tonight, the republicans agree on one thing. they don't believe in making sense of the economy. now, it's his turn. president obama, goes on the road after the gop. we will hear from him live. plus, new details of the investigation into congressman darrell issa. the one who once said president obama is corrupt. and are we corporations people? some republicans think so. me and my pet bank will answer that question. welcome to the show. i'm al sharpton. tonight's lead, reality versus unreality. that's the actual choice in this presidential campaign. it looks like the republicans have their top three set, rick perry, michele bachmann, and mitt romney. but they are all from the party
3:01 pm
of unreality. they are planning it create jobs, we weaken government, dismantle the safety net. and take from the poor and give to the rich. that's their plan. their gender will drive the economy off the cliff. while president obama is dealing with reality. today, he started a bus tour across the midwest with the town hall in minnesota. and he went right after the republicans in congress. >> but some in congress would rather see their opponent lose than america win. we ended up creating more uncertainty and more damage to the economy that was already weak. now, we can't have patience with that kind of behavior any more. >> there is no shortage of ideas to put people to work right now. what is needed is action on the part of congress.

a willingness to put the partisan games aside, and say, we're going to do what's right for the country, not what we think is going to score some political points for the next election. >> for years, we've been hearing republican lawmakers and governors attack the government. as if they've forgotten their government workers. when republicans attack government, they are actually attacking the american people. you and me. and your neighbors and your parents and your kids. and grand kids. the president took those critics head on. telling the real story about what government actually does. >> government is social security. government are teachers in the classroom. government are a firefighters and our police officers. and the folks who keep our water clean and our air clean to breath. and our agricultural workers. and when you good it a national park and those folks in the

>> what we saw today, was a president dealing with reality. a leader responsible for the lives of 312 million americans. but what we've seen from republicans is more unreality. politicians pandering to the tiny portion of their fringe base. these republican candidates can't even face reality about their own records. michele bachmann hasn't sponsored a single jobs bill, that's become law in the entire five years in congress. mitt romney says he's mr. jobs creator, even though massachusetts ranked 47 out of 50. in job creation when he was governor. and rick perry, is twisting the facts on his job record as governor. but the so-called texas miracle, he did it again today. >> 40% of all the jobs created in america from june of 2009

until the present were created in texas. i know how to create jobs. >> as paul krugman points out in new york times today, the texas miracle is a myth. it offers no useful lessons on how to restore national full employment. job growth in texas was fuelled by immigration, a growing population, and high oil prices. things perry had nothing to do with. most of the jobs created were actually low income jobs. nearly 10% of texas workers earn just minimum wage. the worst in the country. and texas ranks 26 in the country in unemployment. that's right, for half of america has better jobless rate than texas. the so-called texas miracle is a mirage. that's why rick perry is in the unreality party.
3:06 pm
equally unreal is rick perry's view of america's safety net. he calls social security, quote, a ponzi scheme. he says it is a failure. folks, if you are against social security, the most successful government program of all time, then rick per i have your man. the truth is, the entire republican economic aen da is based on the idea of protecting the rich. michele bachmann made that point clear on meet the press. >> the job creation is taking the united states down from about the top corporate tax rate in the world, at 34%, down to something like is far more competitive. >> what about extending jobless benefits for people who are out of work. you think that's a necessary step? >> i think it would be very difficult for us to do because we, frankly, don't have the money. >> so we have money to give corporationes a massive tax cut, but not enough money to give

ordinary americans some help. if they try to find jobs. that not reality, and that's not the kind of leadership americans need to turn the economy around. in fact, today billionaire investors warren buffet wrote a new york times ad demanding that people pay taxes like him, the super rich. buffet took aim at quote, legislators in washington who feel compelled to protect us. much as if we were spotted owls. or some kind of endangered species. my friends and i have been cod elled longs enough by a billionaire friendly congress. it's time for our government to get serious about share id sacrifice. end of quote. in just a few minutes, the president will be speaking in iowa at the next stop of his bus tour. i have a question for the party of unreality.

compromise, we were able to put a package together that cut taxes for families by an average of $1,000. what i said, is let's continue this payroll tax cut into next year so as the economy is strengthening ordinary families who are still digging themselves out of credit card debt or seeing their homes under water, they have more purchasing power. that will be good for small businesses and large businesses and they will hire. we could right now say we are going to go ahead and renew that tax cut. that would be good for the american people and good for the economy. there's no reason to wait. there is no reason for us to wait, putting construction workers back to work all across the country. nobody took a bigger hit than those who are involved in the housing boom, when the boom went bust. so why don't we put them to work right now rebuilding roads and bridges and our schools. all across america.
