shelled from the gaza strip. it's reported to be under preparation. 300,000 israeli services have been called up. as israel pounds the enclave from the air the hamas threatened to execute hostages. they most likely spread out, to use human shields there are 150 being held in gaza. most are women. their fate hangs in the balance with every israeli airstrike. we will be joining our correspondent who is in jerusalem, for the very latest throughout the program. this is life from paris. -- live from paris. ♪ thank you very much for being with us. the shock of the horrific discovery of the slaughter of
3:32 pm
families in kibbutz has raised the tension across the middle east, as we go to air. the united nations says there are elements of war crimes on both sides of the conflict. this exchange of fire thought today between israel and hamas in gaza. israel is lebanon. the international community expresses its hopes for a resolution for the conflict that broke out on saturday morning with the hamas incursion. the death toll is at least 900 palestinians dead, which includes 260 children and 230 women, 4600 wounded. these figures are from the gaza health ministry services. on the israeli side, over 1000 dead, 2400 wounded. as you can imagine, families are being torn apart. the grand war appears to be the next move, there are fears that more than 150 israeli hostages held in the gaza strip, after being kidnapped over the weekend.
3:33 pm
in gaza people are being shelled, but also they are without food, water and free movement because of the siege on the enclave, imposed by israel. the rapid crossing to egypt is not a realistic exit for the 2.3 million people. we've been examining this issues -- these issues from the program. our first report deals with what could be the most horrific act in this war so far, international reporters were escorted to kibbutz where hamas mounted attack of shocking brutality. detailed by the israeli military. families were killed by the hamas gunmen. among the dead, children, that is reported, may have been the headed. hundreds of debtor still on the streets. the reporters learned of the horror of kibbutz. here, a reporter with this. reporter: the population of 1000
3:34 pm
was surrounded by high fences and barbed wire when it was attacked by how mass militants -- hamas militants. after fighting off gunmen and working through traps, israeli troops entered the kibbutz, to find chilling scenes of a ghost village and a massacre site. foreign press to access the settlement described seeing burned down houses and torched cars with a heavy stench of death and over 100 bodies, men, women and babies. surveillance cameras recorded the moment when heavily armed man ran into the kibbutz. videos posted by the intruders themselves shall militants approaching -- show militants approaching homes and shooting people. some residents managed to escape the shelters. >> in the shelter we did not know what was going on. you can only listening to shouting in arabic's saying
3:35 pm
god's grace, kill the jews. they try to open the door. my husband and three sons did not let go of the door handle to not let them in. reporter: within hours the gunmen killed several tens of people. in one case, putting 50 residents into a living room and executing them on the spot. in this camera footage, hamas militants are rummaging through belongings before taking their car and driving off. survivors of the massacre said hundreds of residents were taken as hostages back to gaza. >> we are living through a tragedy similar to that of september 2001, with scenes reminiscent of the second world war. reporter: soldiers searched from house to house to retrieve the bodies of victims as gunfire and explosions continued to be heard in the distance. >> let's get some reaction of the very latest from our correspondent in jerusalem, who has been covering all the events since it began on saturday morning. here's the story at the kibbutz.
3:36 pm
it's the most shocking so far. reporter: it is interesting. it's not the only one. there is a kibbutz down the road, where there is also 108 bodies that were removed from their, and similar stories told. the shock for israelis that this could happen on an ordinary saturday morning to ordinary farmers, it's a farming community, who happen to live near the gaza strip. but, does that mean that you can expect this to happen to you? i was listening to an interview. it's a jewish paramedical organization. they go and pick up body parts when they are separated, so they can be very together. this man said he attended many suicide it -- suicide bombings. he had been in new york on 9/11. they had to get him out of the rubble.
3:37 pm
he said he had never seen anything like this. i think perhaps that is an illusion to the reports they may have -- there may have been some children beheaded that come from the israeli military. it gives you a feeling for the rising tension here. the horror of ordinary israelis, and the ferocity of the military response. we heard tonight from israel's defense minister. he was speaking to soldiers down at the gaza border. he said to the, we have secured this area, that is not entirely true, that is in the process. they have firefights with 10 gaza militants were still in the area today. let's go back to one side. he said, we secured the area, i am removing all restraints, we can leave defense and go on to offense. you can see that the two things feed into each other.
