we just got a note from the palace saying the parents of kate middleton could be arriving here the next 10 to 15 minutes. i'm telling you it calmed down after a kind of chaotic morning when we thought that the new prince might be seen out on the steps here of the lindo wing. that didn't happen. now it looks like there might be a visit to the royals and it's something that we haven't heard yet. so that's what we are waiting for. in the meantime, let me tell you a little bit more about what has been going on. this morning, two gun salutes were in honor of the new prince, the future king. one at green park and the other at the tower of london. no sign of baby or kate or william. we are told it might be tomorrow before we see them. there is that salute. everyone remembers the iconic pictures on the stairs behind me that was charles and diana when they first brought out prince william emerging from those doors showing him off to the
7:01 am
world for the first time. when will that happen? we don't know. what is his name? we don't know. what we know, obviously, is that he was born yesterday 4:24 p.m. london time weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. i want to bring in stick able. he is a royal watcher and one time with the press office. good to see you. >> how is it going? it's extraordinary. extraordinary. like you say 20 minutes ago, everyone was just sitting eating their sandwiches and they are very excited because something is happening. >> i wonder if it was like this 31 years ago? >> it wasn't. a lot more well-wishers and a lot of more pictures. now people are coming down. >> let's talk about the decision that is being made. you know in situations how these decisions are made, what the conversation is. now, this morning, when we first thought they might come out the skies opened up. there was a torrential rain
7:02 am
storm. i said the hairdresser is in there and she will not come out now. what kind of considerations are there, obviously, how she is feeling and how the baby is doing and when they might come out? >> william's big thing is protecting kate. always has been. he regards the extra as sort necessary evil. while a lot of the coordination is how to fit into the media the main consideration for him and therefore her is how she is feeling and if she wants to sleep a few hours i suspect that is what she will do. >> i've heard it's a luxurious suite in there and we will talk about that coming up. that is his main concern but people are thinking about other things. one of them is i think we have seen that picture of him being brought out by charles and diana about a hundred million times. that is an iconic picture. this will be an iconic picture of the future king and you want it to be right. >> absolutely. the thing that will be remembered for 20, 30, 50 years. this baby may not be king for 50 years.
7:03 am
we are looking at long time in the future as he is introduced into the world. >> i think there probably is a bittersweet moment there and have to be as well for the prince thinking about coming out here. he has seen that picture so many times and diana obviously not being here. but does the fact she raised them in a different way than royals had ever been -- here we go! here we go! we are going to go down. we are going to watch this. let's talk about what we're seeing here. >> is this the middletons? >> this is. this is the first we have known that any of the parents have been here to visit the family. >> taxi! >> there is carol and michael middleton arriving at the hospital! they have not seen their grandson yet, their first grandson. >> there they go! >> such an exciting time for
7:04 am
them but you can just imagine. >> i used to advise them a little bit. that they had no concept whatsoever about how famous they will become. and now as they go in there the whole media world goes crazy for them. >> no sign of pippa. one of the things by the way, there has been betting on is what color dress pippa will wear. this is how crazed it's become. >> when the wedding happened pippa didn't try her dress on until the day before. i was talking to the family. they had no real clue that iconic figure pippa would become. she has become one of the most famous in the world and they had no concept that was about to happen. >> i think seeing the parents brings us back to the question we were yelled at to get down and the parents came in. this is a won kate middleton brought up in a middle class family. they have become quite successful with their party business. she was brought up normally compared to william and diana
7:05 am
made it really a priority of hers that her sons would have, quote/unquote, normal experiences taking them to disney and going out with them as normal you could get when you were diana with the future king. what does that tell us about the kind of parents we think that kate and william will be? >> i think they will be extremely particular. i would used to go between the palace and media about giving william a normal childhood. he was able to go to university. i think william and kate looking for something similar. this is the era of social media. they will be able to do deals with the newspapers and media and this child is growing up in a world where everyone is a paparazzi and everybody will be following every single move that they make and i think william and kate will see it as a huge priority to him that but he will be growing up in a world completely different to the
7:06 am
relatively secluded world of william and harry. >> this couple seems to be very much in love and what attracts people. when i asked people why they stood in the rain and we interviewed team drenched out here and hoping to catch a glimpse, i said what are you doing? so many of them said it feels so good and they love each other and it makes you feel good about them which was not, sadly, the kind of household that william was brought up. >> william was an angelic child and unhappy marriage and his mother died. notice a beautiful young woman, there are always cynics in britain and people are uncomfortable about being yooverlsly happy. sun is poking out around britain and people happy about something nice. >> thank you so much for talking to us. great to see you. there has been a lot of excitement at buckingham palace and keir simmons is standing by
7:07 am
there. >> people are here. it's difficult to get a look at it at first because of the crowds crowding around. so you have to wait a little while and wait your turn, if you like. here too the queen here. the royal standard flag that indicates she is in residence in one of her pallas is flying high above buckingham palace. that means we know she is here and she got here yesterday before the announcement. of course, one of the questions being talked about here is whether or not she will be one of the members of the royal family who goes to visit william and kate and her new heir in the hospital there. so we wait to see that. we may see her leave here. that may be the first indication. >> absolutely. thank you so much, keir simmons. there is this excitement here wanting to know when they are
7:08 am
going to be able to see the future king, the brand-new baby. in the meantime, they really are as ma tern its wards go gin the lap of luxury. yesterday i talked to a mom who delivered both of her children in lindo. here is what she told me about what it's like in there. >> when you walk in there it's like walking into a very five-star hotel. >> quite posh? >> absolutely. security guards on the door. very important people rushing around looking after you. and the room that you go into, again, you have your own bed with a duvet rather than the ordinary sheets and blankets. it has curtains and a television and fridge and freezer and bathroom and your hand soaps and bathrooms and towels. it is great and it's luxury. when i had mine, my consultant said you can go home now. i said, you know what? can i say an extra couple of nights? i didn't want to leave.
7:09 am
>> but they? >> insurance company did. enough is enough. you can go. >> i presume kate can stay as long as she wants. >> she absolutely can. absolutely. >> we assume that the royal couple there is very, very comfortable and now, obviously, getting a visit from kate middleton's parents. we will be back a little while later. we are going to talk about some of the other frenzy that is going on, including what will this new child be named betses his royal highness. more on that coming up live from london. now let's send it back to richard lui. good morning. >> good morning. if we don't get to see the royal couple until tomorrow it means another day of what is the world's largest baby party there in london. see you later. thank you, chris. laguardia airport is fully reopened yesterday after a hard landing of a southwest 737. >> the whole plane just went down very quickly and that is when the door blew in. >> how hard was the jolt? >> it was -- it was a kick.
7:10 am
>> you heard the pilots go holy cow! i looked off the right side of the plane and there was just this fireball going down the runway. it was unbelievable. >> nbc kristen dahlgren is live a laguardia for us this hour. this could have been much worse. it was the nose gear, not the main gear that failed. it was at the end of the flight when fuel levels were lower so that might be some saving graces there? >> reporter: absolutely, richard. and you better believe that the passengers that we spoke to here last night knew that it could have been much worse. they were pretty relieved just to be getting off of that plane safely. only ten injuries, mostly bumps and bruises and a couple of panic attacks, totally understand ble when you look at that video and see what they went through. the investigation really just getting under way now. they have moved the plane off the runway. they have reopened laguardia airport but the ntsb looking into what happened last night. for several hours they interviewed the passengers

