results of historic elections in debt ridden greece had an inclusive vote last month had world lead rps and investors fearing the worst. the latest poll shows the conservative democracy party with a slight edge. the conservative party favors austerity measures tied to the international bailout, a measure seen as crucial to that country and the eurozone stability. the pro bailout win was good news last night as president obama arrived in mexico joining a summit of 20 world leaders looking for ways to boost the global economy. another pressing issue at the g-20 summit, russia's supporting role in syria's on going crisis. this is the first time since putin returned to power to meet with president obama. calls for a peace initiative took on a sense of urgency.

richard engel reports from cairo. >> reporter: the syrian opposition is outrage thad the united nations has decided to suspend its observer mission in syria. the u.n. observers claim they were attacked by syrian forces, shot at by syrian troops, attacked by mops inspired by the government and were no longer able to do their observations and report back to the former secretary general of the u.n., kofi annan. they're accused of cowardice and says since the syrian government has only increased its attacks particularly on the city of homs. while the opinion operations are suspended, there is a chance when obama meets with vladimir putin of russia. this is the first time since putin returned to power he'll be meeting with the u.s. president. it is an opportunity to really

push this peace initiative forward and end the deadlock. richard engel, nbc news cairo. president obama's decision to stop deporting some children of illegal immigrants has become an issue on the campaign trail. republicans denounced the order as political, questioning whether it was a ploy to win hispanic votes this fall. nbc's brian mooar has the story from washington. >> reporter: as mitt romney served up breakfast to voters in ohio, his talking points were jobs and the economy. the conversation has suddenly shifted to immigration. president obama's decision to stop deporting children brought into this country illegally. >> if he really wanted to make a solution that dealt with these kids or illegal immigration in america, this is something he would have taken up in his first 3 1/2 years, not just in last few months. on cbs romney declined four times to say whether he'd repeal the policy if he's elected. >> we'll look at that setting as we reach that. >> reporter: republicans says it

>> preliminarily it appears to be accidental. >> reporter: he was found by his fiancee in a swimming pool at his home in rialto, california. he was rushld to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. in 1991 video emerged of lapd officers beating king following a high-speed chase. four officers were charged with assault. their acquittal a year later rocked los angeles and led to one of the most destructive riots in u.s. history. the violence lasted three days, killed 55 people and left large parts of los angeles ablaze. >> can we all get along. those five words are part of king's legacy, a plea for peace in the midst of raging violence that tore through los angeles. in the 20 years that followed, rodney king openly struggled with alcohol and occasional

i think north of milwaukee will be the worst. anywhere south of milwaukee you should be dry this morning including chicago. also light showers trying to move through pennsylvania. the really struggling to hold together. around washington, d.c. you may have sprinkles this morning, at worse is it a quick shower. maybe the umbrella, but you don't need it much. in the mountains of west virginia, a little light rain. the big weather story this week is the heat. very hot from denver to kansas city. that area of the country is going to stay warm. all the heat is going to spread beast. it's been very cool in areas of new england. this has been the weather pattern with high pressure sitting overhead. the winds coming from the cool water. as we go throughout the upcoming week, all the heat is going to spread. it's going to be a flip of the switch from 70s to mid to upper 90s. the bottom line, make sure your ac is working in the northeast. we haven't needed it yet.

welcome back to "first look." i'm veronica de la cruz. here is nbc's mario solis. good morning. it was a busy sunday in sports. let's get right to it. game three of the nba finals in miami, thunder and heat. let's pick it up in the third quarter. off the miss, kevin durant is there to clean things up. okc up by as many as ten in the quarter. however just not enough. lebron james, dwyane wade and company come storming back. james jones from downtown, heat up five. late in the fourth, lebron calls his own number. the layup and the foul. miami wins 91-85.

game four is tomorrow. u.s. open. if you don't know who webb simpson is, you will now. birdies four out of five to get in the hunt. jim furyk doing his best, rolls in a miracle 30-footer for par, but crumbles down the stretch with bogeys on 16 and 18. webb finishing the day with one over. all he could do was sit and see if his lead would stick. graeme mcdowell needing this putt on 18 to stay alive. it's left. webb simpson wins the u.s. open. to nascar, the big crash wasn't on the crash, but on the infield. watch out for the fence. he was okay. dale earnhardt junior picking up his first win in 143 races, back in the winners circle. baseball, l.a. ties in the ninth and wins it in the tenth. dodgers walk off with a 2-1 win.

twins and brewers tied at four in the 11th. great opportunity for the brewers to get something good. ben revere puts an end to that. to the 15th inning, two outs for denard span. he sends everyone home. a walk-off single. twinkies win this one 5-4 in 15. that's your first look at sports. i'm mario solis. for another look at the hero here is nbc meteorologist bill karins with the forecast. >> a lot of complaints i feel. it wasn't that -- people in new england especially and down along the mid click coast. the temperatures are pretty chilly because the winds are coming off the water. we'll go from that to really, really hot in the flip of a switch. today is one of days, the east winds are keeping temperatures kind of chilly. we will watch the big temperatures in the middle of the country spreading east. today is 98 in chicago, 98 in denver.

all the heat is really high in the middle of the country. that spreads east. washington, d.c. will see a big jump in temperatures. this is the weather pattern towards the middle of the week. when high pressure sits to our south along the east coast, that pumps the warm-up up the eastern seaboard and will eliminate the cool air off the click ocean. washington, d.c. get ready. today, 77, cloudy, showers, kind of low humidity. the humidity rises near the temperatures. we could be near 100 degrees in washington on thursday. usually it's the first heat waves of the summer that are the hardest on the elderly. that's the big concern, all the way through philadelphia, new york city. new york city will be 59 and 96. new york city hasn't hit 90 so far this season. this will be a shock to the season. >> you said there will be a lot of complaints. i'm not complaining. i'm take sunshine. >> not until the heat index is high. a reality star gets a shocking diagnosis.
