and the president also joking if and when it becomes successful, folks on the other side are going to be calling it by another name. it seems as if we saw a real deliberate shift in strategy, no? >> reporter: yeah, i think what we're seeing is that -- what came out of chuck's interview yesterday, craig, and a lot of today was this whole idea of an apology, that the president was apologizing for the health care law. that's the way the gop was spinning it. by coming out and having the full throated defense by saying this is a good law and we still very much believe in it and need, here are the benefits of it and putting that forward, it kind of shifts the narrative from the apology for the law which is being spun if you didn't do that outright, apologized for the folks with individuals policies who got -- weren't able to keep them. it's a strategy that is intentional and being done to control the narrative better into the weekend. and as the president moves on

now, he's going down to south florida, miami to do fund raising and expected to issue that message privately with concerned donors about this law. >> with the president in new orleans, thank you, sir. right now wall street reacting to jobs numbers with hefty gains. the dow up 97, s&p 17 and nasdaq up 57. the jobs numbers for those who might be following today, 4,000 jobs created in november. joining me to talk about those numbers, and what they do not necessarily mean, columnist zachary carabell. good to see you. >> good to see you. >> 204,000 jobs. there are folks that are saying the numbers themselves may be a little off. what do you make of that? >> we had a jobs report a few weeks ago because we didn't have

one in the beginning of october because the government was shutdown and staff was furloughed. this is an odd report statistically. there's a really big headline number bigger than many months, 200,000 people. it's also true that the labor force participation meaning the number of people actively looking for or having jobs at any given point shrunk by 700,000 people statistically to the lowest level since the late 1970s. more people getting jobs and increasingly more people not a part of the workforce. at some point, even though i recognize the utility of a monthly number that gives us the opportunity to have a conversation and americans, we're really going to have to talk about the fact it doesn't necessarily matter in it is 6.5 or 8.5, the jobs created are low paying health care services and bartenders and waiters and

waitresses, and retail jobs seasonal, they pay really badly. we don't have that conversation. we create jobs good, no jobs bad. it's no so simple. >> we're talking about the wrong things. >> it's also true thgs a decent report. we should have a moment of recognizing you can understand and acknowledge strengths in the system without it simultaneously being a slap in the face to those not doing well. we need to have more balance how we discuss these challenges because it is equally true there are people doing well working hard and it thriving and there are people working hard and not thriving. >> the labor department also said that based on the numbers, there was little to no impact at all on these jobs numbers as a result of the government shutdown. >> there is this category in the report about temporarily unemployed. which is a whole other thing, meaning i guess it means you were briefly unemployed because you were reemployed. if you think about hours being

cut, we heard about the republicans accusing the health care law will lead to fewer hours worked which means you'll still be fully employed but then working 30 hours a week instead of 35. this monthly report misses that kind of granularity but what are you earning, how many hours working? what are your prospects? that is the conversation we need to be having. >> i do want to touch on the thing that lots of folks we've been talking about, the stock, at last check before i came out here, it was down roughly $2 on the day after surging yesterday. how concerned at all should people be who bought stock yesterday? at what point do you think folks waiting on the sidelines to get in should get in? >> at this point quite a while. we're all tweeting. we got going publicly here on the twitter side. it probably does linked in and

others to find mobility and education. that's a different statement than go out and buy shares of the company right now. it went up 90%, 80% -- >> you think four or five years from now it will be a profitable -- >> i think it's a really really interesting dynamic. i wouldn't recommend buying but think about employment. >> i always enjoy your insight, especially when you introduce words like granularity. be well, my friend. >> see you soon. >> the president heads to miami, kathleen sebelius is also on the road today. earlier today in atlanta, sebelius acknowledged problems once again with the affordable care act's online marketplace without backing down. >> we have had inexcusable technology problems with healthcare.gov. we are making progress towards fixing them but the new law is more than a website.

>> meanwhile, back in washington, a group of republican senators, there they are, calling for sebelius to be fired. all the way to the gulf coast the president's staff once again assuring reporters quote, nothing has changed. nothing has changed in the president's full confidence and secretary sebelius' ability. the comments come on the heels of that exclusive interview that president obama gave chuck todd late thursday. he took blame for the website's failures and also apologized to americans whose insurance has been canceled. >> still the right person to do it? >> ultimately the buck stops with me. i'm the president. this is my team. if it's not working, it's my job to get it fixed. i am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me. we got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and that we're going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a

