good morning. richar louie in for chris jansing. he's making a pivot. president obama turns to his jobs agenda. his focus is clear in his rose garden speech. >> well, washington has been object sorbed in this debate about deficits. people across the country are asking what can we do to help the father looking for work? what are we going to do for the single mom who has seen her hours cut back at the hospital? what are we going to do to make it easier for businesses to put up that now hiring sign? >> let's get straight to it. mike viqueira is live at the white house. what's the president's plan, as you're hearing? >> well, it's been frustrating to say the least or not president. all along the president is focusing on jocks. we have heard of hard pivot. the recovery was last summer. as a matter of fact, just about a year ago yesterday treasury secretary time geithner had an op ed in the "new york times" that said "welcome to the

recovery." here we are again the president coming off this bruising fight over spending and debt. now he announced his plans through the "new york times", a multistate bus tour the week of august 15th. they're going to be talking yet again about jobs. a very important date coming up. this monthly thing that everybody watches the first friday of the month comes this week, the july unemployment numbers. very important that they start to sink down. but the forecast and gdp growth very soft. continuing political problem not to mentioned 15 million americans who are still out of work, richard. the president cognizant of that. here's a little more of what he had to say yesterday in the rose garden. >> because there's already a quiet crisis going on in the lives of a lot of families in a lot of communities all across the country. they're looking for work and they have been for a while. that ought to compel washington to compromise and it ought to

compel washington to act. >> one more big event looms on the horizon. don't mean to be flip but the president timing fund-raisers in his hometown of chicago. three of them tonight around his birthday, 50th birthday, a very big one tomorrow, richard. >> vick, looking at the dow already reacting in a negative way today for another -- ninth straight day. that's right. so not looking good. it's a little bit green. so that's good. the question going forward, what will the tone be the president might take on? it's been serious and maybe even dower in the last three months? >> first of all, i think you can expect the president to press congress. it will be going until after labor day without tackling front burner issues. the president is really pushing to extend that payroll tax cut, richard. that was part of the deal that the president struck with senate republicans last dietz when they extended the bush tax cuts. there was a payroll tax cut involved. part of that is going to be

another extension he will be pushing for unemployment benefits. you add trade deals and you can expect the president to talk about those as well in the coming weeks, richard. >> thank you so much, mike viqueira at the white house. continuing looking at jobs later this hour, talking to two representatives, tea party support candidate as well as a democrat. now to casey anthony. spotted for the first time since she walked out of jail. location, ohio. this past weekend. that may have already changed. is a judge ordered her to turn herself in by 5:00 p.m. in florida for probation in a check fraud case. >> we are anticipating filing more motions today and asking for a hearing immediately on this because we have an issue of safety. and the last thing we want to do is put casey in harm's way. >> kerry sanders is in orlando. kerry, do we know if casey will turn herself in today?

>> well, you do tphoerbgs as you said, the judge has set a deadline for 5:00 p.m. he gave her 72 hours to show up. behind me is the building at the department of corrections where she is supposed to report to her probation officer. now, the judge strickland in this case says she needs to serve one year probation in orange county. there apparently was some confusion because when she was released from jail it was believed she had served that probation when she was in jail awaiting the charges on murdering her daughter. again, of course she was acquitted on those charges. but she was released. thought she was a free woman. nobody said anything. then the judge early this week issued an order saying no. what i mean is you need to spend one year's probation for check fraud, a case that was cleared 16 months ago. she needs to spend one year after she is released from jail. you just showed the attorney who

is not happy. the department of corrections indicates that they believe she's going to turn herself in. take a look at this red page they have up right now. this is the casey anthony red page. on it it says awaiting the photograph. so they anticipate and they are making security preparations here for her to arrive. meantime, her attorneys are arguing that judge strickland is prejudiced and he should not be able to amend this order because of what he said in an interview shortly after casey anthony was acquitted. >> still not sure. i think that people don't understand the nature of circumstantial evidence and they don't understand that circumstantial evidence is evidence. >> and what the attorneys are arguing is that by the judge weighing in and seemingly indicating that the jury didn't understand that circumstantial evidence is evidence is that the judge is expressing an opinion

