back to the drawing board. as the clock ticks down on the country's spotless credit rating, house speaker john boehner is scrambling to reite his bucket bill after the congressional budget office said his proposed spending cuts failed to meet his estimates. tracie potts joins us from washington with the arrest latest. >> reporter: good morning. everyone. boehner put off his plan after staffers determined it won't save as much as he thought. republican john boehner is digging for more money. he said his plan is $150 billion short on savings, so he's put off today's vote to get the numbers in line. >> it can pass the house, and it can pass the senate and i hope the president will consider signing it into law. >> the speaker's proposal cannot pass the senate, will not pass the senate, will not reach the president's desk. >> boehner can only afford to

thank you. last night on "hard ball with chris matthews" he asked james carney if the president has given up on tax cuts if tr wellty as part of the so-called plan for the deal. >> that deal is there if the speaker would return to the table and negotiate it. we came very close, the president and the speaker did, and that opportunity still exists. secondly, the helpful proposal senator reid put out while it does not put up front the tough issues of entitlement reform or tax reform it does have a committee that would look on it on a fast track basis before the end of the year. that's not optimal. we would prefer a grand bargain that does it all at once, however, however it turns out, if we don't get those issues addressed, we're going to return to debate those tough issues because the pup lick supports a balanced approach. the it's not the right way do it if we don't ask for sacrifice

doing. >> look out, versace. >> yeah, look out versace. >> good morning, everyone. yesterday we saw storms rolling through england, got hit pretty good up by new england. it was pretty hochlt d.c. was # 5, atlanta was 94. but the real, real oppressive heat once again was in the heartland with the drought and the heat wave continues. that's where the worst of it is today. we have heat warnings in effect for the areas in orange, st. louis, kansas city, wichita, utah. dallas to memphis, you're under a heat advisory. you get the idea. what's different with this heat wave than what we dealt with last week, last week was hot but extremely humid. this week is not as humid this week. the dew points have been a little lower. if you're in the 70s, it's very uncomfortable. if you're in the 60s, it's not that bad. that's the case today. even in d.c., the sky is more

blue, not as much moisture in the air. it will be hot but not as humid. we still have thunderstorms rolling through the north. pretty good storms rolled through new york city last night around 89er 8:30 delaying the yankee game. the worst of the wet weather's rolling through minneapolis. we've had some on-and-off showers this morning. that is now pushing into wisconsin, so your morning drive should be okay. to the south it looks like omaha, you've got storms heading your way, i would guess about a half hour to 45 minutes from now. for your wednesday forecast, 104 in dallas. texas is ridiculous. it continues and is a broken record. that expands today. st. louis, you should be near a hundred. chicago, you're lucky. you should get thunderstorms late today that will cool you off. if you're joining us on the eastern seaboard, temperatures are going to be warm. as i mentioned, humidity levels are going to be down a bit. it does look like a hot forecast, but it was a lot worse last week. >> yeah. lower humidity can make all the difference. by, thank you. stocks stumble on washington

welcome back to "first look." i'm amara sohn. here are some of the top stories making news this morning. north korea is calling for a peace treaty with the u.s. to officially end the korean war. the request comes on the 58th anniversary of the armistice deal that ended the fighting. the two koreas have remained technically at war because there has never been a peace treaty. all this comes as one of north korea's top diplomats visits new york to try to restart six-party nuclear disarmament talks. the judge in the casey anthony trial is delaying the

release of the name of jurors until october. he says he is concerned about their safety following their not guilty verdict, and he wants to wait until things cool off. earlier this week hundreds of tourists from around the world protested in peru after being denied entry into -- the numbers being allowed into the ruins is now being limited because of damage created by multitudes of visitors. in england a woman was rescued after her car veered off the road and plunged down a cliff. she was trapped in a car for 20 hours before she was spotted and brought to safety. and in philadelphia, one of the nation's early left post offices in a building once owned by benjamin franklin, the first postmaster general, may be shutting down. it's on the postal service's list of nearly 3,700 branches that could be closed to save money.

taking a look at overseas trading this morning in tokyo, the nikkei dipped 50 points while in hong kong the hang seng fell 306789 once again stocks fell victim to debt deal pressure tuesday an it's only going to get worse until the issue is really resolved. 8 of ten companies fell. nasdaq stayed close to even thanks to tech success. broadcom led the way jumping more than 9% on the strong results. china's search engine baidu jumped. 3m dragged down the dow, posting results that posted general estimates but softness in some divisions drove shares down. ford also beat expectations but was down due to its caution about future demand.

netflix slid again after warning red-hot subscriber growth would cool this quarter. u.p.s. fell after warning the uneven economy could affect its results. u.s. steel fell 8% after warning earnings could fall this quarter. a.k. steel tumbled 17% p, mostly over a concern of higher raw material costs. amazon zoomed after a rev snu jump of 51%. in data june's prices for new single-family homes rose to a five-month high, but sales slipped. june's consumer confidence rose slightly but remains relatively low. clorox rejected as inadequate. investor call icons almost $11 billion bid. finally a lesbian couple wants changes at the tennessee theme park dollywood after the

look." i'm amara sohn. in sports the seattle mariners had lost 16 in a row, so it was almost unfair that they had to face yankee ace cc sabathia. le here's nbc's fred roggin. >> good morning. the yankee cc sabbaathia well o his way to pitchinging a perfect game. he struck out ten in the first five innings. at one point seven in a row. then the heavens opened. a 30-minute rain delay. sabathia came back, but it wasn't meant to be. brendan ryan sailed in the seventh. cc sailed with 14 strikeouts but no perfect game. the mariners have dropped 17 in a row. from great pitching to great running, phils and giants chase utley. a wall banger to center and utley was off to traces. you may reason he had a knee injury earlier this season. the knee looked good here. a home run the hard way. phils beat the giants, 7-2. braves and pirates played the

today's forecast, beautiful weather in new england, a great summer day. still a little hotter than we'd like from philadelphia southward. gorgeous day from buffalo to pittsburgh. even much of ohio will be a nice comfortable day, low humidity levels. by tomorrow humidity increases a little bit along with temperatures. maybe a few showers and storms across upstate new york, near 90 in pittsburgh. philadelphia, around 92. as i mentioned, d.c. around 94. the well advertised peak of this little mini wave will come on friday. that's when we'll see d.c., 95 to 100. saturday, 94. a little bit cooler by the time we get to sunday. but this heat wave, again, we set the bar so high last week that i think a lot of us can deal with this. this is more typical summer heat wave. >> not too bad. bill, thank you. you won't believe who the twilight star kristen stewart is turning her back on in a film
