a ring of steel around the games. this is "way too early." hey there, everybody. hope you had a great weekend. good morning, i'm thomas roberts. it is monday, january 27th. welcome to "way too early." the show where tailor swift's disappointment gets higher billing than the cruise ship. we start off with the grammys. daft punk took home album of the year, record of the year, and best pop performance. they also got best helmet award of the night. some of the other big winners, lorde won for best performance. macklemore and ryan lewis came away as winners. we have this mass on stage wedding that took place. we turn now to the news for you this monday morning. senator rand paul is trying to

reframe the context of the war on women and on "meet the press" he argued the narrative had been congress c concocted by americans. he took a shot at former president bill clinton. >> one of the workplace laws and rules that i think are good is that bosses shouldn't prey on young interns in their office, and i think really the media seems to have given president clinton a pass on this. he took advantage of a girl that was 20 years old and an intern in his office. there is no excuse for that, and that is predatory behavior. it should be something we shouldn't want to associate with people who would take advantage of a young girl in his office. this isn't having an affair. i mean, this isn't me saying oh, he's had an affair, we shouldn't talk to him. someone who takes advantage of a young girl in their office? i mean, really. and then they have the gal to stand up and say republicans are having a war on women. >> so "the new york times"

skries senator paul's tight roam rope as a mission that runs in the family. and also one that has drawn its fair share of criticism. ted cruz has described your strident libertarian nimp of your father as an issue that will always be a shadow over anything you try to do. >> you know, i think one of the things, and, you know, don't be trashing my dad too much. that's my dad, you know? but the thing is, is i would say that my dad was extraordinary in washington and then being genuine, being really liked by people on both sides. i would say i'm proud of my dad and what i would say i'm trying to do is to try to bring that message to an even bigger crowd. >> tomorrow night president obama will deliver his annual state of the union address as he looks to put a year of scandals and controversy behind him. the president has already made it clear that he intends 2014 to be a year of action. now it appears it will be a year

of executive action. jay carney says that president obama will make it clear in his speech that he will utilize his presidential authority as needed to move past the gridlock in washington. >> i think what we saw last year in 2013 was a washington that did not deliver for the american people and the president sees this as a year of action. to work with congress where he can and to bypass congress where necessary to lift folks who want to come up into the middle class. >> after the address, president obama will hit the road traveling to four states to highlight his economic recovery plan. he will also participate in a google plus hangout coming up on friday. barely five years after losing the presidency to barack obama senator john mccain is now officially not conservative enough in his own state of arizona. they've censured senator mccain claiming his voting record was disastrous and harmful. they will not seek further

action meaning that the voice votes serve no purpose beyond embarrassing senator mccain. john kyle defended the senator saying, quote, i've gone to dozens of these meetings. most people realize it does not represent the vast numbers of republicans. now mccain says he is currently seeking a sixth senate term. the u.s. state department now updating its advisory to u.s. citizens traveling to the olympics saying while there's no specific threat, americans should be cautious. meanwhile, top congressional members are saying they are not trying to be alarm mists about it, but the threat of terror feels very different than the games of the past. even the u.s. olympic team safety cannot be guaranteed. >> i cannot give them 100% guarantee. these are going to be very much threatened olympics, probably more than any we've had in our past, more than greece, certainly more than london or china. >> i would say the security threat to the olympics, this particular olympics, are the

greatest i think i've ever seen because of the proximity of the terrorists to the olympic village. there's never been this connection between pakistan, afghanistan and cheshian rebels. for the first time they're coming out and endorsing, blessing, and calling for this global jihad against the olympics? wow, that gives me great pause. >> congressman mike paul says russia is doing everything they can do to make the ring of steel impregnable. a texas woman who is brain dead and pregnant has been taken off life support following a judge's order and days of emotional debate of back and forth. she's been kept on a ventilator for two months after she was found collapsed in the kitchen with an apparent blood clot in her lung. despite her family's attempts to have her pronounced dead, they claimed that texas law required

them to first deliver the child using a caesarian section. the judge ruled munos is brain dead and legally dead and texas law requiring treatment to pregnant women did not reply. they're deciding not to repeal that decision. this morning police are still trying to figure out why a young man opened fire in a maryland mall. on saturday 19-year-old darion marcus aguilar walked into zumiez and fired. the victims are brianna benlolo and tyler johnson. he took his own life. they found the shooter's body next to a 12 gauge shotgun. they found a bag with homemade explosions. a woman who identified herself as aguilar's mother spoke to people by telephone. >> he's never, never had a gun before. never been interested in guns. never been interested in anything like that.

i don't know what happened. i just don't know what happened. i don't know what happened. i feel for those other parents, too. i do. >> police say that aguilar bought the gun legally in maryland last year. he did not have a criminal record and did leave behind a journal. the mall is expected to reopen for business coming up later today. all right. there is some more bad press for cruise ships out there. a royal caribbean trip will end early. this is after 600 people have shown symptoms of the neural virus on board. they departed on wednesday from new jersey. health officials boarded the ship on sunday. the ship will be sanitized before being redeployed. it is the explorer of the seas there. an oklahoma lawmaker is

pushing for a chance to keep same-sex marriage illegal. he's not sure that marriage needs to be regulated by the state at all. now the fight over oklahoma's ban on marriage equality is on its way to the court of appeals in denver. we wanted to get your take on this one. is this the best idea ever or an excuse for discrimination? what are your thoughts about no marriage at all in oklahoma? tweet us your best, most creative answers using #waytooearly. a symbolic gesture of peace went terribly wrong at the vatican yesterday. during his endless prayer pope francis released two doves. one was attacked by a siegel. the other was attacked by a black crow. the pope then embraced a young boy who joined him during that prayer while the other one next to him smiled i think in nervous laughter.

month long. indianapolis, st. louis, buffalo, pittsburgh are going to tank. the big story today is what's going to happen in the south. i mean, they're freaking out. areas like mobile, new orleans, houston, wilmington, myrtle beach all getting a snow and iegs storm tomorrow into wednesday. it doesn't happen that often especially this wide of a coverage area, but even in eastern north carolina they have a chance of getting 4 to 8 inches of snow even on the outer banks they were talking about vacation spots. not a lot of snow from areas montgomery south of atlanta. maybe only one to three inches. they don't have plows or salt trucks, at least not widespread. that's why it could be a troublesome travel day on tuesday. how long is this latest arctic blast going to last. the white over the top into the u.s.a., that's the coldest of cold air into the hemisphere. thankfully as we head into super bowl sunday and by thursday the cold air finally retreats. we get a little bit of a january thaw as we head towards the upcoming weekend. no huge shot coming back down to