that she was guilty at least on some of what she was charged with. she was acquitted on the major charges of -- first degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter caylee. richard, i think we're going to see things play out today. perhaps in the courtroom. the one who ordered her back, he's on vacation. so he hasn't even seen the motions filed saying she should not have to turn herself in. >> disturbing new video out today showing the couple who kidnapped jaycee dugard taking another little girl. some ominous new video she filmed of young girls. that in a little bit. breaking news to bring you this morning. australian police are on the scene at a home in sydney where a woman who has a fastened to her neck. initial reports claim the

teenager was wired to the dwight and threatening to detonate it. the house is located in a wealthy suburb. police and the bomb squad are working with the woman and nearby homes have been evacuated. more this developing story when we do get it. has any mubarak made his first public appearance since the february uprising. he was wheeled into court in a hospital bed to begin his trial on corruption and other charges. very good day to you, martin. >> hi, richard. you can't exaggerate how astonishing this image is of former president hosni mubarak being put inside a metal cage with his two sons, by the way, who are accused with him of corruption. this was a historic dramatic image for egyptians or anybody in the middle east seeing the former leader in this way. he's being charged with corruption and also being charged with giving orders to

shoot protests during the january and february uprising here. 850 were killed here. 6,000 wounded. so if he is found guilty on this charge of ordering the killings, president mubarak, former strong man of egypt 30 years the undisputed leader of this country will face a possible death penalty. he did today in court bleed not guilty to all charges. his two sons, by the way, pleaded not guilty to corruption charges. outside while this was going on, there were demonstrations by protesters against mubarak and people supporting mubarak. riot police broke up the demonstrations. they were throwing stones at each other. the court continued. there were two recesses. we did speak to some of the people outside and some of the families of the victims inside iro. one woman said this. only to take revenge of one

person would revive 85 million. we need to see this dog with a rope around his neck. that's the feeling of many people in cairo today. a texas man is saying a police officer saved his life by using his patrol car to block the man's out-of-control suv right in the nick of time, the man called 911 evidently to report that he couldn't stop the car, which was speeding toward a downtown area at 60 miles per hour. the police car brought the suv to a stop just before it barreled into a crowded intersection. anybody home? ♪ yes! ha ha! ♪ [ clicking ] dad, what happened? power went out, want a hot dog? parole. >> when he was seeking to be released from custody and after being convicted he was able to manipulate psychologists and psychiatrists to basically do his bidding and recommend early release on his behalf. >> el dorado county prosecutors released the video into the parole system that failed to save dugard despite numerous visits to the garrido home. >> what does an agent do for his parolee. >> if you stay in the front room i don't have to place ow restraint. >> you can see how the couple tag-team the parole agent, harassing and distracting him as he looked around the property. in another video she acts as though she's taping her husband only to pan over to a young girl on a playground behind him. she said she made as many as 20 videos like this one for her husband so he can watch them over and over again.

>> these videos can be used for a number of purposes. number one is just to enhance the feeling he has of control, of power, of dominance. then again, this becomes a library for him to relive these events. lastly, they're almost a training video where he can see what type of concepts work. >> i'm joined now my forensic psychologist to get more perspective on this. dr. buzz, as many people call you here, what is probably shock to go many is that nancy garrido is helping her husband do this. why would she want to do that? >> i think when you look at nancy garrido you look at an extremely dependent personality. it was soen grained and her need to be loved was such a motivator she would receive any kind of directives, even if that meant procuring young children. when we look at dependent

personalities, women who have this overwhelming need to be dominated, to be loved, they would do anything to help their husband. she has low self value and perceives her husband as having all the value. >> does that let her off the hook? >> we have to remember this is a woman who met her husband in prison. she is visiting her uncle. we have to look at her husband. we have to look at phillip garrido. here is a man who is a predator. this is a man who looks to exploit people. and he sees say woman who is malleable, sees a woman who he can exploit, manipulate and work with him as a cohort. >> we see the wavy gray line. what kept them, if they took jaycee dugard, what kept them from taking any one of these girls? >> there we don't know nearly enough. in terms of nancy garrido, she may have thought if she did these commands she may have been saving other young children.

