that the white house announced further sanctions on iran and iranian residents in the united states doing business in america. the question is how much we have the israel/ -- sorry, we have the israel situation and iran as a separate situation and syria as a third situation and the middle east is a powder keg right now. the foreign policy has helped in the past for obama, but how much does it help him going forward and whether it a plus or minus in his column in terms of the general election? >> it's a plus for him. because if you think back to two how and four, one -- 2004, people were feeling unsettled in iraq and people did not want to change horses. so i think if he is doing well as best people can tell and the world looks unsettled voters will say, let's stick with what

the fall for other candidates. but what has happened to romney over the last few months are particular blocks of voters that are turning on him. these are the middle class, blue collar workers. republicans got 62% of that block in the 2002 mid terms. if that block falls away that is a huge problem. you look at romney's negative ratings they have spiked 20 points among that same block and there's a clear relationship, disa appeared florida a bit, but there was a relationship between how well romney was doing and the income of those voters. >> 200,000 and up, you have your candidate. we will talk more about the races and that state nevada that had their caucus and the mind of newt gingrich. an interesting place. does he have what it takes to stay in the race?

let's talk about nevada, mitt romney has done well with groups that he has not traditionally done well with. he got 49% of the very conservative vote and 50% of the tea party and 64% of the white evangelic evangelicals. is this turning around for him? >> i would not say based on the nevada revada results because s accounted for a quarter of the republican vote. and a lot of mormons call themselves conservative and they were voting for romney at a 90% clip. it like reading into new hampshire too much, where it was his second home state t more interesting story going forward is i'm ready to say it's turned around, and romney has it in the bag if and when he wins southern states. we have been assuming gingrich is a the big challenger there

but what will be interesting is if santorum wins in those shorten state -- in those south states. >> i do not think that romney can sit back and relax, his only benefit is that the other people have not organized themselves and gotten together to stop him yet and his other person is the reason his negatives are so high is not because the candidates are beating up on him, it's because he is opening his mouth. he is talking. >> that's a combination of factors. >> that is why the more that people hear him talk, the less they like, he is not a good candidate. you hear gop insiders saying my lord, i thought gingrich was the one that was going to say stupid stuff and it mitt romney. i would say not so fast mitt

and mormonism was less of an issue for his father than it is it is more mitt. because mitt is running for a party that is 50% for evangelical christians. i think of reagan talking about himself as a born again episcopalian. and he was trying to blur the line and romney is trying do that. he does not want to cater to those ideas in the south. >> it's not acceptable to voters to not be authentic anymore. there was a time that a candidate could run a good ad and put a good face on and then have a good day. but voters want to know you are real and it not too much ask.

love newt or not, he is who he is and people respond to that in both ways. but romney cannot keep this vail up and succeed. >> voters want to see your soul. as long as he is not talking in a full way about his mormon background and what his religion means to him. he is not showing that. >> it's a good time tore discussion in class and vision he proposes for the vision of the america. these are his demons that he seems very, very uncomfortable acknowledging that it exists. >> his tax plan favors the rich less than newt gingrich's does. so that is nice. but it still favors the rich and it still cuts taxes and his entire economic vision reinforces this notion that he is mr. 1% and his plan serves the 1%, that does not help either. so he is saddled with a religion

that scares and turns off the evangelical base. how far can he go with it? >> this is a moment that he could throw the doors open and say why this is why this religion is great and why i believe in it. >> we are talking about how far republicans have become so religion. you have one of the most godly man that has ran for the president, but it's the wrong type of godly for them. >> on paper he should be doing great. but he is doing great because of his money. he have a de-- he is a deeply devout man, and he is a wonderful family man. knows how to recognize successful business and mknows how to dump one when it not successful. should be able to talk about it.

party. and he has already. i would like to say, many, many roots of the tea party are embedded in ron paul and the ron paul nation. and the voters that are behind ron paul are not just going to go vote for mitt romney and hop on board after the republican convention, they are so loyal. they will want him to say, you want to run a third party, we are behind you? where do you want us to go. he has been consistent and has been who he is and loyal to his own principals and you just have to give him credit for that. he will not win. >> this is a bad weekend for the ron paul campaign, what happened in nevada, the strategy they have been the talking up, we will go into february and rack up delegates there, i don't know if the count is complete. he is hovering at 19% in nevada, the talk was they were not putting numbers on it, but the

idea you were led to believe was of 30% to 35%. he cannot get 19%. he will not rack up delegates. if romney runs away with the race after super tuesday. if ron paul brings a block of thr 300 or so, he will be voted down and then the trump card, i think it's clear now that romney will not run third party because he sees an opportunity for his son in the future. >> the legacy of rand. >> you cannot be ralph nader of the republican party and push forward. >> ron paul won true conservative voters by 39% and i think that is interesting kind of to the romney campaign insofar as he has his grassroots

young, he has young voters. they have l-o-v-e for paul. the other guy to look at is rick santorum, we know that they are having a conference call on pork barrel spending. how far can you go if you are rick santorum. it's minnesota, colorado and and missouri tomorrow and what is the prognosis? >> i think it's interesting that there was never a real attempt or maybe there was and it did not work, but putting together gingrich and santorum, if there was going to social conservative opposition to romney that had to happen and it just will not happen. he is not going to surge ahead of gingrich. he is doing what he did. he is not taking off. he had a magical moment in iowa

and has done nothing since except turn more people off. that had to happen. and if that doesn't happen, it will be interesting to us, but he will limp along getting very few voters. >> i disagree from this standpoint. what might happen tomorrow. i saw a poll that had the minnesota race at two points. 28-26 santorum. pat robertson got 30% and beat george senior. these are santorum's people and he put effort there. if you look at the press that gingrich has been getting he seems to be in a decline, if santorum can win minnesota and if he can really out pace gingrich in colorado. i could see santorum emerge in the next few weeks and play role that gingrich will play. i think he needs a big night to
