squads detonated two unidentified and unattacked backpacks found near the finish line. officials say at least one man in in custody. the boston p.d. discouraged people from bringing backpacks in an effort to ease the heightened concerns there. two people are dead over 300 people are missing this morning after a ferry capsized off the coast of the south korea. the vessel was carrying 476 people including high school kids and teachers. helicopters were deployed to the scene to help the efforts and the u.s. navy is also sending a ship there. the south korean coast guard said 163 people have been rescued so far. the cause of the accident remains an investigation. an affairfield is now under control of that country's military as the government in kiev pushes back against pro-russian militants who seized militants in roughly one dozen

cities. it's the first a coordinated campaign aimed the re-establishing control over the rest of the region. there's widespread concern that the crackdown could be used by russia is a pretext to send forces inside the border and potentially take over more land as it did last month in crimea. the administration is backing the response by ukraine, while moscow is accusing its neighbor of waging war against its own people. the white house says the u.s. is now, quote, seriously considering new sanctions against russia. a major flash point in the see of donetsk. and talks also involved in tholgs conversations. senator rand paul, the republican and possibly 2016 contender is facing down members of the gop who says his views on foreign policy are less than

presidential. rich lowery in the national review asks for the situation room or the dorm room, he calls paul's policies immature. "the wall street journal" is more tongue in cheek about paul's 2016 prospects. saying, quote, what the gop needs is a humbling landslide defeat. at issue here is rand paul's stance on iran. in a recent interview with abc, he attempted to explain why he voted against a resolution that would allow the u.s. to do anything possible to prevent iran from getting a nuclear weapon. >> i've repeatedly voted for sanctions against iran. and i think all options should be on the table to prevent them from having nuclear weapon. the way they wrote the resolution, and i'm a stickler on what the wording is i don't want to be what's declared war without people thinking through this. they said containment will never be our policy. we woke up one day and pakistan had nuclear weapons. if that would have been our pose against pakistan, we would be at

in the country is turning over a new leaf. according to the "the new york times," the niepsd ypd is abanda controversial program that had plains clothe officers spying on new york city. detectives in that unit kept detailed files where people in the muslim communities ate, prayed and shopped but as the "times" points out after year ago of it acknowledged it never generated a lead. and never led to any charges that a mosque or islamic organization was. bill bratton says he intends to radio pair the relationship between the niepsd and minority communities that he says were damage under the bloomberg administration. speaking of new york's mayor, if you thought leaving office would mean rest and relaxation for michael bloomberg, think again.

jeremy peters in the times details a new $50 million by bloomberg to challenge the nra on gun control. it will be called every town for safety and be bank rolled by the former mayor himself. unlike his efforts which largely consists of buying tv ads it's a grassroots operation to rival the nra. when asked if his own person season that a big mayor from new york could undercut those. his quote was i don't know what your perception is of the name blackberg around the country, he said every place you go, you're a rock star. people yelling out of cabs, hey, way to go." and on the way of tackling obesity and he's telling people if there's a god when i get to heaven. i'm not stopping to be interviewed. i'm heading straight in. i've earned my own place in heaven.
