and rumors of muhammad ali's demise, all premature? we'll explain. very good morning. we begin with a developing tragedy in southern california, a tour bus collided with two other vehicles killing at least eight people, injuring dozens more. authorities said that the driver reported having brake problems as the bus came down the mountains. it rear-ended a car before h hitting a tractor trailer. >> it started to move so fast and people started screaming. >> two to three minutes swerving in and out. >> everybody was scared. everybody was screaming. >> the bus was reported returning from a ski trip. president obama pushing for broader gun control messages.

political reporter for roll call. the president has been campaigning against gun violence since the two months since the sandy hook shooting. >> i think he's gaining traction. the president is going to minneapolis today. one of his big political supporters is the mayor of minneapolis. and he's going to make his case. but, the question isn't wanting going to happen in minneapolis, the question is what's going to happen on capitol hill? unlikely they'll be able to pass any comprehensive gun control legislation. >> what part are you referring to specifically? >> members of congress are talking about a possible, feasible legislative goal, more comprehensive background checks, in addition to the some of the executive orders that obama put in a few weeks ago.

but they're talking about basically closing the gun show loophole, that kind of thing. any talk of an assault weapon ban doesn't appear likely of the makeup with the current congress. next tuesday, the president is going to be delivering his state of the union address. how much of a priority do you feel this issue is going to be? >> compared to previous state of unions much greater priority. i think it will play a large role. i think he'll talk about immigration quite a bit as well. very different state of the union than we have seen before. we begin in southern california, 300 pounds dynamite leveled a massive power plant. to make way for public park and other projects.

a touchdown pass. in the second quarter, baltimore scored two more touchdowns to make it look a blowout. they went to halftime with a 21-6 lead over san francisco. in the third, ravens' jacoby jones set a record with 108-yard kickoff return. and then, the power went out in the superdome. it took 34 minutes before the lights were back on and play was restarted. then, momentum shifted quickly as san francisco scored two touchdowns in less than 2 1/2 minutes. in the fourth quarter, niners' quarterback colin kaepernick rolled left and kept going for the touchdown. san francisco had the last you shot at the end zone, but there was contact between michael crabtree and ravens' jeremy smith. the game ended on a ravens' kickoff. 49ers returned as time-out.
