tragedy claims the lives of more than a dozen tour guides. this is "way too early." hey, everybody. great to have you with us. welcome to "way too early," a show that has a new update on the "mrs. doubtfire" sequel and why twitter is blasting one of its child stars. big stuff. we'll talk about that, coming up in a little while. secretary of state john kerry says diplomacy may have just spared ukraine and russia from a, quote, complete and total implosion. two countries along with the u.s. and eu reached a deal aimed at defusing the tension in the region. more say over governmental decisions in the future. some of the gunmen are refusing to give up ground. president obama spoke with european allies yesterday and

said more sanctions against moscow could be on the way. >> my hope is that we actually do see follow through over the next several days. but i don't think, given past performance, that we can count on that. and we have to be prepared to potentially respond to what continue to be, you know, efforts of interference by the russians in eastern and southern ukraine. >> yesterday's agreement in geneva made no mention of russia's recent takeover of crimea and did not call for president putin to pull back his troops from the border. there was outrage over information that demanded jewish residents pay a $50 registration fee or face deportation and loss of their citizenship. we want to turn overseas to this breaking news overnight. nbc news has confirmed at least 13 tour guides are dead after an avalanche on mt. everest.

many others are still to be missing. it occurred just below camp two, 21,000 feet high. they went to the area to fix ropes for those prepping to scale the mountain next month. hundreds of others have died trying to reach the top. arrest report in kansas city. arrest was made yesterday afternoon after dozens of police officer s raided a home. 20 shootings since march in roads throughout the city. the suspect's identity has not been revealed, or a possible motive. the regulation is far from over, they say, and cannot rule out that there may be more people possibly involved. now to the latest on that ferry disaster in south korea, shaping up to be the country's worst accident on the water in 20 years. it's been more than 24 hours

since the boat capsized. nearly 270 people are still missing and 28 people are confirmed dead. keir simmons has more for us. >> reporter: they are searching for a miracle, working in chool choppy seas, still hoping to find someone, anyone alive. they've hammered on the hull, but heard nothing back. this 6-year-old survived but her parents and older brother are still missing. she was rescued from the ship without them. passengers boarded the ferry at incheon, many of them women and children. 12 hours later sheer terror as the ship lurched and began to sink. text messages during those final moments, many from the hundreds of high school classmates on board. i think we're going to die. i really love you all. and a message of hope. let's all see each other alive. outrage at the news that almost none of the ship's lifeboats

were deployed even though one apparently carried the ship's captain to safety. today, he covered his face in shame. >> i'm so sorry, he said. the ship's owner in tears said i've committed an unforgivable sin. korean television shows the ship made a sudden, sharp turn before it began to sink, perhaps causing the 180 vehicles and thousand tons of cargo on board to shift, cranes to lift the ferry from the sea bed, and scores of ships, and floatilia, including the u.s. navy. divers do what they can in the murky waters below. it's difficult, painstaking and, experts say, dangerous. >> you're talking low visibility. you're talking unstable vessel. even in the best of times, diving into something like that will be a challenge. >> relatives of the missing made a pilgrimage to the wreck. south carolina's president also made the trip and was later shouted out at by furious

families who know they may never see their loved ones again. while this little girl waits, not knowing what's become of her family. >> that was keir simmons reporting for us. president obama launched a strong defense of obamacare, saying the latest numbers is exceeding expectations. at least 8 million americans have enrolled through state or federal healthcare exchanges, beating the initial goal of 7 million. according to the white house, 37% of enrollees are under the age of 35. 20% are between 18 and 29. 3 million more who got coverage by staying on their parents' plans and the growth of healthcare costs is now the lowest in decades. president obama says the statistics should send a clear message to both parties. >> i think that democrats should forcefully defend and be proud of the fact that millions of people, like the woman i just described, who i saw in

pennsylvania yesterday, we're helping because of something we did. i don't think we should apologize for it. i don't think we should be defensive about it. i think there is a strong, good, right story to tell. if republicans want to spend all their time talking about repealing a law that's working, that's their business. i think what democrats should to is not be defensive. but we need to move on and focus on the things that are really important to the american people right now. >> so, republicans have criticized the white house for not yet releasing how many people have paid for coverage under the aca. senator harry reid says a task force to deal with rancher bundy. the militia members who came to support the rancher against the bureau of land management. majority leader accused bundy's backers of bringing their children to a showdown in an effort to create negative headlines if violence had broken

out. >> there were hundreds, hundreds of people from around the country that came there. they had sniper rifles on the freeway. they had assault weapons. they had automatic weapons. these people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. they're nothing more than domestic terrorists. and i think that we are a country that people should follow the law. >> he refuses to recognize the federal government and owes about $1 million for grazing his cattle on public lands. there is a new measure to see how voters view hillary clinton as the former secretary of state considers a potential run for 2016. according to a fox news poll, 39% have a favorable opinion, 45% few her unfavorable. they stack up close to her ratings in '07. speaking alongside her daughter, chelsea, at an event for young
