"game of thrones" is back and rules sunday night tv. this is "way too early." hey there, everybody. good morning, i'm thomas roberts. it's monday, april 7th, 2014. welcome to "way too early." the show that rules tv for 30 minutes of the morning. we'll start with serious news which is the update for flight 370 and what officials call their best lead yet in the hunt for the missing jet liner. on two separate occasions u.s. navy equipment detected audio signals from deep in the indian ocean. while there's hope of a possible break through, there's still signs they need to wait for definitive proof. >> and again, i would ask all of you to treat this information cautiously and responsibly until such time as we can provide an

unequivocal determination. i need to be honest with you, it could take some days before the information is available to establish whether these detections can be confirmed as being from mh 370. in very deep oceanic water, nothing happens fast. >> the signals were picked up about 1,000 miles northwest of perth, australia and that's along the flight path that satellites suggest the plane may have taken one month ago. the black box recorders are designed to operate for 30 days. former governor jeb bush will decide whether or not he's running for president by the end of the year. while celebrating the 25th anniversary of his father's presidency, he layed out what his party's nominee should look like rejecting the mud slinging of past primaries. >> in a candidate run with a

hopeful optimistic message, hopefully with enough detail to give people a sense that it's not just idol words. can one do it joyfully? without tied to all of the convention of the politics of the here and now. we need to elect candidates that have a vision that is bigger and broader. and candidates that are organized around winning the election. not making a point. winning the election should be what we're about. winning allows the big things to get solved. >> bush also waded in the issue of immigration keenly aware of the political hazard that comes with this. >> i'm going to say this and it will be on tape and so be it. someone that comes to our country, because they couldn't come legally, they come to our country because their families, you know, a dad who loved their children was worried that their children didn't have food on the

table. and, you know, they wanted to make sure their family was intact and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. yes, they broke the law, but it's not a felony. it's a act of love. it's an act of commitment to your family. i honestly think that is a different kind of crime that should be -- there should be a price paid but it shouldn't be -- it shouldn't rile people up that people are coming to this country to provide for their families. >> a dispute over interrogation tactics used by the cia is spilling into the political arena. they say the agency sealed how severe the interrogations were. although the report isn't out yet, the backlash, well, that's already begun. >> they have made assumptions and leapt to conclusions that cannot be substantiated.

this is not the holy grail and doesn't answer all the questions and why now into an election year would you bring this up? >> i read an article earlier this week, he said that senator feinstein wanted a report so scathing it would insure that it would never again be permitted. that may show deep emotional feeling on the part of the senator but i don't think it leads you to an objective report. >> in part the report is objective based on fact thoroughly footnoted and i'm certain it will stand on its own meri merits. dick cheney defended the tactics used claiming they weren't torture. >> i was a strong advocate and help put together the enhanced interrogation program. some people call it torture. it wasn't torture.

we were very careful in all respects to abide by the law. we got legal opinions out of the justice department in respect to what we could do and what we couldn't do. >> if he doesn't think that was torture i would invite him anywhere in the united states to sit in a waterboard and go through what those people went through. one of them 100 and plus odd times. that's ridiculous to make that claim. >> president obama is poised to tackle equal pay in the work place this week. he is expected to issue an executive order tomorrow barring federal contractors for getting back at employees if they talk about their pay scale and is to require contractors that work for the u.s. government to hand over data showing their p payrolls. younger generations of workers grow closer to wage equality. younger women in the work force made 93% of the wages their male

counter parts did. but when you add in the rest of the working population that falls to 84%. unrest is deepening in ukraine's industrial east. pro-russian demonstrators seized government buildings in cities and protestors clashed with police before overtaking the buildings and hoisting the russian flag. they accused russian's vladimir putin of instarting rotation ga -- the unrest. there's a way of restoring order without violence but it also accuses the ousted president for making the situation worse. >> under threat of violence, millions of afghans voted for a president and so par the race is headed to a run off. according to new york times election officials say somewhere between 7 and 7.5 afghans turned out to the polls. that's about 60% of the eligible voters. former world bank executive

ghani and abdullah abdullah are the front runners. it would limit karzai's influence going forward. both said they would sign the security agreement to keep u.s. troops in the country. karzai refused to approve it. sad news about a legendary career, one that spanned more than 90 years. mickey rooney passed away in california. he started on stage as a toddler and received a lifetime achievement oscar 30 years ago. more on rooney's career. >> i'm going to write a show for us and put it on right here. >> reporter: his career spanned a lifetime. a veteran of more than 300 films, mickey rooney loved to act and he loved the limelight. >> you never get tired of hearing applause. >> reporter: the accolades came early. he began performing at 17 months. by the time he could walk he was

kids, that's dicey i guess. >> who are you supposed to cheer for? >> police, firefighter? >> get them. >> that's difficult for a 4-year-old to deal with. >> good guys against the good guys. >> unfortunately, mississippi and alabama are a mess. these rain and thunderstorms and even tornadoes overnight are problematic but you have one confirmed tornado. go through mt. olive mississippi. it's in rural sections to the southeast of jackson mississippi and up toward birmingham we continue to watch the heavy rains. flash flood emergency in a few spots down there. 7 or 8 inches of rain in the last 24 to 36 hours and that's causing a lot of problems down there. especially alabama. now as we go throughout the day the threat will push up to the northeast. it will continue as we go throughout the afternoon hours. as far as the tornado threat goes, it's really until only about 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. this morning in this region so things will slowly improve throughout the day and as we go throughout
