>> wow. pretty sweet all around. for the second time in three years bubba watson is your master's champ walking away with another green jacket. the pings have stopped but are investigators finding a way to zero in for flight 370. and more unrest in the ukraine. they're demonstrating a new way to claim the western part of that country. this is "way too early." hey, everybody. good morning. i'm thomas roberts. welcome to "way too early" for april the 14th. this is the show that is simultaneously tracking developments in the ukraine and is equal to sharp nato. sharp nato in the news, people. we will have that for you. we start with the ukraine and its president is launching a large-scale operation to retake buildings in the east. military forces engaged in shootouts with russian

separatists. meanwhile, groups loyal to ukraine are scuffling in the streets with pro russian groups. u.s. state department is confronting moscow head on by putting out talking points accusing the kremlin of direct responsibility. the u.s. claims armed russian operatives have been arrested and trying to flame this. the u.n. security council convened an emergency council that was mostly filled with finger pointing over the escalation. >> we know who is behind this. indeed, the only entity in the area capable of these coordinated escalated military actions is russia. the sink crow niced surgical seizure occurred in towns along the main highway followed by armed roadblocks almost as if a coordinated barrier was being formed between kiev and the main cities. >> they're not mincing words. ayman mohyeldin joins us. that's one of the senators of

the unrest. ayman, describe the centers of unrest. >> reporter: it's one that's very tense. especially in the past few hours. not only did they ignore an ultimatum that was required to lay down their arms and leave the buildings, they've continued to seize more police stations. in the past hour alone about 45 miles from where we are pro russian separatist militias managed to take over another building. there was an exchange of gunfire, molotov cocktails were thrown. another police station in another city in the eastern part of the country now controlled by pro russian separatist militias. once they take control of these buildings, they then set up barriers around it and more importantly set up check points in and out of the towns and effectively try to create a new reality on the ground. what they want politically is a referendum to give them the chance to break away from the ukraine and give them the choice of perhaps joining russia. the ukrainian government says it

will not tolerate this anymore. they have ordered a large scale operation to regain buildings and territories that they have lost. they run the risk if they use force and crack down heavily on the protesters, they could provoke russia into a military response. >> ayman mohyeldin reporting from the ukraine. thank you. back at home three people are dead after a man believed to be a white supremacist opened fire at a jewish center in kansas city. >> there's a guy with a rifle shooting at people. >> leave? >> i would leave. >> is he still here? >> i don't know. >> the first calls came in to police early in the afternoon. 14-year-old reed underwood and his grandfather were shot and killed outside of a jewish community center. according to police, he drove to another retirement center and killed a woman there. a total of five people were fired upon. law enforcement forces identify him as 73-year-old frazier glenn

cross jr. he's been on the radar saying he has used aliases and is a former grand dragon of the carolina knights of the kkk. meanwhile, a vigil was held at a nearby church for the victims. one woman made an unexpected appearance that left all attendees in shock. >> i'm in shock, but i want you to know that i appreciate all of you being here. i'm the daughter of that gentleman who was killed and i'm the mother of the son who was killed. and i want to tell you how much i appreciate you all being here. i heard that there was going to be a vigil and we all grieve in different ways, and i just wanted to tell people thank you. >> just so heartbreaking. reed underwood's family said he was a high school freshman an an eagle scout. his grandfather had taken him

for an audition for a teen talent program when he was shot and killed. searchers will send out a sophisticated sub to find the wreckage of malaysian flight 370. they're deploying the unmanned blue fin 21 now that they are no longer searching for the black box pings. it has been six days since any sounds have been detected. the equipment sending out the signals may have simply run out of battery power. efforts continued through the weekend with a fleet of planes and ships. an oil slick was detected yesterday but the search of air and sea surface will end in two to three days. for pope francis, this is the latest opportunity to lead by example. the pontiff marked palm sunday by going off script. the pope, who has centered his papacy on a renewed focus for the poor, often breaks from tradition. he posed for selfies in rio de

this week as well. we've got 20% of the s&p reporting this week. last week the s&p lost 4.2%. today we have citigroup, tomorrow, coca-cola, johnson and johnson and google and bank of america on wednesday. it's all about the earnings. millions of americans are racing to complete their tax returns ahead of the deadline. the chances of getting audited are lower than for decades. there are fewer agents auditing returns since any time in the 1980s. that's potentially good news for some but it means less calls are getting answered. millions of phone calls are going unanswered, thomas. >> uncle sam wants his money. real quickly, i want to talk to you about the rumors of amazon and looking now, steve, to end the smartphone rumors. they're going to have one, right? >> well, look, they've gone very heavy, as we've talked about on this show various times, now we think there will be a smartphone

let's get to sports. a great weekend with the masters, bubba watson and jordan spieth battling it out. spieth was leading the tournament and caught up in the bunker. no problem. bubba watson showing off his chip. he would birdie. this turned in his favor. same hole, spieth misses. he would bogey. the next who will, bubba sinks a tough birdie putt. spieth would make another bogey. bubba takes control with a two-stroke lead. spieth trying to take control but runs into problems. his tee shot rolls into the water. yeah. meanwhile -- into the drink. bubba's creativity comes out on the 15th with his shot through some trees.
