of it. it's the $200 million question this morning, where did all that money go? yes, it's a thursday. one more day to go, folks. it's "way too early." good morning, everybody. brian schactman here. that's what i want to know from you this morning, if you had 200 million bucks, you had to spend t like you had to spend it, how would you do it? use the #waytoowealthy. i'll read the best responses later in the show, maybe share some of my buying habits in a few minutes. right now our top story this morning. according to bashar al assad, the country has received the first wave of sophisticated air defense missiles delivered from russia. moscow said it would send the s-300 missiles to help stabilize the region over objections from the u.s., from israel and

france. the u.s. and russia had been trying to bring peace to that civil war torn country, this only complicates things. israel says the missiles can reach into their airspace, possibly threatening commercial flights near tel aviv. a rare interview with president assad will air in lebanon today where some of his military supporters come in the form of hezbollah. the fbi and nypd are investigating threats against new york city mayor michael bloomberg. an ano an anonymous letter was sent to him containing the poison ricin. a similar letter was also sent to the director of mayors against illegal guns in washington, d.c. an nypd spokesman said the writer made threatening comments about bloomberg's support for gun control. members of the nypd emergency service unit came in contact with the letter at the city's

mail facility. they are being examined for minor symptoms of ricin exposure. the mayor says the threats will not impact his stance one bit. >> but there's 12,000 people who will get killed this year with guns, 19,000 will commit suicide with guns. we won't walk away from those efforts. i know i speak for all of the close 1,000 mayors and mayors coalition against guns, this is a scourge on the country we have to get under control. >> law enforcement sources said the letters were postmarked from shreveport, louisiana. attorney general eric holder is trying to make amends with the media, but his efforts are being met with resistance. the request from president obama for holder to meet with journalists this week. however the "new york times," associated press and huffington post will not attend because the justice department asked for the

meeting to be off the record. holder is also under heavy criticism from lawmakers who believe he may have committed perjury during his may 15th testimony on capitol hill. >> with regard to the potential prosecution of the press force disclosed material, that's not something i have been involved in, heard of or think is a wise policy. >> just days after making that statement we learned holder personally signed off on a warrant names fox news reporter james rosen a criminal co-conspirator in a criminal leak case. yesterday the white house press secretary jay carney rejected claims that holder misled congress, adding the president has confidence in holder's abilities as attorney general. according to sources close to the white house, president obama will nominate james comey as the next director of the fbi. comey is a republican and former senior justice department official under president bush. he is best known for his role in

the 2004 standoff with white house council alberto gonzales over a controversial domestic eavesdropping program. at the time he was acting as attorney general in place of john ashcroft who was recovering from emergency gallbladder surgery. he, of course, stood in the way of more eavesdropping to be done in the administration. we'll see what happens in confirmation. lincoln chaffe expected to change the letter next to his name from an "i" to a "d." he also had the "r" as well. his staff says it is not a political move. he will face a hostile re-election against other democrats. president obama in a statement welcomed him to the party, and said he enjoyed working with chafee when he was a republican in the senate. according to "the boston globe" the move reflects a broader regional shift with three elected officials changing their

affiliations since 2001. some republicans acknowledge a different tact in the northeast because of a progressive evolution that left the area at odds at times with the national party. it is considered one of the worst atrocities in the war in afghanistan. 16 civilians brutally massacred in their sleep by a u.s. soldier who snuck off his base. now attorneys for staff sergeant robert bales say he has agreed to plead guilty to charges of premeditated murder to avoid the death penalty. most of the victims in the 2012 attack were women and children. there is concern that the plea deal could stoke tensions in the region. bales was serving his fourth tour of duty and the mental toll of multiple deployments made some experts skeptical he would receive the death penalty even if convicted. a mother of seven, a devout mormon and now accused drug mule. it's not a fictional story.

yanira maldonado is in a mexican jail now accused of trying to smuggle marijuana from a mexican town into arizona on board a bus. she and her husband gary were returning home after a funeral for her aunt a week ago when soldiers stopped the bus, claimed to find 12 pounds of marijuana under her seat. family members have accused mexican authorities of a setup, her husband just wants it to end. >> it's just so bizarre down here, so different that we don't -- we're not used to it. this process is just -- we wanted it to be over. we're thankful for everybody's support. just keep -- everything, keep on making this alive so people can give us her support so she can be free. she's an innocent woman. i love my wife dearly. >> maldonado's attorney cast doubt on whether the drugs were actually on the bus. based on conflicting testimony

from soldiers. yet to be charged, family members are hopeful she will be freed soon. to business where wall street is looking to rally after a rare down day. all three indices fell yesterday. the dow tumbled more than 100 points, it was the worst one-day loss in nearly a month. let's check in with jeff cuttimore in london. if the u.s. economy does better it's bad for the markets because the federal reserve might pull back. it's strange what could be good for our economy might be bad for stokes. >> absolutely. we had a fed voting member talking about maybe, possibly, we're kind of open to the idea of starting some tapering here, which means reigning back this $85 billions that the fed drops every month on bond purchases. that has the market nervous. if that process begins, what happens next to equities? do they go up or down on the

tapering story? it's also effecting other markets. we saw a massive move on the japanese nikkei 225 today. they have some local issues to worry about. the bank of japan's own qe program. there is nervousness in japan as well about what the fed is doing. hold your horses a bit i think they say on this positive open for the u.s. market. we have negative prints on some of the futures for the u.s. open. we'll see how that works out as we get to the start of the market session with europe looking a little bit flaccid. let's move beyond nasdaq, you remember that snafu over the facebook ipo. the regulator says that is down to the nasdaq omx. they charged them $10 million, a fine for what happened with facebook. when i go into starbucks, i often flick a couple of coins into that cup, just to show my appreciation for the barista who

brewed up the coffee. it seems some of the managers want a slice of that action. and there's a major court decision coming up on how those tips get divided here. >> you think the managers -- >> i think it should go to the managers brewing up the coffee. would you give it to the managers? >> i would not. i don't like calling them bar rey ristas, but they deserve the tip. a big tech entrepreneur he's now filing for bankruptcy. what's the deal here? >> this is an amazing story. this is like one of those things where they say, you know what, stick with what you know. this guy founded cnet. cnet was sold on to cbs for $1.8 billion. this man's personal income was

in the hundreds of millions of dollars. now he's filed for personal bankruptcy. he said i should have stuck with investing in tech. i stuck it in art. i stuck it in property. i should have known better. there is that old investing statement go with what you know. clearly he didn't, brian. >> if you had 200 million, i probably wouldn't see you tomorrow. i know you had that lottery you didn't win in the uk, but i'm glad you're here. >> yeah, absolutely. a little bit grim. i don't know how you could lose money that quickly except getting divorced, effectively. >> that would work. this reminded me of one of my guilty pleasures. i think of the richard prior/john candy classic. had to spend 30 million in 30 days to get 300 million. we want to know if you had to burn through 200 million bucks in five years, because he said

it was ground level. flooding continues to be a huge concern there in the midwest. it will continue as we go throughout the next couple of days. we have been watching the tornado threats, in the back of my mind i'm reminding everyone this major flooding heading from the mississippi will steal head lines, especially next week. another complex of heavy torrential rain from tulsa, up to kansas and heading into missouri. we are expecting the area to get two to four inches of additional rainfall. this is the whole flood basin for the upper mississippi river. it will flood down through areas north of st. louis. st. louis could have a top five all-time flood forecast as we go through next week. these records go back almost 200 years. a top five is a big deal for that area. of course the city is protected by the flood wall. yeah, by the way, since barn kna icle only wants to talk about
