outraged by the mass killing of more than 100 people, syrian activists say there has been a similar attack by forces loyal to president bashar al assad. activists say pro-government militia and security forces killed at least 78 people, including women and children in this central province of hama. the syrian observatory for human rights group said army troops shelled the area and then militia men armed with guns and knives carried out the attack. meanwhile in turkey, secretary of state hillary clinton told a meeting of foreign ministers that a transition in syria must include full powers for an interim government and free elections. back here at home, opening arguments are set for next monday in the case against jerry sandusky. yesterday the last of 12 jurors and four alternates were chosen. several of them have connections to the university. something the judge in the case called unavoidable in such a small community.

nbc's brian mooar reports from belfont, pennsylvania. >> reporter: though it once seemed unlikely, a judge seated a 12th member of the jury that will decide the child sex abuse case against former penn state defensive coach jerry sandusky. >> the judge is clearly moving the case along quickly. the jury selection process, he didn't waste any time in phase two. >> reporter: juror 12 was seated before lunch, a day and a half after jury selection started. that silenced those who believed it was impossible to find a jury in a small community with such close ties to penn state and its legendary football team. well, the judge says these ties are to be expected. some of the connections were a little too close. >> 15 people knew a member of the -- a person named on the prosecution witness list. 20 people knew someone on the defense witness list which was much longer. >> reporter: one juror is a current student. another a season ticket holder

whose husband worked with the father of key prosecution witness mike mcqueary who says he caught sandusky and one of the victims in a penn state shower. for those who didn't make the jury, mixed feelings. >> i felt like i could have been a neutral juror. >> a little thankful i didn't get picked just because i do own my own business and it would have caused hard times for that. >> reporter: sandusky is accused of abusing ten boys over a period of 15 years. charge he's has repeatedly denied. but nbc news has learned the prosecution intends to kick off its case with a bizarre letter written to one of the alleged victims. a document that literally spells out an inappropriate relationship with the former coach. brian mooar, nbc news, belfont, pennsylvania. elsewhere, a security breach at two widely used websites has compromised the private information of millions of users. the social business network linked in and the online dating service eharmony said wednesday that some of their users' passwords were stolen and

millions afear have been leaked on to the internet. both companies declined to say how many accounts had been breached. cybersecurity experts advise that users are both websites should change their passwords immediately, especially if they use the same code to access other online accounts. tax cuts for the wealthy passed under president george bush and they expire at the end of this year. and republicans are arguing they should be made permanent. well, last night on "politics nation," robert reich talked to host al sharpton about repeated gop claims tax breaks for the rich help the economy. >> republicans have learned a very important lesson over the years, al. that is if you tell the same big lie over and over and over again and you have enough money behind the big lies, eventually people start believing them. they've been saying that the bush tax cuts need to be extended because they worked so well in 2001, 2003 and in the years after that. well, the fact of the matter is,

they poked a huge hole in the budget deficit and instead of creating a lot of jobs and creating -- instead of improving wages and economic growth, even before the great recession, the bush tax cuts were a complete dud. we had almost no job growth compared to the job growth during the clinton administration. and the median wage, the wage for most americans, continued to drop after 2001. you had a huge, huge tax cut for the wealthy and nothing trickled down. i mean tickle down economics is a cruel joke, and the republicans have absolutely no compunks about saying that trickle down economics works when the evidence is exactly the reverse. >> lean forward with the reverend al sharpton and "politics nation" 6:00 p.m. weekdays on msnbc. here's your first look at some of the other news going on around america today. in new york it was quite a sight. the space shuttle "enterprise" is now home for good.

crowds watched as it made its final journey hoisted off a barge and on to the deck of the "uss intrepid." it took about three hours to lift the shuttle into place. visitors can see it up close beginning next month. in texas, gosh it was a chilly moment during a robbery at a cell phone store. just as it was happening, a dad entered with his 4-year-old daughter. one of the robbers aimed a gun at the father then at the child. the man handed over his wallet and then hugged his little girl. the robbers are still on the loose. in new york, the operator of a commuter train was caught reading the newspaper instead of keeping his eyes on the tracks. at times he also appeared to be staring at his cell phone. transit officials say it's not acceptable. and finally at florida's walt disney world, the magic kingdom was not so magical for a pair of teens. that's because they showed up wearing peter pan and tinkerbell costumes. but employees of the park told them their costumes looked too much like the real deal worn by

