitter this one claims to be from nasa. and as you can see in the tweet there, claims that nasa's footage is part of the deep space network. in this video it's again animation of a landing on the moon's surface. however in this one we can actually hear a voice in the background. toward the end of the video. where we can hear an american accent saying, houston,

tranquility base here. the eagle has landed. now reverse image search from both of these videos confirmed to me that they were being presented extremely out of context in. fact that first video that we saw when i put that into a video reverse image search, it gave me several results pertaining to jeff bezos but also interestingly something called blue origin and that led me to their home page where it is confirmed that bezos owns a company called blue origin which makes a series of lunar landers and in fact on the blue origin official youtube channel very quickly i was able to find this video posted from several years ago. so not this mission. unsurprisingly. of that same exact footage we saw in that first video. pertaining to the one created allegedly by nasa obviously we have that american accent saying the eagle has landed. houston.
3:55 pm
keyword search, easy to find. nasa's official website we have a full transcript of that same audio and the audio file itself. it is of course neil armstrong speaking from apollo 11 to houston, not recent and nothing to do with india. in termings of those images that we saw there. that's again a reverse video search was able to lead me here. this is a -- the same video that we saw recreated there. this was posted by an art account that pests graphic animations. posted a few years ago now. not recent. and it posts animations of space missions and recreations using computer grafgs. both of these examples are completely out of context. previous lunar missions. they have been flipped to be presented again, several examples of misinformation being shared on these accounts.
