80 degrees, low humidity in the northeast. not bad. but back in chicago it's 60 degrees right now. it's not going to warm up much, out of the lower 70s. we are seeing heavier rain in areas that don't need it, southeastern kansas, southern missouri, northern arkansas where we have heavy downpours right now, also across minneapolis where the rain is coming down, possibly creating early morning flight delays. we do have flash flood watches and warnings up and down the mississippi river because of the additional rain that we'll also get today. we also have the threat of stronger storms like this afternoon into this evening. just to the east of the rockies into the western plains, biggest threat would be for damaging wind gusts and also for some small hail possible, isolated tornadoes are a possibility but not really a huge threat. temperatures today, really hot down south, well above 100 degrees. cool up north, especially in and around the great lakes region. tomorrow back into the mid 80s. 90s in kansas city.

2:48 am
out and he'll be in the lineup tonight. that's what i would expect today. he will never win the appeal, i'd be shocked. it's going to make it look bad for baseball. if a-rod plays really well which is dubious, but if he does and the yankees somehow make the play-offs and he gets suspended for two years in the middle of september you'll have people screaming and yelling that's not fair, they're in the play-offs because of a-rod. baseball is in a no-win situation. they're going to let the situation play itself out, and i think there's a good chance they'll play tonight against the white sox in chicago. >> it seems, chris, everybody wants him not to play but him. is he trying to save his name or is he just trying to drag everybody down with him as much as possible? what's his motivation? >> i think right now he doesn't have any other options. i think baseball is not going to make any favorable deals with him. he figured, you know, ryan borne got away with it two years ago. mash he'll find an arbitrator that throws this stuff out, the

evidence against him. so he figures what the hell, i really don't have any other options. he knows if he cuts a deeshlgs he'll be out for couple years and gives up a lot of money. he has been straining to get back in the lineup because he's been working on his hip issue now for a long time and he's healthy. if you're a-rod, you're saying to yourself, i got nothing to lose, let's play 30, 40 games and maybe in the interim i'll get lucky and his arbitrator will do what the arbitrator did with braun and i'll get off. i think that's what a-rod is counting on. >> lit be an absolute show in chicago. coming up at the top of the hour on "morning joe," american embassies shut down for a full week. the intel that led to the decision and why some lawmakers are comparing the threat to 9/11. when we come back, we huddle