3:38 pm
the sites that they are seeing in gaza and other kibbutz, and other houses, and the music festival in the south, and the ferocity of israel's military response in the gaza strip. >> 260 dead. it's really the scale of this that is growing and growing. you talk about changing to offense, ground evasion is what some observers are speaking about. 300,000 have been called up. what is the sense you're getting about that? reporter: two things i would say. there is a political discussion going on at the same time about israel forming a government of national unity. the reason you want that is in order to have the whole nation unified behind you when you prosecute a war. the huge military call up, now more than 300,000 men called up in a short space in time, israel
3:39 pm
has never done anything that speedy in its history. this government of national news which is slowly coming together i believe. those indicate to me that even though the politicians have not said openly they will be -- there will be a ground war, it is becoming more likely at any rate. those are the signs. the other thing is i don't believe you would call up 300,000 men in order to fight just in gaza. there is obviously anticipation or fear that this would be a multi-front battle. there would be a fight with lebanon as well in the north, webb seen some activity on the border was -- who have seen some activity on the border with libya. who knows what will happen on the west bank. that is part of the reason why israel has decided to call up, to mobilize so many israeli soldiers. reporter: we will be watching that front with syria, where there has been some kind of firing activity as you were just
3:40 pm
saying. if you are in gaza i imagine, it already feels like a ground operation or a full-scale war is on the way because of the scale of israel's airstrikes. what is your understanding of the situation? many people will be hit many people will lose their lives. reporter: many people are hit, and many are losing their lives. i have never seen destruction on such a level in gaza in short -- in a short space of time. they interpret that probably. anywhere where hamas does business, or where they live, that is in israeli terms now, a legitimate target. we see an area of gaza, i saw images from their tonight. it's a wealthy area. it was one of the few wealthy areas, upscale areas in gaza. it is like a hole. in the ground. so, not only more than 200,000
3:41 pm
people now displaced, and looking for somewhere to stay, the shelters are crowded, water is scarce. water will only become more scarce because of what we are seeing in terms of sealing the border shut. all of this together makes life for ordinary people in gaza literally unbearable. let's not forget that amongst those ordinary people are now some 150 israelis carted off to be with them who will be enduring what the gazans have dealt with. >> what happens to those hostages is one of the big questions. possibility prop that they could be used as human shields. there is the threat from hamas to kill a hostage each time there is an on pre-warned strike carried out by israel. this is something that must be on the minds of so many in israel. >> it is huge. it's apparent they are bargaining chips, there is
3:42 pm
another statement like that one, we will kill them or we will force them to make hostage videos. if you are relatives of these people, thinking about them all the time, terrified, not sure how they are being treated, if you are father of those children. i was listening to an interview with one man whose children, aged four a to are in gaza -- four and two are in gaza. in a plea he said, take me. another thing that is horrifying for these relatives is the fact that it seems that the policy that is being -- has been articulated -- it has not been articulated by politicians but by officials is that they will not deal with the issue until after this event, this war, whatever we call it now, is over. that is also on people's mind. >> thank you very much for bringing yourself up-to-date, and giving us the analysis that we value so dearly on every story.
3:43 pm
especially this evening, of this war, as it has been declared by netanyahu against hamas. thank you very much indeed. let's take on the points that was made and bring in the medical charity organization. thank you for being here. we appreciate your presence. i imagine, first and foremost on your mind, is that humanitarian situation as it is unfolding in the gaza strip. >> definitely. i would say also our first -- our concern would be staff. in the gaza strip we have around 20 colleagues over there that are stuck in the gaza strip and under siege. >> what are they able to do with the shortage of supplies, the amount of people that need help?
3:44 pm
they must be really under a massive amount of pressure right now, as well as fearing for their lives. >> definitely. they are currently in shelters for most of them. some of them have already lost their house, by the way. it's extremely difficult to move clearly. it's difficult to move 30 meters away, just drinkable water. it's extremely hard to put in place some response that humanitarian response right now -- and some humanitarian response right now. we're working on donations, emergency materials. >> trauma kids. -- kits. we were talking about the effect of the siege, the eu said it is a total siege, that is one group speaking out against that. from your perspective, this is not taking sides but you are there to help people. if you can't get supplies in you can't tell people. i would imagine you would be against the siege. >> i agree more -- cannot agree
3:45 pm
more. it is against the geneva conventions, civilians have to be protected. they must have access to health care services. the basic needs, infrastructures, staff, they have to be protected as well. they are targeted right now. this is clearly against international humanitarian law. >> have you been able to speak to your people? have they given you a sense of the difficulties? >> we are. we are in constant communication. though it is getting most difficult. internet connection is getting worse, hour-by-hour. however, we are managing to have them on the phone at least once or twice a day. it's extremely worrying for me. >> fear about the situation right now, fears about how your people are coping with their own trauma, but the trauma that they're witnessing on the
3:46 pm
