warning in place for the washington state mudslide? family members want those answers. you can't forget the unfrefrable mary lou henner. our special guest. this is "way too early." that will go down in the history as one of the best openings ever. i'm thomas roberts. it is wednesday, march 25th. welcome to "way too early" it is show that knows mary lou henner will never forget her appearance right here on this show today. we have a special guest. the obama administration is expected to announce today a new change in the health care law that will allow certain people more time to sign up for coverage. the planned extension first reported by the washington post comes six days before the deadline to enroll in the federal marketplace or face a government fine. now, under the new loophole people who ran into the

technical issues while applying for obama care will reportedly have until midapril to ask for extra time, and americans won't have to prove they really tried to sign up earlier. instead the government will rely on an honor system where people simply check a box. the white house has been pushing a major p.r. offensive to boost enrollment numbers as nervous democrats brace for the potential of political fallout of the midterm electrics and as the "new york times" is pointing out, officials have previously insisted the deadline was term and will not be altered. that includes health and human services secretary catherine. here's what she told congress earlier this month. >> are you going to delay the mandate that individuals have to buy government health care or pay tax? >> no, sir. >> are you going to delay the open enrollment beyond march 31st? >> no, sir. >> is it correct that you don't have the authority to extend that deadline? the position that the senators from medicare and medicaid have

made, do you agree with that? >> i haven't seen their statements, but there is no delay beyond march 31st. >> meanwhile, the supreme court is now weighing arguments into whether obama care violates the religious freedoms of employers by requiring them to provide insurance for birth control. the justices seem to buy it. today mior saying could they object to vac sin aings or blood transfewings and just as anthony kennedy pushes them on both sides challenging the government whether they could be forced pay for abortions. officials in washington state are facing growing criticism that more could have been done to prevent the loss of life from saturday's massive mudslide. the disaster is now blamed for at least two dozen deaths. a federally funded report in 2010 warned of dangerous conditions when two steep slopes and -- other research recordly raised concerns as well. >> i think that the county should have been aware of the

risk. there have been numerous studies that have documented it. there's a historical record of repeated failures on the landslide that have gone all the way across the river. >> we've done everything we could to protect them. we've mitigated the landslide from 2006. there's been warnings and advance notifications of high risk for landslides. we've done everything we could. my heart goes out to all of these individuals. >> officials say they believe a small earthquake 12 days ago may have played a role in causing the disaster. a despair that's growing for family members searching for missing loved ones. more than 100 people are still reported missing and now we're hearing some of the frantic 911 calls made in the moments right after the slide hit. >> there's a mudslide and everythings's gone. the houses are gone. i got people here screaming for help. >> my neighbor's house and their neighbor's house has been completely taken out. it's collapsed on several of them, and they're trapped. >> president obama says that he has signed an emergency

declaration to help the county with its current recovery efforts. weather conditions, they did improve overnight allowing crews to resume the flight for flight 370. a dozen aircraft are patrolling the skies above the target area on this 19th day of the search, including the planes from the u.s., china, and japan. a number of ships have also returned to the area. the southern i understandian ocean. the u.s. navy is sending an undersea drone to assist in recovery efforts. several objects have been spotted on satellite images, but officials have not been able to identify any plane parts belonging to the missing flight. it was earlier today australia's prime minister spoke about how long the search would go on. >> we keep searching until there is absolutely no hope of finding anything. plainly there is quite a bit of debris in this part of the southern indian ocean. we've photographed it on a number of occasions now. we have not yet recovered any because of the difficulty of locating bits of debris in a

vast ocean. >> he went on to say that the search isn't openended, but it's unlikely to be abandoned, and now malaysian airlines and boeing could face a lawsuit from the families of the now presumed victims of flight 370 because of possible manufacturing defects that led to the plane's ultimate crash. president obama is expected to reassure europe of america's absolute backing and underline the -- yesterday he made it clear where he sees russia's standing in global geopolitics. >> america has a whole lot of challenges. russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors. not out of strength, but out of weakness. >> meanwhile, a major aid package to ukraine is closer to reach congress after harry reid removed a sticking point with house republicans reorganizing

the international monetary fund. former secretary of defense donald rumsfeld is less than thrilled about u.s. foreign policy under the president. especially when it comes to treatment of afghanistan and its president hamid karzai. on monday he framed what he sees as obama's ineptitude in no uncertain terms. >> our relationship with karzai and afghanistan was absolutely first rate in the bush administration. it has gone downhill like a toboggan ever since the obama administration xwaim came. if the administration, white house, and state department have failed to get a status -- >> all right. they were assigned to keep president obama safe on his trip overseas this week, but three secret service agents are now sitting at home on administrative leave. the secret service says the agents were booted from the detail after a night of drinking

in the netherlands. one of the agents was reportedly found passed out in the hallway of a hotel, and this happened the day before president obama arrived in amsterdam. agents are not allowed to drink alcohol within ten hours of a shift. that rule went into affect after agents assigned to president obama in columbia were found with prostitutes in their hotel rooms two years ago. all right. we shift our attention to focus on business. wall street was able to turn things around yesterday closing in positive territory for the first time in three sessions. cnbc's jeff cutmore live for us in london. jeff, not the biggest boost we see, but green arrows nonetheless. >> yeah, absolutely. and let's just bridge from your last story about too much stimulus to one about not enough in europe. it seems that there is still an issue with stimulating european economies to grow faster, and that's what's holding back the markets at the moment a little bit in the european context, but ecb's head drogge and the bank

we got -- this is a huge storm that's just about a 200 mile off the jersey coast right now. if this was maybe 100 miles closer, you would be talking about this incredible hurricane force winds in many areas, but it's very isolated out towards cape cod down east maine and nova scotia will get nailed too wrash we've been spared. i know where heed we did pick up six to seven inches of snow in southern new jersey and off to delaware and maryland, but you weren't getting these hurricane force gusts. the snow is really confined to kentucky martha's vineyard, and once we get past the canal, there's not much snow at all. we didn't see much in the area of long island. these pictures in chatham, this is incredible stuff out there this morning. we have dillon dryer out there this morning and all the weather channel people taking some amazing pictures once the sun comes up, and the winds have been gusting so far above 30 to 40 miles per hour from boston to newport and out on the cape we do expect gusts up to hurricane force later today. the rest of the east is still a
