why do you think republicans dislike the poor so much? wel well, basically the republicans are all about power. money is power. poor folks in this country with useless to the conservatives. so why should they be concerned about them. they have made the calculation that it's a heck of a lot easier to jerry happgerrymander and ma harder for them to be a part of the process than it is to vote resources to them or vote opportunity to them. so poor people in this country clearly are useless to the conservative movement as i see it. our next question from clarence. what is needed to motivate democrats to vote in november? i don't know what else you need to be motivated. i've had more people talk on the radio about the midterm election, and this is april. we're not even at easter yet.

mr. boehner is not one of them. seven house members, house republicans wrote a letter to boehner last week asking him to consider the senate legislation reauthorizing long-term unemployment benefits. thursday when asked directly about the issue, he punted. >> listen, i made clear to the president last december that, you know, if they wanted us to consider an extension of emergency unemployment benefits, it would have to be paid for and it would have to help include things that would help our economy get going. they did not put forward anything with regard to how we would create more jobs. the ball is still in their court. >> a reporter pressed administrator about what specific job provisions the speaker would like to see. again, boehner deflected. >> you'll have to ask the administration. i made clear what it would take for me to consider it. they have not had any suggestions. >> the mount of the united

steelworkers international joins us tonight. good to have you with us. capsulize this for us. they're just not going to do anything for long-term unemployment no matter who or how many imaffects. what's your take on that? >> let me say, ed, that was one of the most din ingenuous -- i've been told by my mom to not call people liars, so i'll just say that's disingenuous when he says they never proposed anybody. the president proposed a jobs bill, he proposed an infrastructure bill and he proposed extending long-term unemployment insurance. if you want to pay for it, let boehner say he's going to cut the tax breaks for the ultra rich and oil companies. the president has already submitted many, many times good jobs bills, infrastructure bills that would put people back to work. that's completely disingenuous. and the fact of the matter is they extended unploemt insurance, i don't know how many times during the bush regime.

they just don't want this president to have a success. and the reality is that even his own members are starting to turn on him. i know the public, by almost 70%, ed, maybe a higher percentage this week want extnded unemployment insurance.. >> is this political suicide, mr. gerrard? i mean, if the democrats are successful in getting low wage workers out to utilize the midterm, this could be over no naert what kind of gerrymandering takes place. your thoughts? >> there's close to 200,000 people who need extended unemployment insurance in ohio. the president is fighting for an increase in the minimum wage. even if we get to over $10 an hour, no one is going to get rich on that, but that economy will get a recycling of that money, we'll be able to buy things. i was with a ceo not long ago and i said to him, what do you think about extending unemployment insurance, what do you think about the minimum wage? he said we've got to do both, we've got to get the minimum wage above $10 because america

is lacking demand. there's too much money going to too few people and not enough money going to a broad base of people. we need to have more demand. even ceo's in large corporations are getting it. >> a few weeks ago, we did a story on the dumping of steel with the south korean trade agreement. what's the latest on that? and what is the commerce department going to do about this if anything? >> we think they've got to do the right thing and that is go to the right form of calculation. they use the frong form of calculating. they built a steel mill that doesn't use one point of steel in their own country. we've got senators like senator sherrod brown who are leading the charge, bringing more senators on site, explaining to them. and we're going to put a number of our members are going to go up on the hill, so they're going to look at members of commerce, members of the senate and people from the commerce department and
