office would no longer defend virginia's ban on gay marriage. elections have consequences. sometimes really, really blunt consequences. . good morning, everybody. a massive mashup of cars and trucks along an icy indiana highway kills three. an investigation is underway. drug money, america's attorney general is about to reverse decades old bank laws created to prevent money laundering by drug dealers. >> driver attacked. a crazed passenger attacks a bus driver while attempting to attack the massive coach. >> and thrill seekers using kites to make snowmobiles fly. and a camera shooting at 35 pictures a minute looks like this. >> whiteout conditions lead to a

pileup. these are the dramatic pictures from i-94 in michigan city, indiana. that is 60 mile from chicago where at least three people were killed and more than 20 injured. one critically. officials say it went from sunshine to snow then absolute zero visibility causing cars to slam into each other. the jaws of life had to be brought in to rescue five people. one person was trapped for hours before crews could come to the rescue. some lanes were closed overnight as crews cleared the wreckage. an investigation could take several weeks. a big change to tell you about for banks. they are about to start handling money from legal marijuana despite current rules to stop money laundering. attorney general eric holder says new rules will soon make it easier for banks to take money from legal marijuana sellers even though tough regulations now exist to prevent banks from handling proceeds from pot sales. at the university of virginia, holder indicated new rules would

help pat retailers in colorado and washington along with medical medicarijuana stores. so many banks have declined to open accounts for pot dealers because it could open them up to criminal charges for taking money from drug dealers. >> well, things have just gotten real for justin bieber. he just got out of jail it ended with an appearance before a judge. now the pop star faces a dui charge that could mean a license suspension, fine, and possible jail time. jay gray has the story. >> reporter: fans and media gathers around the beach front villa hoping for a glimpse of justin bieber hours after he climbed on top of an suv and waved to cameras after walking out of the miami-dade jail. officers stopped the pop star just after 4:00 in the morning

when he was racing a lamborghini through a residential neighborhood. >> he was belligerent and using choice words questioning why he was being stopped. officers said they smelled alcohol inside the vehicle and that elater admitted to drinking, smoking marijuana, and taking prescription medication before the incident. he faces charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license. a friend, singer was also arrested, charged with driving under the influence. he was allegedly racing bieber at the time in a red ferrari. >> the first case this afternoon is justin bieber. >> both bieber and sharif were released after posting bail. this is indications this is not his first time in the fast lane. there are numerous reports of him driving fast and reckless will you through his exclusive neighborhood outside of los angeles. the same community investigators were called to earlier this month after accusations he egged a neighbor's home. no charges have been filed in

card breeches after discovering 20 hack area tacks in the past year involved in the same software used against target. roiter sent out a report detailing risks by malwear that affect cash registers and card swipe machines. a propane shortage is affecting millions this week. prices have gone up $5 a gallon. a pipeline disruption made the situation worse. >> bad timing for that. a man allegedly under the influence of drugs attacked the driver of a greyhound bus running the vehicle off the road. the suspect yelled i'm going to flip this bus before repeatedly hitting the driver in the face. that caused the bus to head to on coming traffic. other passengers wrestled control away from the man and stopped the bus. more than 20 people were injured, none seriously. virginia's new attorney general decided to join a lawsuit against the state's ban on gay marriage.

"enough of that nonsense." new this morning on msnbc.com, conservative author hit with federal charges. he will be arraigned in court today accuse the of directing $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions into 2012 new york senate race. yes, new york senate race. his lawyer says there was never a corrupt agreement of any kind though. a majority of americans see a growing wealth gap between the rich and the poor. a new pugh/usa today poll finds two-thirds of americans believe it's grown in the past decade. but the fix depends on your party. 90% of democrats say the government should do a lot or some to reduce the gap. compared with only 45% of republicans. texas governor rick perry says he is down with the decriminalization of pot. he says he started to introduce alternative drug courts. they will provide treatment and softer penalties for minor drug offenses. but he still opposed to

that's right. >> and there you have it. that's your morning dish of scrambled politics. joining me now for our first look at politics from washington, reporter ken sorilli. happy friday. >> happy friday. thanks for having me. >> okay, we have to start with former arkansas governor mike huckabee. you knew it was coming. he is saying uncle sugar has to provide birth control because women can't control their preproductive system without the help of the government? he says democrats are insulting women with this thinking. but many would fiercely argue that huckabee is the one being offensive here. >> yeah. you know, he sounds like a conservative shock jock. actually, that's what his day job is right now. there are some people are wondering whether he'll run for president in 2016. but i got to make a point here and that is that more than a year ago if you think back the republican establish. and leadership came out and said that they were going to try a

rebranding effort after the 2012 electi election. but comments like that are ammunition to critics that perhaps those changes were nothing more than a marketing ploy. and already we've seen democrats question us. it's one thing, betty, to question obamacare. but it's another thing to use that rhetoric. >> yes. it's interesting rebranding if this is what it entails. if the gop is trying to dispel a war on women, did huckabee hurt all of those efforts? >> well, you know, republicans say that they're fighting a war for women. but, you know, i think that just yesterday representative kathy morris-rogers was announced she's the top republican in the house. she's going to be giving the republican response to the state of the union address. obviously, we've seen women like senators kelly aot and susan collins really make their mark in the senate. so, you know, i think that there really is a divide in the republican party, perhaps, with which approach to follow.