that by following what i dictated she may have rationalized if i do he won't do more damage. and she might have a cognitive impairment. there was substance abuse also involved. >> tell us about the psychology. why would he want to view the videos of these girls? a talent hunt of sorts? >> well, i think when you're dealing with someone with these destructive drives, looking at an anti-social personality. it is sociopathic traits. this impulse, this drive was so overwhelming that he looked out to procure, first, a wife who would help hip. but the impulse was so strong he didn't have control over his own impulses. it was there to pillage, rape, exploit society. someone who doesn't have any empathy with society. he found a wife he could puppet,

someone he had power over, someone he could exploit and control. then he viewed that as a way to get the rest of society without being able to get caught. >> so close as we saw to being caught but they did not get caught in the end. thank you so much. for your perspective today. >> thank you for having me. police in south houston did not have to go far to catch one drug suspect. he was arrested smoking pot in a police department parking lot. a detective was on his way to lunch when he smelled this distinctive order and spotted the subject lighting up right in front of a sign clearly marked "police." powell denies the charges and says it was a regular cigarette that he was smoking.

out of sydney, australia. we are understanding at this moment that the bomb squad has secured the safe release of a teenager who was in a home near a suspicious device. now, related to this case there's an 18-year-old woman that had a bomb fastened to her neck, according to a report by australia channel 7, nbc news partner. the bomb squad in sydney safely securing the release of a teenager who was in a home near that suspicious device. we'll keep you updated on that. the tea party is catching a lot of blame from the left for holding out on this debt deal and almost letting the government default. joining me now congressman michael bremen. congressman, thank you again for spending time with us. it's been quite a busy couple days. i know it's probably an empty hall that you're in today as many folks have left town. >> yes. >> with the debt deal the government can't throw money at the jobs problem. that's front and center now for everybody. what's the tea party's jobs plan

that you're aware of? >> well, i think it's a matter of taking what we have done, which is move the debate about getting control of this debt to the forefront. we have done that now. everyone knows we have a massive debt problem. it's turned into a crisis. now we have to deal with it. now that it's at the forefront we can't allow it to be part of the background. it has to be the primary message. we have to remember if we want to have economic security in this country we have to deal with your problems. we can't just talk around them and deal with things through budgetary gimmicks and so on. trickery is not going to work. we have serious problems. >> you're a businessman. what are some of the ideas? what is your idea for jobs? >> well, you know, the house -- i laugh a little bit because the house of representatives has already passed most of the ideas. we've passed bills that dials back the epa and some of the financial regulators. we've passed bills for energy so

we can start drilling now. all the things we need to do we have passed in the house. it's up to the senate and this president to sign it into law. so that's a bit of a frustration that we have here speaking for the house republicans that we have put forward a bunch of ideas. >> the bills that we have passed through the house will get signed into law. >> you used the word "fight." a lot of viewers are concerned about that. more fight, more criticism, more grid lock. and there has been criticism, in fact, of the tea party. here's what d.c.c. chair steve israel said on "hardball". you had a group of people, 87 tea party people who continued to go too far who woud out of negotiation every several days. >> so as we look forward to jobs

and those issues, were tea party supportive candidates as democrats described them and what does that mean going forward? >> first of all, it's absurd. let's look at facts. if the democrats were serious about controlling spending and moving the economy forward, they would have put on plan something on paper. they never did that. the president didn't do it. the democrats in the house didn't do it. they didn't do it in the senate. so this argument, in my opinion, is absurd on its face. because if they really had any ideas that they wanted to move forward they would have put them on paper and let it be scored by the cbo. what they did is give speeches and rhetoric and talk about things else sew takerly. and i think the biggest objection when it really comes down to it, it's very, very simple. they want washington as usual, politics as usual. and the conservatives have said enough of that. it doesn't work. washington is broken. the people of the united states know it.

