what his suspension means for all the other players allegedly involved. why i've said it before. we're clean. this is "way too early." i am all juiced up on caffeine. i'm brian shactman. tuesday, july the 23rd. and where else would we begin? the royal baby. 4:24 p.m. british summertime. her royal highness, the dutchet of cambridge gave birth to a boy. unless you've been under some sort of proverbial rock, you knew that. 8 pounds, 6 ounces. third in line to the throne. kate and baby reportedly both in good health. but remained at st. mary's hospital overnight. for the latest out of london we go to jim maceda at st. mary's hospital. i guess the next thing we want to know, are we going to see these three any time soon?

>> reporter: hi there, brian. well, we hope so. no sign yet of the new royal family, but there is every indication starting with the hair dresser that went in a little while ago to believe that kate, after recovering overnight from a pretty normal, healthy birth, that she's very keen to go home as quickly as possible. we had a short briefing from some royals, from royal press people a little while ago saying that we would get an hour notice. we haven't had that hour's notice yet. but it's quite possible that we do here some time this morning. probably they would move then after they come out, get into their vehicles, go perhaps to buckingham palace where they'd see the queen. then on to kensington palace where they live. eventually she'd go to, we'd think, her parent's home. despite the thundershowers, brian, overnight. the joy and excitement here is still palpable. plenty of britons and tourists

lining up to take a photo of that birth certificate that was placed on the easel. now there's been a general feeling last night that the baby would be a girl. and that's perhaps why the headlines today are variations on one theme, which is, it's a boy. this one from a quote from prince charles saying, oh, boy, one's a grandpa finally. this is my favorite. normally "the sun" is s-u-n. one day today it will be spelled s-o-n in honor of the new baby. >> jim, let me ask you. both of us were incorrect. i thought it would be a girl. i was going with alexandra. we might as well take a shot at it again now that it's a boy. your with everybody else saying it's going to be george or do you have inroads on a name? >> reporter: yeah, george seems to be the punters, as they say here, or the betters' favorite. we're hearing henry, albert,

philip even, although that's a long shot. but, yeah, george seems to be the sentimental and historical favorite. seems to be the one making the most buzz. >> jim maceda live in london. let's take a look at the royal baby name odds. i guess the brits gamble even more than we do. right now george is the clubhouse leader, 2-1 odds followed by james, alexander, louis and henry. i guess for us here, louis would be interesting since louis bergdorf considers himself royalty already. the most unlikely name william and kate will pick, this is funny enough, north. 5,000 to 1 odds. i think they should be longer odds than that. people having fun with tit. retail sales expected to see a $372 million boost through the end of the summer because of the story. $133 million expected to be spent on food and alcohol for

at any point. >> that was ryan braun about a year and a half ago after major league baseball threw out his initial suspension. things have changed a little bit. mlb suspended him for the rest of the season. that means 65 games and that's worth about $3 million plus in salary. braun will not appeal the decision, which comes amid the reports of the 2011 mvp's involvement with biogenesis, the so-called anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance enhancing drugs to mlb players. they did not reveal the alleged conduct that led to the suspension. for what it means for the other mlb players, let's wake up msnbc contributor mike barnacle. thank you for getting up with us. i guess it's not a surprise braun was suspended but it's surprising that it happened on its own and before the other names were mentioned. so what does that mean for the a-rods, the nelson cruzes of the world moving forward? >> i think it was major league

baseball's intention to do most of them or nearly all of them at once. but in this case, i think they had so much evidence on ryan braun and i'm led to believe that they have as equal an amount of evidence and perhaps more evidence against alex rodriguez that they presented it to him and he chose to cut a deal. take the suspension now rather than drag it out. and the key here, i think, is the statement from michael winer, the major league baseball players association counsel in which he said last week that any player who is caught guilty beyond any -- beyond any evidence at all, that they are not going to contest it. they'll try and cut a deal. so they clearly cut a deal with ryan braun. i don't know that there's any deal to be cut with alex rodriguez, nelson cruz and a handful of other, 15 others. they'll all be suspended, i think, quite rapidly. >> now, obviously, the union not supporting this.
