at the barge the same day the circles appear. >> he was accused of having done the sequence on computer and copy it to fichl you would have to have facilities like hollywood to do that stuff. and in 1996 it wasn't feasible. >> the videographer is ostracized from the crop circle circles. >> you have two views of the situation. one is he really did film this and it was real and that he was so taken aback and frightened by the attention that was put toward him. because it would have been a very important piece of evidence if absolutely known to be real. some say he backed off, say he gave the tape to others and said i don't want anymore to do with it and that's why he wouldn't come forward. others say basically that if the footage was real he had to be persuaded in to science. that somebody paid or forgsed him to say that he faked it.

put it around the person's eyes wearing the suit and it will blend in to the mask itself. they wanted to know how to make it large and massive. >> he wanted extra material. he's going to have to change the head, put these -- this is brilliant on roger's part, these female breasts which everybody thought, nobody could make that up. it is so credible. so believer. >> the check arrived and i sent the suit out 0 to him. he called me back and said, listen, you can see the zipper in the back of the suit. i said well, that's easy to overcome. get a hair brush and brush it across the zipper and it will disappeared. that's the last i heard from him. >> until he sees his gorilla suit on tv. >> my wife is in the kich and i said amy, come here, you want to see this. she walks in the room and says oh, look there's our gorilla suit. >> morris keeps quiet of his involvement believing that

patterson will admit to faking the film. >> i didn't say anything to anybody because i thought our market was for magicians. it would be unethical to sell a costume and later say that is not a real gorilla but a man in a gorilla suit. >> patterson says it is the real thing and earns thousands of dollars selling the rights to the film. and yes, we later paid for the rights to use it in this episode. >> even on television, radio shows across the country. i realized at a point that he was not going to tell everybody that it was a hoax. i just set back and watched what he was going to do. i think his intentions were that he would get someone to produce a motion picture of big foot and he would make a fortune out of it. >> five years after his footage day bus on tv, robert pan patterson dice of cancer maintaining until the end that

the film is genuine. in 2002, three decades after the saw the film. morris goes public with his story. >> i started announcing, well, that's our gorilla suit. that's the gorilla suit that ten, 20 magicians across the country use the suit. it's our suit, not a big foot. >> it comes too late for many believers. >> people are so taken by the things they fall for. they are hugely invested. now they are fools if they were wrong. as soon as you come in and rain on their parade, you will find utter hostility. >> the first reaction was, no, you're lying. that's a real big foot. i'm thinking how is it possible that this could fool people? the suit was with all right. it wasn't the best gorilla suit ever made but it was okay. but in broad daylight did not look like a real animal. >> i talked to phil morris about

this in retrospect seeing how entrenched this film has become. i think he feels he should have come forward. >> we set out to verify mor ris' story and found bob haranamus who said he is the man in the big foot costume. they have since become friends. >> he said walk like a gorilla. and bob was a rodeo cowboy. he had no idea what a gorilla should walk like. he just walked like a normal person walking down the street and kind of waved his arms back and forth and thought that was real show business. >> he has the size and gait to be big foot, to give it life and i think this is very important. there are people who remember seeing a big foot suit in the trunk of bob's mother's car. when it comes down to it, it's hard to improve upon phil morris

as the source of the costume. bob as the guy in the big suit and roger patterson as producer, director and whatever else of this film. >> just as patterson stood by his story, so too does morris. >> rick baker, who's academy award winner eight times said to me one time. he said, phil, this was the worst gorilla suit i've ever seen in my life. i said, yes, it's true. but think about this there are over 10, 20, 30 million people who saw that film of big foot walking through the forest and thought it was a real suit. that's absolutely amazing. >> at the end of the day, when you have watched the figure stride and you have looked at it, i'm inclined to agree with the late john napier from the smithsonian who remarked