zimmerman, not guilty. >> reporter: the incident four days after george zimmerman was found not guilty in his second-degree murder trial. police say last wednesday an suv carrying two adults and their two children was traveling northbound on the off ramp of highway 417 at interstate 4 when the driver lost control and went off the road and the vehicle rolled over. witnesses call a 911 noted some people had already stopped to help. >> i'm here with other team rushing toward the people joot sheriff's county office said one of the good samaritans was george zimmerman. in statement the office said when a deputy arrived at the scene, two men one of whom was george zimmerman, had already helped assist the family by getting them out of the overturned vehicle. the statement said zimmerman was not a witness to the crash and left after making contact with the deputy. no injuries were reported. zimmerman's brother robert tweeted, george saw a need. he acted. our parents taught us to help, never to boast.
7:13 am
humility is george's finest trait. while the verdict has many people divided over issues of race and self-defense, zimmerman's attorney mark o'mara said he is not surprised by zimmerman's actions along the highway. >> that is just what he does. the idea that he would stop and offer aid to somebody in need in a car just makes sense. that's who he always has been. >> reporter: meanwhile on another matter, the sanford police department says it has turned over all of the evidence from the trial, including goeore zimmerman's handgun to the fbi as the justice department looks into whether there were civil rights violations in this case. >> mark potter in sanford, thank you so much. major league baseball is cracking down on a prominent player for performance-enhancing drugs. the league suspended brewer's ryan braun for the rest of the season without pay. braun will not appeal and issued a statement that read in part i realize now i have made some mistakes. i wish to apologize to anyone i

president obama heads to illinois tomorrow kicking off a white house push to focus attention on the economy with a speech at knox college. the first of three speeches this week. the president gave a preview of his jobs message last night. >> it's going to be the kickoff to what is essentially several months of us trying to get washington and the press to refocus on the economy. >> on the hill, democratic women in the house are out with an economic agenda of their own. joining me now is one of the campaign's leaders dynamic rosa who is from connecticut. a lot on your agenda here in that we expect to hear from the president as well that there are ideas that have been tried before. some might ask mere why might we

have a different outcome this time around? >> first of all, let me just say, yeah, the issue is the economy. the president is going to focus in on the economy. and look at the opportunity for education and for jobs and for those efforts that help people on the job. what leader pelosi and myself and other democratic women are focused on is what is happening to women in our economy. and today all women and most particularly unmarried women, women who are single and widowed and divorced or separated are under tremendous financial pressures. women make 77 cents on the dollar. two-thirds of women are minimum wage workers. >> which is absolutely -- >> unaffordable. all of those things are critical, so our effort is to focus in on the financial pressures that women are facing today so that it helps them and their families. >> but how is it different this time around? what is different with this
7:20 am
push? >> good question. the effort is listening to women all over the country. what we have tried to do is the issues that they focus on fall into three areas. one is pay. one is that family -- work family balance. and child care. and with regard to pay, we are looking at pay equity, increasing the minimum wage, providing educational opportunity for women's. jobs. so that they can succeed. with regard to that work family balance, if you provide a paid family a leave, that allows women to be able to take the opportunity to be with an elderly parent or a child. most people today, men and women who work in the private sector do not have one paid sick day. those help on the job. affordable care. that is a singular issue that
