while obama wraps up the g-20. president obama and putin, their relationship has been chilly as of late. that's at best. they were cordial enough at the outset, but an early session meant to be all about the global economy reportedly was overshadowed by pressure from russia, china and a letter from the pope to avoid strikes against syria. >> i also look forward to having an extensive conversation about the situation in syria. and i think our joint recognition that the use of chemical weapons in syria is not only a tragedy, but also a violation of international law that must be addressed. >> last night at a working dinner that stretched for more than four hours, it didn't break up until about 2:00 a.m., president obama reportedly expressed confidence in reports syria used chemical weapons and called attention to international bans on chemical weapons. meanwhile whiffs of cause and

moved into the no column according to tracking by "the washington post." if house members being tracked by the paper, more and more are solidly leaning no or against strikes altogether. i believe we have chuck todd for us in russia now. chuck, do we have any details on the late-night meeting or insight that we don't have in the morning papers about what's going on over there? >> reporter: well, we do have a couple things. first of all, as you saw, the dinner went very late. president obama didn't get back to the hotel until 2:00 a.m. local time. after the breakup between the world leaders, putin had a one-on-one meeting with the western leader. not president obama but the british prime minister david cameron. a the lot of discussion was over syria and didn't go very well. other reports about the dinner itself talked about the that the president made this case, made the same case a lot of it that

we have heard, similar to the case to members of congress and even among those around that table, half those world leaders, sympathetic to the president's case, to the evidence believing that something has to be done. as one person quoted saying, there seemed to be a lack of will, even among those leaders supportive of the president's side. it doesn't appear the president hoped to make on the international front came. bi we'll see later today when more of the world leaders speak to the press after the meetings are over. but clearly the president things are going the wrong way in washington, that's for sure. but the progress they were hoping to make on the international front didn't seem to be made as well as they thought. it's been a tough sell here for the president internationally. it it looks just like what we're seeing in washington. >> you wonder if the move toward

in the area was responsible for. the blaze that charred 370 square miles of california's sier sierra, nevada. the agency said there's no indication the hunter was involved with illegal marijuana cultivation, which a local fire chief had speculated as possible cause. the blaze now 80% contained and has cost $81 million to fight. in some cases people who have started wildfires in california have been sued to pay for costs and for damages. now to business, stocks able to post modest gains across all three major indexes. keeping a close eye on this huge government jobs report this morning. for more on that, we go to karen cho live for us in london. what do we expect in terms of the number of jobs created and the unemployment rate? >> good morning, brian. the numbers today expected in

the vicinity of 180,000 jobs to be created. the unemployment rate should remain steady at 7.4%. coming up to this significant number is the fact we had two strong jobs reports already this week from the private sector. 176,000 jobs added in august. also the weekly claims saw jobless benefits fell last week. this is such a significant data point because the fed has told us to watch the jobless number because it's going to be so important for the timing of this tapering program for its purchases of assets. in terms of what else is out there, we're looking at the corporate sphere. i'm guessing you had a bite of breakfast, hopefully yogurt wasn't hissing at you. cho baa any had to pull back yogurt tugs because it found a mold in the dairy product. hopefully yours was free because of the recall that's taken place from the company. >> they have grown so fast i don
