gaza, there isthat is safe in gaza, all along the north and the south, bombardments, airstrikes, this has led to the tremendous numbers of children that have been killed. also children that are injured and need humanitarian goods in gaza. food, water, medicines, fuel so that hospitals can function. the desalination plants can function, they are warning out of water. we are allowed in because we need to find the children. we need to do the assessments and deliver the systems. all of this can only be possible if the fighting stops. civilians cannot reach safety. they cannot reach distribution points. humanitarians cannot deliver when there are shillings that are continuing. >> children make up half of gaza's population and that gives organizations like your own a lot to do.

why are there so many children? why is the young population so big? >> because it is a densely populated city, it is one of the most densely populated in the world. 1.1 million children living in the area, again, there is nowhere that is safe for them. to additionally we have seen family sizes are large particularly in conflict because there is a fear that the next generation will not survive. the rights of children and child mortality rates are astronomically high. the rights of women giving -- dying in childbirth or high. this is why it is critical that we must protect the children. the long-term mental health outcomes for the children are subject to the cycles of endless violence is astronomical. all of our research shows that increasing levels of depression, anxiety, of children feeling withdrawn and hopeless, not having any hope. they do not believe that there

is a future, they do not have a hope for the future. it is imperative that we protect the lives of all children and we give them the assistance that they need. we protect the hope and belief that there is a future for them. >> do you fear that the children that survived the horrors of this conflict will be prone to indoctrination? radicalization? eventually a perpetuation of this cycle of violence? >> children are resilient and they can recover up in order for them to recover, the triggers of what is happening has to be removed. the commerce have to be removed. -- the, must be removed. we have to give them what they need. every single conflict, the fighting must stop, there must be a durable and lasting peace and justice for all children and they must get the support and treatment that they need. this is how children rebuild their lives and fulfill their

and an ending. >> this was an event unlike anything in recent memory. >> it is a collective grief, something we do not see usually in israel. we have the terror attack and a soldier is dead but here, because of the massive numbers, we have a collective grief. it is also a strong feeling of community that they go through it together. >> going through it together, but each alone in their pain. >> there is not a family that did not lose someone. there is not a family here. all of the families lost someone. even we are a big family together. even i lost friends, and neighbors. everyone lost someone. >> the seventh of october was traumatic for all israelis.
