>> live from paris world news. these are the headlines. caught between a rock and a hard place the u.s. house speaker faces a bid to kick him out from far right trump supporters in the republican party and no move from the democrats to save him. he is calling a vote to resolve the situation. we have the context and allows us -- analysis coming up, from the university of george washington, a professor will be joining us shortly. haiti has a u.n. peacekeeping
3:31 pm
force, response to the rising crime including murder, rape, and drugs, it will be made up of several nationalities. france will continue to support our media. the message of the french media confirmed a military aid package. russia's support is expected to evaporate now. this is life from paris. -- live from paris. thank you very much for being with us. caught between a rock and a hard place politically speaking, kevin mccarthy says he is calling a vote on his future as house speaker in the face of a far right move to oust him. mccarthy's -- mccarthy is
3:32 pm
considered centrist, but democrats are not willing to be part of his cause. let's bring in the director of the political management program at george washington university to get analysis on the story, which is essential what is happening to u.s. politics. where does this challenge to mccarthy come from, politically speaking? >> it is great to be with you. thanks for having me on again. this challenge comes from matt gaetz who is a junior house member from florida. some would say pretty ambitious himself, likes to have the spotlight, even had some money redirected to pay for a tv studio in his parents house. but he's representing a group that gave mccarthy the speakership. they were the holdouts what he was the one who was voted as speaker, earlier this year. what they really wanted from him, they wanted some strict
3:33 pm
cuts in u.s. government spending. they don't feel like they got that when mccarthy came back from his negotiations with joe biden earlier this year. >> what do you think these dissenters led by mr. gaetz are seeking to change? >> they want something -- someone they can rely on in the speakership. they don't think that mccarthy has been honest with them and has not gotten out of joe biden, the type of cuts they would want. that is primarily what they're talking about. they want to hear more about the border. this is another issue, the issue fentanyl, and the issue of border security is really important for them. mccarthy has said he would attach that to any supplemental funding bill for ukraine. but, other than that, this is mostly about trust and the fact that they don't trust the speaker. >> do you think they have a case? it depends where one stands politically. they say they don't trust mccarthy, they say they need
3:34 pm
someone they can trust. do they have a strong position? >> well, they have a position and the democrats have a position. when the democrats got together in caucused this morning -- and caucused this morning they said they would refuse to support mccarthy because they don't trust him, if they thought they could trust him then they would help save a speakership. but they have told everyone repeatedly that they thought they were going to get deals out of mccarthy that he reneged on and they don't think he is a trusted partner. they are willing to abandon ship on him too. >> between a heart -- rock and a hard place. how did mccarthy end up in the situation? >> this is hubris. mccarthy wanted that speakership so bad, he tried to get it in 2015. he finally succeeded in getting it. but the trade-off was to allow anyone member of the house to call for a motion to vacate.
3:35 pm
the fact of the matter is he can only afford to lose four votes from his own party without having to get democrats to come over. he got democrats to come over on the provisional spending bill passed late at night on saturday that funds the government for another six weeks. that angered some republicans. now they called this motion to vacate. he gave them the tool to take away what he wanted so badly. >> that motion to vacate. we are watching for developments. who do you think, if this goes through, as matt gaetz and his fellow travelers want it to happen, if this goes through and mccarthy is pushed out who will replace him? >> this is really the question. next would have been steve police, but he is having health issues. don is next on the list what he has failed to do his job in getting the votes for different pieces of legislation. i don't think the caucus trust him. down the list we have elise who
3:36 pm
has only recently become a member of house leadership. i don't know if enough republicans would trust her either. what we will see happen is a number of different people all floated on ballots -- we will probably see mccarthy's name put back on their by his supporters as well. it could go on for several days like it did in january. >> never a dull moment. thank you very much for joining us. we appreciate your clear analysis. director of the political managing program at george washington university, thank you so very much indeed. well, developments on the situation regarding mccarthy's tenure as the house speaker, expected to come to an end in the coming hours. next, hunter biden has ended a not guilty plea this tuesday to three firearms charges. the son of joe biden could face

3:43 pm
siege for a year before the final attack two weeks ago. >> for a lot of armenians, especially people who had to flee, people who are now refugees in armenia, the visit of the prime minister came a little too late. a lot of people say after nine months of blockade and after already tens of thousands of people who had to flee their homes and are now here, they think it is a bit late. they still appreciate that you came here because there is a refugee crisis in armenia, with tons of people who have no housing, jobs, children who need to go to school. there is a need for humanitarian aid. with the announcement that the prime minister made over 12 million euros of humanitarian aid coming in, it was appreciated. but some still say it is a bit too late. >> vaccination against the eighth -- hpv virus has been rolled out. pupils in middle schools, most
