president obama bringing in heavy artillery to make his case for military strikes. today former secretary of state hillary clinton expected to back action at the white house. the president meanwhile, will do interviews with all major networks and will make a rare address to the country on tuesday night. he's also making the case on a personal level. president obama spent friday phoning more members of congress and he dropped in on a dinner the vice president was hosting with top republican senators last night. but even those who back a show of force say his strategy has been underwhelming at best. >> i think it's going to be very difficult for him to get votes and i think this goes back not just to the issue itself but you can't begin to build a relationship with congress for the first time when you need their support on something like this. look, a week or a week and a half ago my office reached out to the white house and said, hey, we support the strike on syria. we'll help you round up support if you need it. i haven't heard back from the white house yet. >> i wish the president had laid this out better. i wish he'd quit backing away

and well as for a money transfer firm. president obama has publicly asserted intelligence gathering is focused on stopping terrorist threats and fighting international crime. james clapper, the u.s. national intelligence director responded saying "it is not a secret that the intelligence community collects information about economic and financial matters and terrorist financing." he went on to add that the u.s. doesn't steal trade secrets from foreign companies. the disclosures caused an uproar always you might imagine in brazil and authorities are demanding more information from the united states. well, the youngest leader ever of the naacp is stepping down. he wants to spend more time with his family and also wants to become a college professor. he was named president five years ago when he was just 35. he's been credited with energizing the group's finances and fighting voter i.d. laws. in a statement al sharpen said not only was he able to revive

the naacp and raise its budget to higher heights, he joined us in the streets in real civil rights activity on the ground. from the suites to the streets, he will be missed as head of the naacp. but i am sure he will not leave us in his contribution to the struggle, end quote. jealous will step down on december 31st. no successor as of yet has been named. turn quickly right now to new york city -- the mayoral race where outgoing mayor michael bloomberg making national helds about his comments about the front runner. he described bill de blasio's campaign tactics as class warfare and racist. when asked to classify his comments he said "well, no, no, i mean he's making an appeal e using his family to gain support. i think it's pretty obvious to anyone watching what he's been doing. i do not think he himself is racist. it's comparable to me pointing out i'm jewish and attracting the jewish vote." in a de blasio ad he shows his

african-american wife and 16-year-old son. he responded calling bloomberg's comments, quote, inappropriate." according to an nbc for new york, "wall street journal" and mar marist poll he is ahead. the third largest wildfire in the history of california burning through funds and no end in sight. it cost more than $89 million to fight. the price tag could increase by up to 30 times more once the fire is put out. that's a lot of money. now in its fourth week the fire about 80% contained, there are more than 3,400 people still fighting the fire. well, pretty much every parent's nightmare came true at a connecticut festival. 13 children were injured at the norwalk oyster festival when a carnival ride at a fair in southern connecticut malfunctioned sending a group of

kids literally straight to the ground. the swing ride apparently lost power while the children were airborne in their swings. the ride continued spinning even as the breakdown occurred. we can tell you most of the injured at the scene were treated and released though some were more seriously hurt and taken to area hospitals. here is some reaction from the scene of the three-day festival. i don't know. do we have that? i think we do not. they did keep the festival open to the public but all the carnival rides were shut down for an inspection by the state fire marshal. growing questions about diana nyad's swim and if she cheated. the 64-year-old is i guess you could call it hot water for using a special mask and body suit to protect her from jellyfish stings. critics say that violated the quote english channel rules. the other issue was swimming experts suspect nyad got inside the boat following her and held on to it to pick up speed.

nyad's team denies she cheated and says she never promised to follow english channel rules -- i'll point out she was very transparent about the mask. they talked about it the whole time. she is the first person to swim from cuba to florida without a shark cage and as we mentioned 64 years old. i meaning let's not take too much away from this woman pretty amazing. let's turn to business. u.s. markets on track for a higher open to today's trading day after the jobs report that dow slightly lower. s&p and nasdaq were just a touch in the green. a few headlines to watch about. verizon wireless is challenging the net neutrality laws in a d.c. court today. in a report in "the wall street journal" the internet provider claims the fcc is overstepping its duties by enforcing the equal treatment of traffic on the internet. verizon wants to find new ways to charge more money for different traffic and prioritize some internet services and adjust fees, say, for data heavy web traffic like video. the fcc says that would

undernine the openness of the internet. also neiman-marcus negotiating a $6 billion sale. a group of investors including the canada pension plan, believe it or not is reportedly in talks with the luxury retailer. neiman-marcus operates 41 stores with that name on it as well as others under the brands bergdorf goodman and last call. they were talking about possibly going public so a sale would take that off the table. all right. gossip addicts out there beware. "people" magazine changing the way it charges you. "the new york times" reports its 3.5 million subscribers will now have an option to continue paying 112 bucks a year, right, you can either get the print or the digital edition but if you want both it's an extra 20 so if you want to look at it on your ipad or paper, 132 bucks for the year. get your regular checkups at the dentist's office and usually you're fine. they're offering $200 a year package that has access to extra