tough position as a consequence of this. >> jennifer covers health care for politico. good to see you. let's talk about kathleen sebelius here. president obama once again saying he is sticking by her and she's done a great job of setting up the insurance marketplace. she is is going to be hitting the road promote beingiing obam. even if the republican senators got their wish and the president bagged her, there's little to no chance anyone else gets confirmed for that position. >> right, that's the strongest thing secretary sebelius has going for her right now. no one else would get through the senate. any secretary that he would appoint to health and human services would be implementing obama care and republicans in the senate don't like it. they are unlikely to confirm her. another factor is, i don't know who else would want her job right now. he's in a pretty tough spot. i think she's going to stick with. she's been there for four years

and gotten the early parts of the law off the ground. there's no reason to think she's going to abandon it now when she's in trouble. >> what about this november 30th deadline? the president says he's confident that a majority of americans will be able to use it successfully by the end of the month. how likely is it looking that the website is going to be up to anyone's standards by then? >> you know, they keep sticking with november 30th and they really locked themselves down. it needs to be working by thanksgiving when people are at home and talking with families around the table. that's -- they are hoping by then when families are having the conversations that they can go to the website and sign on. they are not very open about what they are working on and what kind of progress they are making. but they keep sticking with november 30th and see that day if it's working. >> what if it isn't ready? is harry reid going to be able to hold back the red state democrats up for re-election who want to extend the enrollment

deadline and allow people to keep their existing plans? >> it's going to be tough. those democratic senators from the red states are going to be in a tight spot and they are going to want to vote and go home and say this is bad, you voted to extend the deadlines or delay the penalty. at that point it's going to be hard to see how he doesn't allow them to cast some kind of vote. if it's december 1st and people can't sign up, that means they might lose their coverage on january 1st when presumably plans will expire and they need a new one on january 1st. >> thank you and have a good weekend. folks, it's been called one of the strongest storms ever to make landfall. this afternoon we're getting dramatic new pictures of the destruction that a massive typhoon has already created in the philippines. roofs of homes were torn off by the strong winds, which at one point reached 195 miles per hour. according to local media

reports, four people have died so far. it's still to soon to tell the full extent of the damage because it's night time there right now and ang us walker is it in manila with the very latest. >> reporter: craig, this is the main separation center of the philippines red cross here in manila. and staff are working through the night trying to assess the full scale of the damage done. many of the worst affected areas are still cut off, power and communication severely disrupted. one province remains completely cut off. no one knows the full picture as it is at the moment. they are making calls to the coast guard, to local politicians trying to get as much information as possible. they are also gathering relief supplies and tomorrow a convoy will leave from here to try to get to some of the areas that most need aid and assistance. almost a million people have been forced to flee their homes. 12 million people were in the path of this huge storm with

gusts over 200 miles per hour. many homes have been destroyed and many coastal areas will be worse damaged. the government had put in place massive evacuation operations in advance of the super typhoon making landfall. and that has undoubtedly saved lives. the death toll mercy any relatively low, although it is expected to rise. the typhoon itself is now downgraded and missed the capital and now heading off to vietnam whereas expected to make landfall there on sunday. back to you. >> up next, new trouble for toronto's embattled mayor, once again all caught on camera. >> i need [ bleep ] by tuesday. >> ten minutes. -- shows an enraged rob ford making death threats in a violent rant that has come to

rob ford's attorney says the mayor is considering going to rehab but cautions he is still deciding precisely what his step will be. this comes after a video surfaced showing the mayor in a violent profanity laced tirade, the video obtained by the toronto star contains graphic language. >> he dies or idy. his office yesterday. >> it's extremely embarrassing. the whole world is going to see it. i don't have a problem with that but it is extremely embarrassing. obviously i was extremely, extremely, extremely -- >> that apology was the second one he has had to make this week. you'll recall on tuesday he admitted to smoking crack in a drunken stupor. ron mott joins me live now. we have reports that city council members may try to oust ford if he doesn't go on his own. what more can you tell us about those reports? >> reporter: hey, there, craig. one council member in particular says that if the mayor won't leave, they are going to have to show him the door. there's a movement afoot to see in the government here in ontario will step in. they don't seem to get clined to get involved. they are looking at writing new

legislation to give them the power to force the mayor for office. in fact, one gentleman just stopped by the camera position, has he quit yet? and the answer is not as of now. >> what are family members saying about all of this? >> reporter: there seems to be a split now because as you know, his brother doug is a counselor in toronto. on the air he says he thinks it may not be a bad idea for his brother to take a couple weeks off from the job to get his life in orders and come back when he's healthier. last night his mother and sister said they don't believe he needs to go away from the job to get his life together. his mother had a conversation about trying to take care of himself and get his weight off. he's listening to mom in some regard. a little while ago the mayor stepped out with that cameras there, went down to the ate rea up and stood in line and got a

flu shot. he's got a lot to deal with here going forward. >> really quickly, before i let you get out. there's talk of course that that video that reportedly shows the mayor smoking crack. there's this new video we're seeing that has come to light. as the mayor or any of his staffers told you guys they are to be on the alert perhaps. have we seen all there is to see of mayor ford on camera? >> reporter: there are a lot of rumors swirling in a story like this. there are rumors that there are perhaps more tapes that may or may not be released. the crack video, the lawyer for one of the gentleman involved in an extortion case is trying to get the video released publicly because he thinks it will help his client. we're expecting the court to make some decision on that perhaps on tuesday so it's going to be a long weekend here for mayor ford and the city trying to get this mess behind them.

