extent of the devastation. the eastern coastal city inundated by floodwaters after dams collapsed. whole neighborhoods were swept out to sea. >> unfortunately half the population, maybe 90%, drowned my on's house as well as my other on house and my cousins house, it is genocide. >> streets are covered with mud and rubble. damaged cars. the coastline. survivors are digging through the debris and searching for dead bodies. >> we are burying bodies. the number of victims that arrived yesterday at the neighboring hospital is estimated to be 1000 dead people including women, children, men and elderly. >> there is no time to mourn and many residents are in shock.

they say it is like doomsday. >> a disaster in every sense of the word, this is tragic. >> it was not the only city badly affected by flooding. in a nearby city, witnesses show the damage caused to the hospital. patients had to be evacuated as staff continue to try to mop up all of the water left behind by the storm. >> meanwhile authorities are struggling to get aid to the devastated area after waters rushed away most access to roads. caroline brings us the latest on these efforts. >> another team of rescue workers prepared to take off her libya on wednesday. they are sending amphibious vehicles to help with rescue operations. from this weekend's disastrous

flooding. a number of other countries have sent rescue and aid including egypt, algeria and tunisia as well as rants, turkey -- france, turkey and palestinian territories. >> it's not easy since water has flooded large areas of libya. there are thousands of libyans and palestinians trapped underwater. >> turkish rescue workers were hard at work on wednesday searching through water and debris. with many roads washed away by the floods the authorities are struggling to get aid to areas that needed the most. in the town worst hit, many residents say more data is needed. >> states alone cannot handle this, resources are limited. many have come to help with what they can but we need help from organizations like the united nations to provide us with resources. the world health organization should send aid.

donations. take a listen to this report. >> waiting for aid in the high atlas mountains. the situation on the ground is dire, residents are in need of food, shelter, clothing after having lost everything. >> we suffered and we are sad. we have no food, nowhere to sleep. >> footage of this village shows the extent of the damage caused by saturday's earthquake. very few structures remain standing. many survivors remain traumatized by their ordeal. >> those four hours, i don't want to think about them. it will make me cry. there was no oxygen, just darkness, no light. i really do not want to remember that. >> the more remote areas remain cut off from outside help. >> there are no roads, we use

animals to carry our belongings to the camp by the river. >> the moroccan army is leading relief efforts with assistance from age groups but given the scale of the disaster then needs are immense. makeshift field hospitals have been set up in some areas to treat the injured. volunteers have been arranging collections of goods and organizing deliveries to assist survivors. the government has given permission for international help from just four countries, spain, u.k., u.a.e. and qatar and they have been assisting rescue team searching through the rubble hoping to find survivors. >> russia has north korea's full unconditional support, that is what kim jong-il who vowed on wednesday after a meeting with vladimir putin in russia's far east. the latest alignment has evoked

warnings from the west that says the summit could be used to strike a deal in which korea supplies moscow to continue its incurred -- invasion of ukraine. to paint a picture of what happened on wednesday i'm joined by the senior researcher at the transfer program from stockholm. in for joining us. obviously there are concerns from the west simon. how real are they that arms could be supplied to moscow? >> it's not unrealistic. we see allegations that there is an arms deal in the making. the same allegations were made a year ago and we did not see any evidence. now we see kim jong-il and in russia. russia is in desperate need of ammunition for artillery. north korea has a lot of that in stock. it fits, russians can use it.

they get the ammunition from north korea. it would be illegal as there is an embargo and sanctions on north korea which prohibit the export from north korea of weapons but also the import from other states of weapons. >> you mention those sanctions. what could we anticipate from the west or united states if the deal goes through? >> if the deal would go through there really is not much you can do within the u.s. sanctions regime. both countries will just ignore it, that's it. but there will be repercussions. one that i would expect is more support, more material support for ukraine from the countries who already give it an pressure on some countries including south korea, japan, to provide support. that can out balance what russia would get from north korea. i expect that there will be more

sanctions, additional sanctions on russia from the u.s., eu and like-minded states. to punish a breach of international law. >> on the flipside north korea, we hear they might be supplying weapons but it is in return for access to russian technology. how likely is it that vladimir putin would exceed to this request from north korea? how far is he willing to take this alliance? >> it is totally unclear. north korea has been under sanctions for years, its military apparatus is based on conventional weapons, things that are 30 or 40 years old technology. anything they can get from russia would be useful. but also oil or food from russia, anything would be useful

