espinoza keeps quiet, especially about the fight that earned him 30 days here. it happened the night he was arrested. he said he doesn't remember a thing about it. >> i chased after a court officer. they hit and kicked one and spit on him. >> he came in severely drunk, drugs, something or other. under the influence of something when he came in. >> espinoza was arrested on larceny and shoplifting and was in court to enter a plea, but the behavior prevented that. instead he was taken to the segregation unit. fortunately for him, he wasn't changed for alleged abusive behavior and later pled not guilt to his original charges he blames his problems on his abuse of prescription drugs.

>> i felt when i was there, iter to my knee up. i had my knee reconstruct and i was on vicodin, percocet. i was doing heroin a little over 10 years. >> he said he supported his addiction by shoplifting and sell the items in the ethnic neighborhoods. >> i had ed hardy jeans. like a rack of them. i would go to the italians and puerto ricans for the clothes and the chinese for the electronics. you have watches. >> for convicted of his current charges, espinoza faces several years in state prison. >> sad to say, but maybe it's what i need. >> while espinoza's legal future is uncertain, his time is

>> 16 months ago, he was convicted of possession of a firearm and sentenced to two years at the house of correction. a separate jail facility for convicted inmates serving 2 1/2 years or less. due to multiple fights he spent 13 months in segregation. even under those restrictions, he was a significant disciplinary problem >> he has been involved in about 10 fights. a lot of fights he called to happen. a lot more behind the scenes >> i will be in the background and said bleep that. sometimes i like when people yell. i like it. i don't know. it's fun to me. i enjoy that. i like the commotion and stuff.

on a lieutenant police officer. they call me smiley because i'm always smiling. i'm a nice person. but don't get in my personal space. >> she proved her point a few days after arriving in jail. she got into a fight with another female inmate. >> she got a broken eye socket. i put her in the infirmary for eight days. >> the fight earned her a lengthy stay in the female segregation unit. she was released to general population a few weeks ago. despite her sometimes violent tendencies, she claims her numerous days in jail stem from addiction to cocaine and heroin. >> when i was with my kids, i

never did nothing. i was at stay at home mom and it was good. i started doing drugs. it was all downhill. >> she said she turned to prostitution to support her drug habit. two children ages 5 and 6 are in the custody of their father. >> i do write to them. i don't get any mail back and i don't get to talk to them on the phone. he won't let me talk to them on the phone from jail. >> despite the pay, she found room for loftner jail. particularly with her cellmate. >> the first night i came in, we laughed the entire night. rolling. it wasn't that funny. >> i was lapping the wall. i haven't laughed so hard in my lifelike this with me and her. >> archer is also struggling with addictions to heroin and cocaine. she is currently serving one year for prostitution.

>> i was street walking. i would go out there and jump in the car and get the money. usually i would rob the guys. take the money out of their wallet and that's how i know how to do it. you know what i mean? i'm grateful i'm not dead, but that's how i got my money. all you want to do is get another hit. you have to get more money to get more dope. your body is aching for it. i would love to get high. the consequences, look at the consequences. those were abscesses. when i shot coke, it turns to poison. you are in the hospital on antibiotics they look horrible, but she has to be thinking that could happen to her. i could save her from getting these scars. i have them. the thing is i'm alive and i can

still try to help her. don't get further into her addiction and try to control it now before it gets out of hand like i did. >> like she said about the scars, i think about that when i go into the bathroom and i look at my track marks, i just -- we are too pretty for that. we don't need all the marks and scars on our body and all the things i lost getting high. it's crazy. you have to get clean for yourself, not other people. >> daniel espinoza paid a price for drug addiction. high when he was arrested for shoplifting, he assaulted several deputies in the initial court appearance as a result, he spent his first 30 days in suffolk county in

segregation. now he is on his way to general population where he will have more privileges and time outside his cell. >> today i'm getting out of the roll. we will see what's going on. the new unit. we will see what's going to happen. >> daniel spent the last four months living and working in the jail's infirmary hoping good behavior would convince them to overlook his history and grand

him a history to general population. >> here got to a point where he had a cleaned the unit and he came a lot further than they were anticipating. >> they did get a transfer. not the one he wanted. he's back in the box. >> in segregation, i had a disagreement. you can't go here and here and here. he likes to get what he wants. he is manipulative. yesterday morning he had an incident with the juice was leaking and decided he didn't want to insert the juice. when he went into his cell and was not going to work the detail that day, he had a fit and said i'm not getting what i want.

>> i got aggravated and said i'm not doing the juice. why do the work. >> after the things, the sergeant asked what he was doing. i'm leaving one way or the other. they let it go later on the day, but he decided to make a comment saying he needs to make a decision she needs to -- he needs to grow up and move me to the box and i made the decision. coming up. >> they beat it severely. >> a brutal assault brings consequences that can go beyond time in the box.

it's known bythe nickname beantown, but inside the walls of the suffolk county jail where fights break out suddenly, the inmates have another name for the city.

>> if official charges are filed, the most likely charge would be assault and battery. a conviction, but then sent him to state prison for eight years >> most people come in and they don't want to make it if they have worse. they generally keep bad behavior. a person to keep up is rare. >> while the long-term consequences is unknown, his day to day life in the box is completely predictable. in the outside world, you learn to deal with it.

beat the case. most of the cases i have, i will be beaten. people won't show up hoping that happens. when i beat the cases, i'm all done. i think i will try the mundane life.