statement it was more than just v verbal abuse and bullying, there was actually a case of a physical attack. >> we're now hearing jonathan martin's side. his lawyer released a statement that says in part, jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing. for the entire season and a half he was with the dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the hara harassme harassment. this is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying. despite these efforts, the taunting continued. and for the first time, a new claim, that jonathan entoured a malicious physical attack on him by a teammate. the teammates have expressed near universal support for alleged tormenter, richie incognito. >> people need to stand off. there's a lot more questions

about richie and lot more answers and support for richie. >> reporter: as the investigation gets under way, documents have surfaced alleging incognito displayed inappropriate behavior towards a female volunteer at a dolphins golf tournament a year and a half ago. according to aventura florida, police department, that woman claimed incognito proceeded to lean up against her butttoks, as if dancing. he was not arrested or charged in the incident. martin's new claim of an attack comes on the heels of an nbc sports report that jeff ireland advised the best way for martin to confront the bullying was by fighting back. >> he told martin's agent that he should physically confront richie incognito and ireland specifically said that martin should punch incognito in order to solve this problem. >> reporter: the kdolphins sayig

it's done. >> there are factors in new jersey that are individual to that race. >> is that statement on the website true or is it false? >> sir, i think the statement -- >> or is it false, madam secretary? >> even those it's a small percentage of folks who may be disadvantaged, it means a lot to them and scary to them. and i am sorry. >> let's bring in senior political editor mark murray, we talked about the health care debacle and the limited timeline to get things fixed. how do you see things playing out as the clock ticks towards the deadline. >> the obama administration, they have to move heaven and earth and been working 24/7 to make sure it's fixed for a vast majority of users. that november 30th, craig, is three weeks away. so they don't really have a whole lot of time. it was instructive on president obama's interview, he had almost

two problems with the health care law. the one was the website and the statement that if you liked your plan you could keep it and turned out that wasn't true. president obama by having the interview with chauck todd o pol guysing and focusing all issues on the website. >> the president was asked about a report that his 2012 campaign poll tested actually dumping america's happy warrior, vice president joe biden in favor of hillary clinton. this is what president obama said. >> if they had asked me, i would have said there is no way that i'm not running again with joe biden because i genuinely believe he has been one of the best vice presidents in our history. >> the authors of "double down" say when vice president biden was tested against hillary clinton, there wasn't much of a

difference. mark, if hillary clinton had tested much better, than joe biden, what would have happened then? >> craig, i'm still convinced that biden would have been on the ticket. even if hillary clinton tested better, i think it would have sent signals of panic that president obama was dumping biden for hillary clinton. the end of the day, the person on the vice presidential ticket doesn't matter all that much. that person can lose you the race but they rarely win it for you. the sign that somehow that would have been a big sign to everyone that team obama was behind and needed to do something very major to shake things up. president obama had a four-point national win over romney and very decisive victory in the electoral college. he didn't need that at all. and i think they probably made the right calculation, even if the polls showed hillary clinton would have tested much more positively. >> i'm waiting to hear what joe biden says about all of this. i'm sure it will be quite the

sound bite. let's look forward to next week quickly. what do you see on the political horizon? >> i have a feeling we're going to continue to talk about health care. next week we're supposed to get the early enrollment numbers, people who already bought their insurance. we're going to be able to see how many people have signed up as the white house likes to point out, they expect more people to come in december and january and why they need the website up and operational. >> have a good weekend, sir. >> you too. >> developing right now, there's speculation that a deal with iran may be close, a deal over that country's nuclear program, fueling that speculation, secretary of state john kerry, cutting short a tour of the middle east today to head to geneva, switzerland, he joined the foreign minister of iran and it's expected in return for a deal, the united states would ease some sanctions against iran, something president obama talked about during that exclusive interview with chuck

todd. >> the negotiations taking place not about easing sanctions, the negotiations taking place are about how iran begins to meet its international obligations and provides assurances not just to us but entire world. if it turned out during the course of the six months trying to resolve these big issues that they are backing out of the door and not willing to go forward and finish the job of giving us assurances involving a nuclear weapon. we can crank that dial back up. >> the iranian capital from tehran, joins us now from geneva. what can you tell us? >> there's been a flurry of activity here today as secretary kerry arrived here. it was unexpected as you said but the makings of a deal going on here, they wouldn't have come here and also joined by ministers from six major world

