a lot of the delays and cancellations already on the board. we want to go over to check with bill karins standing by. bill, this is a major impact coming off the holiday weekend for a lot of people thinking they were getting back to work today. >> three day weekend and parents scrambling what to do with kids. some schools are already canceled. early dismissals on the east coast. a lot of people won't have school tomorrow. as far as travel goes right now, the worst of it is in chicago. this lake effect band is right over the top of the city. wind chills minus 18 with heavy snow in chicago. so keep in mind there is what it looks like in chicago right now. it's a cold, cold snow. it's blowing all over the place, too. so you can see everyone's off the roads at this hour 4:30 local time. indianapolis, two inches on the ground. a coating in st. louis. i-70 is snow covered. the storm will get stronger as the day goes on. that's why the highest totals will be found right on i-95. this is a big city special with winter storm warnings from d.c. to richmond all the way up to

boston. blizzard warnings out of cape cod. heaviest snow, 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. and tomorrow morning when you try to clean up from this wind chill zero to minus 20, trying to shovel tonight if you can. i know it will be cold. a lot better than early tomorrow morning. again, the highest totals from d.c. right up along the coast. it doesn't go far to the north. central and northern new england not really getting the snowstorm. it is southern new england. the highest totals, cape cod and long island. boston, new york, philly, baltimore, d.c. 6 to 10 widespread. someone will get possibly up to a foot of snow. if i had to pick one city, philadelphia has a better chance of getting higher. >> and is this different than the snow we've seen before? >> this is a light powdery snow. it will be so cold wednesday. >> stay ahead of it if you can. >> all right, thanks so much. we turn to governor chris christie. he is set to be sworn in to a second term today. the tone is different than when he was elected weeks ago. the latest flack, he is accused

of trying to muscle a land deal at the governor's request. dawn zimmer says the second highest officer threatened to cut off sandy funding last may unless she agreed to a new development in hoboken. she pushed back accusing the mayor of misrepresenting their conversation. >> mayor zimmer's version of our conversation in may of 2013 is not only false but is illogical and does not withstand scrutiny when all of the facts are examined. standing in union beach as we are today with some of the mayors whose towns were devastated by sand y, and also being a sandy victim myself, makes the mayor's allegations

intimidation resurfaced against the governor yesterday. olympian sprinter said he was slated to become new jersey's youth fitness ambassador. he claims the governor killed that job when he decided to run for state senate. what followed is a legal battle over his residency in new jersey. a judge ruled in his favor. the attorney general at the time overruled the judge. lewis said christie himself called at one point to dissuade him from running adding, i felt like he was trying to intimidate me, absolutely, but i definitely didn't feel intimidated. everyone is calling governor christie as a bully. i see it more as someone who is insecure. he's governor now and has got the power. at the time the governor's office disputed the claims and beyond the garden state, there appears to be a growing political toll for governor christie. his favorable score has fallen two points in a new pugh poll, his unfavorable rating doubled from this time last year. as far as the george washington

bridge scandal, 32% believe the governor's explanation of what happened, 58% said they did not. hanging in the balance are his presidential ambitions. asked by yahoo if he's better prepared now, he said yeah, i'm readier, if that's a word. he said, i will learn things from this i know i will. i don't know exactly what it is yet but i'll learn from it. when i get the whole story and try to understand what's going on here, i'm going to learn things. for the second straight day, there are new concerns about security for the winter olympics in sochi, russia. nbc news learned authorities are searching for up to four black widow who's may be plotting attacks. wanted posters are posted around sochi for one woman who may be there right now. the 22-year-old was married to an islamic extremist killed by russian forces last year. officials say she may be looking to avenge his death. a warning comes one day after video emerged of two islamic militants promising to carry out attacks. and the pentagon told russia it

would send military planes and ships to help with security preparations. a gathering of world powers looking to put an end to syria's civil war will begin tomorrow. after a last minute controversy put that conference in a lot of doubt. the united nations disinvited iran from the talks after rubble groups threatened to walk away entirely. the u.s. and other western nations had voices of protest. iran is one of the main military and financial supporters of the assad regime. the united states and european nations struggled with how to weaken the syrian government without getting directly involved in that conflict. more than 100,000 syrians have been killed since the fighting began three years ago. and millions are taking refuge in neighboring countries. for now, iran's role in the syrian crisis will have no impact on the nuclear deal with the united states. tehran suspended part of the uranium enrich. program. as a result, the u.s. and other european nations have begun loosening economic sanctions on the country.

both sides are hoping that this short term deal will result in a more permanent solution to iran's nuclear ambitions. in the u.s., four people are dead and at least 18 more injured in two separate explosions in the plains. in omaha, nebraska, witnesses heard a loud bang and then a blast at a feed plant. part of a building collapsed and burst into flames. as family members searched for loved ones, one woman received a text from her fiance. >> john sent me a text saying i love you. i'm trapped. and that was it. i thought he was kidding. he hasn't answered me back. he came back and said let's go. >> three hours later, she learned he was alive but with broken ribs and deflated lung. the omaha company has been fined twice in the past for safety violations. now later in the day, two more people died when a furnace exploded at ed in a facility in oklahoma city. now we move on to business. wall street is prepping for the fed to make the second cut to the stimulus program in six

weeks. this could come as early as next week during ben bernanke's final policy meeting. we're live from our headquarters over there at cnbc. jackie, explain. what can we xpeexpect? >> they could trim the program by $10 billion to about $65 billion when it meets next week. "the wall street journal" reporting that the move comes in the wake of last month's disappointing jobs report. but that hasn't exactly curtailed the fed's belief that the economy will post solid growth this year. now the fed has been buying treasury bonds and mortgages in an effort to kind of drive down interest rates and spur some spending, hiring, and invest. . another story that is really interesting this morning, the global wealth gap continuing to widen. a new report by oxfam finding that the world's 8 arichest people control $1.6 trillion of the world's wealth. that is as much as the poorest half of the population combined. they're concerned this is fueling political instability

and driving up social tensions. the group is calling on attendees at this week's world economic forum in switzerland to tackle the problem of head on by pledging not to dodge taxes or use their wealth for political favors. thomas? >> fill us in on this steal from telecom. what company is trying to get more companies to come over? >> it's verizon. they're the latest one. launching a new version of the share everything plan. $20 cheaper. so it is $60 a month. the plan coming with just 250 megabytes of data which verizon says is aimed at people who don't really need that much data or still sort of using the basic cell phones. verizon letting customers trade in their phones for a new one just 30 days after 30 days instead of every six months. there is a catch. the customers are still on the hook for 50% of the phones retail price. sometimes that can be a lot. >> thanks so much. a good deal for those who read the fine print. there was a special wakeup call in space.
