seven gold medals are up for grabs today. and shaun white, the flying tomato, will be looking pr one in the half pipe. he could make history as he becomes the first american man to win the same event at three consecutive olympic winter games. right now canada and the netherlands lead the way with three gold medals. then norway with two gold, seven total. and the u.s. in fourth with two gold, five total. jay gray is live in sochi. the pressure is on shaun white. >> reporter: you're absolutely right. let's focus on shaun white. he pulled out of the slopestyle event to focus on the halfpipe. he wants his third gold. now he's having problems like the rest of the halfpipers with

the course here in sochi. problems and organizers have altered the halfpipe schedule hoping for better conditions. it's getting warm and creating a mess up on the course there. so instead of qualifying runs originally scheduled for 2:00 local time this afternoon, the riders will compete in a semifinal at 6:20 later in the day and the 12 top riders will go to the full-times. that will be in the evening so it will be cooler. they will be able to work on the course and get it good enough to have a strong run. breaking news and unfortunately bad news when it comes to curling. the women's curling team taking on you shall russia here and losing their second match in the round 9 howard fineman 7. a tough go. they came into this with high hopes. julia mancuso added another
