the student was a non-traditional student enrolled in a nearby charter school. had the system properly flagged the student, the school would've immediately requested an undue hardship waiver. i'm going to ask principal michael aronson a few questions. could you briefly tell us what kind of an impact this season's football team's successhas had on the school and the community in general? aronson: pahokee is a small rural town of about 6,000 people that support the high school football program with their heart and soul. many of our student athletes depend on the success and publicity of the football program to buoy their chances for a college education. many are the first in their families to attend college, and the kids and coaches did everything they were supposed to do on and off the field-- excuse me-- to secure the state championship and have been devastated by this data entry error. - i'm going to ask the student's mother now a few questions. are there any factors,

such as a serious illness in your family, that affected your son's ability to do well in high school? - yes, on january 1 of 2014, his father had a massive stroke. every other day, i had to take my kids to the hospital because they were saying that his daddy wasn't going to make it. (crying) - i know this is very difficult. you don't have to go into the full details, but briefly describe how it impacted your family. - (crying): it tore my family up. i'm sorry. - do you think that your illnesses and your husband's illness affected your son's ability to do well at school? - it messed up all of us. - i'm gonna ask the student a few questions. did you play any high school sports before this year? - no, ma'am. - okay. why did you want to play this year? - to make my family happy.

- were you aware that you were breaking any rules? - no, ma'am. - questions or comments from the committee. - i have a hard time with the fact that, especially a student that's coming from a non-traditional school to play, there should be either more oversight and review prior to allowing the student to play, and it seems like that failed here. as a result of that, i make a motion not to approve the appeal. - all in favor of the motion to deny the request indicate by raising your hands. - the infractions committee has voted to deny your request for a waiver of fhsaa regulations.