it's about time we start listening to america. i listen to the people in statten a land and brooklyn and they're fed up with washington as usual. they want us to change the way things are working here. they want us to use common sense and a pragmatic approach. that's not what the people want. they want a balanced budget. just like in their homes and businesses. so i think this rhetoric is only going to divide the country more and add to the class warfare but it's not going to solve -- >> we hope not. we hope not. congressman, you have a month off. what are you going to do? >> it certainly isn't enough. i will be here to finish up some legislative initiatives that i've been working on. i'm going back to my district tomorrow. exactly what took place with this vote, how it affects them, how it affects our economy and keep moving forward. >> michael grimm, thank you as always. if you were hoping charlie sheen would ultimately return to two and a half men, the creator of the economy is making that, well, difficult.

cause of death. you mentioned we are in vermont. across the river from celina cass's hometown. right in this area divers discovered her body early this week. it's a tranquil place here but certainly not the crime scene itself. that's what divers and crime scene units have been investigating the last few days, collecting the evidence that they need in addition to waiting for more information from the autopsy result. in the meantime, the communities here are saddened and both angered trying to figure out what happened to celina and how she met this unfortunate and untimely death at 11 years of age. her mother and stepfather have not been speaking publicly. they have been working with investigators. they are frustrated and they are also waiting for word. >> there's a lot of frustration.

crisis, a manufactured crisis in terms of the debt ceiling that should have been addressed. we put that behind us now. now let's focus on putting america back to work. democrats have been calling. our theme is making it in america. job after job after job. proposal has been blocked or hasn't been taken up. but there are a number of bipartisan approaches out there, including natural gas act. it has 186 signatures. >> there are a bunch of ideas that the president wants done. a number of ideas the president has suggested that he would like to see at his desk here. is that the one you favor the most of the many he has put out here? >> i think there's many that are out here. that is clearly one of them. anything with infrastructure. how about with dealing with the faa. seeing these people laid off or furloughed over the break why

congress goes home. people are out of work. people are unemployed. that is a simple matter that could have been taken up by congress to have people go back to work. the president is right. it has to be about infrastructure and investment. rich, he said early on what we have to do is outinnovate, outbuild and out educate the rest of the world. people should be in a room focusing, on frankly from my opinion, what the new committee should be focusing on is jobs. how do we make cuts to the budget that are going to stimulate jobs and how we make investments that are going to stimulate jobs? but everything at the end of the day should be focused on the dignity that can come only from a job, the ability to look across the table at your spouse and let them know you're working and able to provide for them, able to send kids to school. >> such an important conversation. you brought it down to every american's conversation. but you've got a lot of work to do there before you can talk

about jobs perhaps. you have the 2013 budget. you've got 12 appropriations bills that have to make it through. we have a possible continuing resolution for 2012. there's a lot of things that need to happen here. what do you think you learned and congress learned so we can get the job done when it comes to giving attention to jobs? >> what congress has learned i hope is that you have to put the american people first. you can't put an ideology first. going on the other side has been to try to state it el kwrepbtly by the senate majority leader. our objective is to get rid of barack obama. that's not the american people's skwraefpbltd their agenda is to get back to work. it's an american agenda. we have to put people back to work. oh, by the way, when we put people back to work, that impacts the budget, the national debt, increases the taxes that come in here.

mandy, money moving down it looks like. >> yeah. >> investors focusing on today as we head towards the big unemployment report. >> absolutely, richard. the adp report was the first thing that the marker grabbed onto. it was stronger than expected in terms of its reading on the labor market. indeed, initially hoped the longest losing streak since october 2008. the problem is here, richard, do not be fooled into thinking this is a good indicator of what friday's number will look like. last month it was a big differential between what the adp reported and what the government payroll figure revealed. we're losing gains because it showed the service sector slowed down in july. a lot of focus on what's happening over european debt crisis. and gold rising to another record high, sitting around 16.71 for one ounce. >> lots to talk about when it comes to business and jobs this week. a michigan driver repeatedly ran a vehicle carrying a woman and seven children in a case of