cast members so they were ordered to change into replacement clothes or leave. disney world argued it would have been confusing to the kids at the park. and now for a look at your national weather we turn to bill karins. >> confusing because they think they were characters or why are these people wearing these costumes? >> why are they wearing these costumes. i thought you were going to say because why doesn't everyone dress up as peter pan. >> i just ordered us aladdin and jasmine costumes. >> perfect. maybe we'll get kicked out of nbc. yesterday, some pretty cool pictures of hail in the denver, colorado, area. it was coming down hard. we even had a couple of reports about tornadoes out by the airport. that was some of the smaller hail pictures. it did start to accumulate almost looking like hail in douglas county. let me show you a picture sent in by andrew nielsen. this is what happens when you have the heavy rain mixed with

the large hail. these were cars submerged. almost looks like a winter picture. this is what they were dealing with. i imagine the owners of those vehicles not too happy. severe storms rolled through dallas-ft. worth. numerous reports of wind damage and large hail there. and those storms are finally pushing to the south and weakening. just a lot of lightning strikes out here by stephenville and brownwood. this is the dallas area, ft. worth. thousands of lightning strikes. up to almost 5,000 in the last hour. dallas and ft. worth looking okay. just some showers left over for your morning commute. here's the forecast for today. looks and feels a lot like summer out there across the country. we don't have a lot of wet weather to deal with. finally looks like a dry morning. florida, you'll be seeing the worst of it. yesterday, the strong storms around miami. a chance of more strong storms today. warm and humid. and we're starting to get warmer from d.c. to philly to baltimore to new york. all areas there getting up into the mid to upper 70s at least.

has given her a second chance demanding an apology for her to avoid being sued for, quote, massive damages. an archaeologist in bulgaria have discovered two men who were buried with iron rods in their chest. it's thought because people feared they would rise from the dead as vampires. the 800-year-old grave is just the latest of more than 100 vampire skeletons that have been discovered in bulgaria over recent years. now here's your first look at how wall street will kick off the day. the dow opens at 12,414 after skyrocketing 286 points yesterday. the s&p soared 29. the nasdaq spiked 66. taking a look at overseas trading this morning, in tokyo the nikkei rose 106 points while in hong kong, the hang seng gained 157. speculation the u.s. and europe will help their economies sent stocks surging to their best day of the year wednesday. hopeful investors clung to comments from a trio of federal

reserve officials indicating the central bank may need to take new actions to support economic growth. in other words, stimulus. traders will be listening for any similar hints from ben bernanke's testimony before congress on the nation's economic health. and adding to investors' hopes, the feds' anecdotaal beie book contradicted the dismal jobs report. the result sent the dow back into positive territory for 2012 after last friday's sell-off wiped out the year's gains. home builders rallied held by a strong earnings report from hovnanian. morgan stanley jumped 8% amid reports private equity firms may try to buy a stake in the bank' halliburton fell on news of a shortage of fracking materials that will double its north american profit losses this quarter. meanwhile, mattressmaker tempur-pedic plunged.

nasdaq's chief told cnbc the exchange is embarrassed as an organization and has set aside $40 million to compensate losses incurred by facebook's botched ipo. financial firms say that falls far short of an estimated $100 million lost. in the most fuel efficient car in the u.s. is ready to hit the road. honda's new electric fit clocks in at, get this, 118 miles per gallon. that comes in handy. coming up -- new jersey's devils avoid the sweep managing a first step in the most unlikely of comebacks. plus, oklahoma beats texas. not on the grid iron, on the nba hardwood. your first look at sports is straight ahead. you're watching "first look" on msnbc.

welcome back. i'm lynn berry. in sports, the new jersey devils forced the los angeles kings to put away their brooms. here's nbc's fred roggin. >> good morning. well, the l.a. kings will have to wait a little longer to capture their first stanley cup. the devils took game four and they are still alive. there it is, the cup itself. kings trying to go thr the sweep. the devils would not go away easily. game scoreless heading into the third period. new jersey struck first off the rebound. patrik elias. devils up taking their first lead of the series. on the power play, dowdy fired and the puck found its way into the back of the net.

the game tied at one. however, the night belonged to the devils. david clarkson to adam hen reek who controlled the puck with his skate and fired it past jonathan quick. they later added an empty-netter. the kings lead the series three games to one. they could wrap tup saturday. game five is in new jersey. half of the nba finals is set after an incredible come-from-behind victory by oklahoma city. thunder hosting the spurs. san antonio in control early thanks to tony parker. the spurs up by as many as 18. but oklahoma city turned it on behind a stellar performance from kevin durant. 20 of his 34 in the second half. oklahoma city led 79-77. russell westbrook added 25, including a layup plus the foul giving the thunder a six-point lead with under three minutes to play. now the dagger. dur toont perkins. now watch durant. a few seconds later, hugging his family seated courtside. 14 seconds to play. thunder eliminate the spurs after trailing two games to