powers. we're even hearing the chinese may show up here after a late night flight tonight. things have definitely happening. foreign ministers, told nbc news yesterday that the perimeters of the deal, the first step to the deal would be signed here this weekend. this was also by a senior white house official who also told us these comments yesterday. these are the most positive signs we've seen for a deal and it also shows the sign of a foreign relationship between the u.s. and iran after 34 years and some sort of resolution to this 10-year nuclear soundoff. it's not going to be easy whatsoever. john kerry arrived and said there are major differences and trying to narrow that gap. there's no guarantee they'll be able to do that. it's ended up getting stopped and things had gotten worse.

so everybody is hoping that doesn't happen here and that's why all of the allegations for the major powers are here. what kind of agreement they can reach, we don't know yet. they are being tight lipped about the details and not telling us what's on the table but saying they can offer iran minor sanctions in order to iran to curb some aspects of the nuclear program. the iranian media have been very critical over these talks. the iranian journalists here saying that anything short of completely lifting iranian sanctions and acknowledging enrichment would be worthless. also, a senior cleric said that iran should not accept any deal. it's going to be an uphill struggle. >> how is the talk of a deal and contours of a deal starting to take shape, how is all of this being received in israel? >> sorry, craig, i didn't hear you? >> how is all of this being received in israel?

what are they saying about this in israel? what is netanyahu saying about all of this? >> reporter: they are not happy at all. netanyahu says he has gotten the deal of the century for free and it will allow them to forge ahead with the nuclear program and pull the wool over the eyes of the western community. they are extremely worried about this. i don't think there's a lot they can do about this. a lot of people say, you've got to sit back and let this happen and have faith in your american partners. but the israelis are extremely upset about this. this is not the outcome they wanted. they thought the lifting of any sanctions would essentially break down the whole thing and get iran to do what they wanted to do. israel is not happy at all. craig? >> keeping us up to speed on what's happening with regard to the talks between this country and iran. ali, keep us posted, sir. >> demanding justice for a woman shot and killed while looking for help after a car accident,

bad nchininformation on the int. hypoallergenic pets and restricting foods from young children and claims with people that egg allergies should not get flu shots. he is analer gist at children's hospital and joins me now to separate allergy fact from fiction. let's start with gluten. because this is on the mind for folks watching and listen. we've seen a huge rise in the market for gluten free products in the past few years. many people swear they feel much better when they cut gluten from the diet. you contend there's no such thing as a gluten allergy. explain. >> thank you for having me. before we get into gluten, let's talk about food allergy, this is where misperception and misunderstanding comes into play. we view an allergy to a food as an immediate onset reproducible occurrence that happens with

every ingestion of that food, typically happens within minutes, hives and swelling and difficulty breathing and difficulty swallowing or an flax is. there is people who get sick when they eat gluten but this boils down to three different types of disorders that are well supported by the evidence. first is something called celiac disease, quite common, about 1 in 133 people. these film form an autoimmune reaction to gluten when they ingest it. it causes inflammation through the tract and rest of the body. the other is a nonceliac gluten sensitivity. people may feel bloating, d diarrh diarrhea, con city pags. there's no objective sign or symptom to solidify or tests to prove you have this disorder. the only way to tell is by taking it out of your diet and seeing how you feel. >> i want to move on to another

guy who gets fired said he was talking about the illinois law that requires gun owners to undergo 16 hours of training before obtaining a concealed weapons permit. is that what set off the readers? >> yeah, in terms of the gun control measures that you could advocate for, it was as mild as you can imagine. the way he framed it in the context of there are limits that apply to the second amendment, ones we already recognize, that frame is what promoted the reaction. >> statement of fact. >> absolutely. in fact, a lot of the outcry it was issued in response to that, clearly didn't even read the article because he negated the arguments represented against him in the article itself. because it is just crossing this line that was unacceptable, the reaction was furious. >> in the open apology to goouns and ammo readers, he wrote this in part, i made a mistake by publishing the column.

i thought it would generate a healthy exchange of ideas on gun rights. i miscalculated, pure and simple. >> that's bizarre. the publisher would apologize for publishing an article to get folks talking about a topic that would seem to be top of mind to all folks who pick up that magazine. >> this magazine has a circulation as of last august, 400,000, very widely read magazine. the question is prompts, if you can't have a conversation about tiny incremental changes to the second amendment with a readership that large, where can you have that conversation? >> this speaks volumes about who we have become as a country, collectively. you can't even have a conversations in magazines that appear to lean a certain -- you can't even challenge certain ideas without fear of reproach and termination? >> sure, guns and ammo had every right to take the actions it did and say, okay you're fired and
