of the problems. it was a star trek video that got us talking. now another many baresing video emerges from the irs. that's right. this is "way too early" and we're not dancing a jig on this monday morning. good morning, everybody, it's june 3rd. we will never use company resources to make a company video. we can make video for free. we'll get to the irs story in a little bit. the wild weather continuing in the midsection where 16 people were killed over the last few days. first in missouri where three people are dead after severe flooding and several tornadoes also touched down there, causesing severe property damage. the major loss of life and damage was back in oklahoma city, in that area five twisters touched down on friday including
2:31 am
13 people, including four children. four people remain missing at this hour. it was a particularly tough weekend for those that cover these type of storms. three storm chasers were killed while tracking the system. we had a weather crew in the middle of everything. members of one team directly crossing bath paths with a twister that flipped their vehicle several time. luckily, mike bettis and their crew are okay today. also, 3,000 people are out of their homes this morning as a wildfire threatens an area north of los angeles, california. 15 homes were damaged when the power house fire tore through 35 miles of dry brush. for some perspective, this is an area that hasn't seen a wildfire since 1929. there are more than 2,000 firefighters working with water-dropping aircraft, as you can see, to attack this fire. the most recent estimates say it is only 20% contained. it's the largest of several

"the new york times" reports people in the west wing privately telling associates they wish he would step down. yesterday on the sunday talk shows there was a recurring theme that eric holder's time might be running out.
2:33 am
>> let's call on holder to resign. there's no way holder can continue to do his job as arrogant he has been about what his department is doing. >> does he stay on the job? >> boy, i think it's tough to see how he does at this case. there's no party of that two-step people saying, it would be better if he left. it would be better for the president to get this cleaned up. >> might be a rough week for holder. it's going to be a rough week for the irs as well. tomorrow treasury department investigators will release a report on excessive government spending which found the irs spent $50 million on more than 200 conferences for employees just between 2010 and 2012. this includes a fathering in anaheim, california, where employees watched training videos that spoofed, as you well know, star trek, gilligan's island and they cost at least $50,000 each. probably just for the costumes

and set. they found the agency did not negotiate lower rates and some employees stayed in presidential suites that cost up to 3500 bucks a night. overall the cost of the 2010 conference came in at 4 million bucks. you're watching the video of them dancing. meanwhile congressman darrell issa says the oversight committee is working to find out who is responsible for the irs's targeting of conservative groups. he also had tough words for white house press secretary jay carney. >> and the administration is still, their paid liar, their paid spokesperson, he's still making up about things what happens and calling it local rogue. there is no indication -- the reason lois lerner tried to take the fifty not because there's a rogge in cincinnati, because this is a problem coordinated in all likelihood right out of washington headquarters. and we're getting to proving it. it's a perfect setup for

they and their neighbors went to. this storm killed at least 13 people. we're talking two children involved in this between two and four children. we're still trying to get confirmation on that. and three storm chasers, very well known folks in the storm chaser community. these were not people who were going out for some kind of thrill. these were scientists who were killed in this storm who were going to actually figure out how tornadoes work. and they had been working on this kind of research for a long, long time. it was their life's work. so, we lost three people. up to four children in this. and 13 deaths total. this is a devastating tornado that we have seen rip through the area of el reno, oklahoma, and union city. that's where we are right now. yesterday we talked to a family who got down in a shelter that was in their yard. five people survived in that

shelter no bigger than an industrial sized freezer. back to you guys. >> david, i want to ask you, david, the storm chasers were also working on the television side. of course, we were lucky our weather channel crew made it through okay. the question people are asking this morning, is the effort to get the story or the images so great that we're getting too close here? i mean, do we need to rethink how we approach these storms? >> reporter: you can make that argument but it's not just -- what you see on television is the pictures. but what they're getting is not just the pictures. these are meteorologists who are getting data. you can get just so much information from radar about where a tornado actually is, what it's doing on the ground. the other information you have to get from eyeballs on the ground. human eyes. before we get drones maybe in the future to go in and get that kind of data, we still need those human eyes on the ground, so it is a life-saving effort.
2:39 am
it's not just to see the pretty pictures. >> david, thanks for being with us this morning. david malkoff of the weather channel. let's get to business news. the may jobs data comes out on friday. on friday oil hit its lowest level since may 2nd. might reach $90 to the downside. the treasury department says it lil allow companies that produce beer, wine, spirits to provide nutritional labels. it would be voluntary and could include information about fat, calories and sugars. apple getting closer to finalizing deals with the music industry that would clear the way for planned internet radio service. apple hoped to roll it out last summer but faced pushback from record labels seeking high royalty rates. the official announcement could come as early as next week.