but if russia wants to go as far as supplying weapons, if you buy weapons from north korea they can supply military technology. they've already broken the sanctions one way. >> on the sidelines is the elephant in the room, china. what does beijing think about a meeting like this? >> i think they are worried because north korea is seen by china as something that belongs to their influence and now the russians are there. the chinese are not interested in countries that supply weapons to russia. they don't say russia is doing wrong in ukraine but they don't really like the idea that russia is being supplied with weapons, that continue the war in ukraine. for the chinese it would be best if the war goes away as quick as

possible. the chinese have the additional problem that they like russia, how russia reacts to the u.s. as a counterbalance. but the chinese are not economically dependent on russia. the west is their market. that may have repercussions for access to the markets where your economy is based on. >> thank you for your views. that is simone, senior researcher in stockholm, sweden. moscow destroyed three ukrainian at drone boats in the black sea on wednesday, a further sign of increased attacks in ukrainian waters since russia pulled out of that grain deal which ensures safe passage for cargo ships. on wednesday a ukrainian attack on a shipyard wounded 24 people

in russian and next crimea. the attack which was one of the biggest in weeks took place in a port city used as a base by russia's black sea fleet. further afield it was a busy day in brussels. european commission president had her fourth state of the union speech in strasbourg. among the announcements was an anti-subsidy investigation into chinese electric vehicles as well as a european wind power package, green energy initiatives, tackling labor shortages, artificial intelligence issues and new focus on aid to ukraine in the face of the russian invasion, take a listen. >> we will be at ukraine's side every step of the way for as long as it takes. since the start of the war, 4

iphone 15. apple has contested this dispute and the findings that the iphone admits too much electromagnetic radiation. it says the phone was certified by multiple international bodies as compliant with global standards. the agency said the absorption rate absorbed by the human body from a single device exceeded the legal limit. hit warned that if apple does not fix the problem there would be a recall of iphone twelves across france. so they've been worried about it. when expert says health risks are limited. >> quite simply phones admit nonionizing waves which are harmless to the human body. there is a power behind it and this power has a threshold in terms of prevention. it's normal to set thresholds.

despite looming industrial action. leaders of the united union are considering targeted strikes but a small number of factories run by each of the automakers, if they cannot reach contract agreements by the thursday night deadline. on wednesday the president of the united states got involved, saying he wants both sides to work around the clock in order to reach an agreement. the union and automakers appear to be far apart on wages and benefits. they mean is seeking a 40% wage hike, the number that the automakers are far from match ing. the 32 hour week for 40 hours of pay. that has been ruled out by ford's ceo. >> we will see. were fighting for the future of automotive manufacturing in our country, but we will find a way forward. >> if a strike was to take place

it's time for truth or fake, our daily fact checking segment. i'm joined by catalina in today's edition. the flood in libya, what are the fake images circulating online? >> in the hours following the floods many images started circulating online in order to illustrate the extent of the damage. here are the ones we have identified as fake. this post that has reached over 1.2 million views. with the caption that reads thinking of libyan brothers currently hit by hurricane daniel. we've seen the same videos shared on tiktok as well with the text or example that reads impressive tornado in libya. where indeed we can see a tornado in the background. let's look at the video being shared online, where we do see this impressive tornado as

lightning strikes a tornado that allegedly formed in the libyan coastline. >> now there is another video as far as i am aware making the rounds. we see the exact moment that the flood does hit. is this true or fake? >> as you can imagine, this video has nothing to do with the current situation in libya. it actually shows images from hurricane matthew when it hit the united states in 2016. here is the same strip center that we found on google maps, the same one that we can see in the viral claims online. the center located in jacksonville, florida. you can find the original video posted by tornado trackers on their youtube account posted in 2017 as they created a compilation of the most

impressive storm videos and include the one that we saw with the fake claims. there's one thing missing in the background that is the tornado that we see in the fake claims. tornado trackers explained that this week on twitter that this tornado was a computer generated image that was placed into real footage from hurricane matthew in 2016. no hurricane or tornado was observed during the floods in libya. >> thank you so much. i'm curious quickly the first video, where did it come from? >> the first video was from hurricane matthew in 2016. now are going to go to a second video where users claim to show the exact moment floods hit the

libyan coastline where we see this massive stream of water submerging a bridge as vehicles move away from the disaster and contrary to these claims, they claim floods hit in libya, this video has nothing to do with the current situation in libya according to this youtube account that posted the video back in april 2016. these were floods that took place in a city located in saudi arabia near the border with yemen. we found the same video on facebook in 2016 where they posted local news reporting on the massive torrents that blocked roads and pedestrians at the time in 2016.
