coming overseas where at least three protesters are dead in ukraine. >> that company's capital is boiling over with political unrest. the images have been stunbling. last night the streets erupted in violence as protesters hurled burning tires. now, earlier in the day, police issued tear gas and rubber bullets. the demonstrators responded with molotov cocktails, truly one of the most iconic images from this raid is this, an orthodox priest standing in the middle of the chaos cross in hand. now, opposition leaders have issued ukraine's president an ultimatum, hold elections or face an attack in the capital. joining me right now on set is nbc news foreign correspondent. ukraine's president has given a signal there is room to talk here, but how much time can they waste? afford to waste as the clash seems to be more serious. >> these talks seem to be going on a while. they have had talks with the

opposition, the opposition has been critical of the president saying his intentions haven't been good. he hasn't been holding the talks with syria's plans. they think the early elections are falling on dever eaf ears. >> i want you to stand by. i want to fill everybody in on this other story. we knew the syrian peace talks if switzerland would not be easy. there is hope going forward. it is dim after a really rough first day. syrian government accused them of evil and being in a league with israel. the open six accused bashar al-assad of murdering his own people. secretary of state john kerry made it clear syria's interim president would not a a part of the country. >> bashar assad will not be a part of that interim government. there is no way, no way possible in the imagination that the man who has led the brutal response to his own people could regain

the legitimacy of the government. >> syria's foreign minister replied saying no one, mr. kerry, has the right to provide legitimacy except for the syrian people. yesterday we told you of the revelation of the photos showing the torture and death of syrians at the hand of the government t. new york times reporting the u.s. state department was aware of the photos as far back as november. officials say the u.s. did not act because they cannot authenticate them without the digital files. we kept you around because we want to talk about this it was a really long day for secretary kerry and again rough, but there was a sheer significance because of this meeting and these talks of the photos, they are shocking. >> well, you know, here's the irony of the photos, a lot of us covering syria know these atrocities have been happening. there is enough everyday videnc has been happening. this law firm in london raises

yorkers, you can find refugee loving people and great food in looch in louisiana. governor cuomo says his comments were taken out of context and he was referring only to political candidates. today, virginia's attorney general will begin a push to strike down the state's ban on marriage equality. democrat mark herring on the job just two weeks says he wants to put the commonwealth on quote the right side of the law and history. he is expected to file a brief supporting the lawsuit that challenges the ban on same-sex marriage. now the impendingified in virginia follows recent rulesings in utah, they say the marriage amendments violated the constitution. a mexican national walls executed overnight in texas, despite concerns it would increase dip lo pattic tensions between the u.s. and mexico. edward tomaio, less than three hours before the warrant expired. tamayo was convicted of killing a houston police officer in 1994 after shooting him three times