day-to-day basis too. and perhaps the possibility of a ground invasion, which must clearly be a major concern for you, for your people, and for the people who will be hurt on the gaza side of things. >> exactly. this is why we definitely need international aid to continue, to be able to help. we also need the international community to ask and demand the respect of international humanitarian law. civilians have to be able to get out and to get out of the gaza strip. >> that is impossible because of the siege, isn't it? >> exactly. >> people in gaza should flee, but you cannot flee if you can't get out or cross the border. >> neither from the north or the south. in any case, you need court a nation, you need specific access, it is hardly granted. it's always difficult to get out
3:47 pm
of the gaza strip. now now -- now it is impossible. >> without the war it seems like an inhuman situation. with the war, with what has happened, you can talk about hamas did that and provoked to that, but the basics, the people in need, civilians who are maybe not involved in this at all, but they're the ones who need the help, are you confident that your people on the ground can do the job that they want to do? that they can continue doing that job? or is it becoming is to -- impossible situation? >> it will depend in the coming days. i'm not saying i am very optimistic, but if the bombing is stopping, again we are able to do something to support ambulances, primary health care, this is possible. people have the motivation to do that. some of them have been working for many years were other

organizations, they are willing -- or other organizations, they are willing to do that. we need to help them do their jobs and save the lives of civilians. >> thank you for coming again and sharing your colleague's experiences and the organization you work for. thank you so much for being with us. i hope your colleagues are safe and continue to be safe in the gaza strip. thank you very much for joining us. next reports of rocket fire exchanged over the border from southern lebanon to northern israel, adding to speculation of a full-scale second front possibly opening up in this war. our correspondent is in lebanon for france 24. he joins us now. good evening to you, what is the latest you can tell us of where you are? >> i am based in southern lebanon. we had a lot of incoming updates
3:49 pm
all over the border. we're going to shed the light on the attack, the rocket attack launched from southern lebanon, it was claimed by hamas in lebanon a few hours ago and not by --, however despite that israel has retaliated and basis. it also attacked an israeli vehicle close to the lebanese border. we have a situation where they are trying to led itself. it is a clear message that up until now they have not taken a clear decision that it wants to get involved in the war. a lot of the action we are seeing on the border is a result of the islamic jihad, hamas, there is a number of palestinian refugees here which are basically armed as well.
3:50 pm
we have the situation right now where hezbollah has evolved every once in a while but the attacks are primarily being launched by palestinians. hezbollah is looking at the situation and politicians are calling on hezbollah not to get involved. it is another reason why the country cannot handle a war especially with the current economic situation and crisis. >> thank you very much. rawad taha there. thank you so very much for bringing us up-to-date. just to reiterate something that was said earlier on, reports of rocket fire are coming from syria to israel, suggesting a possible third front in the offing. the situation in gaza, the north, from southern lebanon, and on the possibility of something coming from syria. we're watching for developments on the three fronts. the fate of the hostages are

under 150, held by hamas in the gaza strip, they were kidnapped from their homes, rated by hamas over the weekend. they have threatened to start executions of hostages, every time israel carries an unannounced airstrike on the gaza strip. it is believed at least 13 french citizens are among the hostage citizens. we start with a 12-year-old snatched from the kibbutz, near the border. reporter: this 12-year-old is french israeli and is one of many who were taken at the start of the attack on saturday. he was in his home, a kibbutz near the gaza strip. he was abducted along with his family by hamas militants. his sister was taken away with her mother on one motorcycle, while he was taken on another. on their way to gaza, they run into in israeli take. >> the bike stopped and the bike

are in a war. it's not starting the war. who started the war was hamas. reporter: the family faces an agonizing wait. the 12-year-old is one of 13 french israelis reported missing. >> we are watching for any developments on the hostages being held. let's bring in the international reaction. joe biden says the u.s. has israel's back. antony blinken is set to visit tel aviv thursday. one spoke to the prime minister this last week than in the last two years. the eu was against stopping aid to the palestinian authority. qatar could yet be a possible mediator due to its access to hamas. vladimir putin says he is concerned over catastrophic increases in israel/gaza casualties.
3:54 pm
let's hear from joe biden, he spoke earlier in washington. pres. biden: yesterday i spoke with the leaders of france, italy, germany, the u.k., to discuss the developments with our european allies. this comes on top of days of study engagement with partners across the region. we're taking steps at home. the department of homeland security and the federal bureau of investigation are working closely with state and local law enforcement to identify and disrupt any domestic threat that could emerge in connection with these terrific attacks. >> joe biden saying that the u.s. has israel's back, but no u.s. soldiers will be sent to aid israel in this operation which everyone believes is imminent. 300,000 reservists called up. let's get reaction on the

european union side of things. it's in some ways a split over how it views what is going on, this condemnation. there is a sense that the aide should continue to the palestinian authority, that is the palestinian group based in the west bank, not the gaza strip. there will be a re-sharing of the aide sent out. we're talking about a figure that is almost 700 million euros of aid sent by the eu to the palestinian authority. reporter: two counts appeared to be forming. there are member states want to continue sending aid to palestine and those who want to suspend assistance. the meeting is to resolve the revisions there was confusion and u-turns following the hamas assault on israel. they took to social media to announce that payments will be
