a shooting in kabul left three americans dead. it's run by cure, an american charity organization with branchs around the world. a security guard is blamed with shooting at least one doctor and two americans. one other was wounded. he is in custody after shooting himself in the head. cure is a non-profit, faith-based organization. the hospital in kabul was established in 2005 and treats nearly 37,000 patients every year. president obama is on the first full day of a week-long trip in asia. he arrived yesterday in japan. the new ambassador to japan greeted him, and he had dinner at a famous sushi restaurant where the average meal is 400 bucks. president obama gave it a glowing review. >> thank you. that's great sushi there.

terrific. thank you very much. >> so they talked about trade agreements and china. but the crisis in ukraine took center stage, president obama sending a clear message to moscow. >> so far, at least, we have seen them not abide by the spirit or the letter of the agreement in geneva. instead we continue to see militias and armed men taking over buildings. we have been preparing for the prospect that we're going to have to engage in further sanctions. those are teed up. >> former secretary of state hillary clinton is also supporting new sanctions against russia and says moscow will not like the outcome. >> i think russia will pay a big price for this. but that is a -- an end point that we have to get to as peacefully as possible without seeing the total, you know, disintegration of ukraine as a country with territorial

integrity and an opportunity to have the relationship it wants with the west. >> russia, for its part, warned of military action if any of its citizens are attacked in eastern ukraine. the foreign minister compared what is taking place in ukraine to what led to russia's invasion of georgia in 2008. some of the first u.s. military forces arrived in poland for training exercises. interesting to see how that's taken and absorbed on the world stage going forward. and syria, growing concern that chemical weapons are interesting the civil war again. and they may have launched an attack with chlorine gas. one child was killed, dozens injured. there is an indication that it was used there. they deny the allegations. and school is back in school in south korea. many of the victims went to class. the death toll has exceeded 150.

more than 140 people remain missing. many are teen students. prosecutors raided the home of the ferry's owner as part of their investigation. cargo on the ship weighed three times the maximum recommended weight. it also had a faulty steering system which may have caused the cargo to move to one side causing it to capsize and sink. they are investigating if safety inspectors were bribed to say the ferry was safe to operate. back at home, gun rights advocates in georgia are hailing what they call a major victory. opening up for bars, schools, churches, and government buildings, and the busiest airport licensed gun owners. they signed into law what's the most expansive gun bill in the country. it even authorized school districts to allow administers to carry firearms. they wanted to go further, opening up college campuses.

many are outraged, saying that guns should be allowed in fewer places, not more, and especially that drinking and guns do not mitch. clive bundy pounfound activ coming to his side, but his comments will leave his supporters will buyer's remorse. he refused to pay the government more than a million dollars in grazing fees for using government lands. it brought in anti-government activists and militias. they were rallying to his defense. and they backed off taking his cattle. he's used the attention to discuss his views on government overreach, welfare and race. and according to to the times, bundy launched into a tirade on african-american families using a racial slur and saying they

were on government subsidies. now what do they do? abort their young children, put the men in jail, never learned how to pick cotton, are they better off as slaves and picking cotton or with government subsidy? they didn't get more freedom, they got less freedom. there is a growing feud between colorado and new jersey. and on monday chris christie took a shot at colorado over the state's new marijuana policy. >> i don't care about the tax money from it, and that people think it's inevitable. not here. i'm not going to permit it, never as long as i'm governor. for people ennamerred with the income of the tax revenue. go to colorado and see if you want to live there. see if you want to live in a major city in colorado where there's head shops popping up on

every corner and people flying into your airport just to come and get high. to me it's not the quality of life in new jersey. there's no tax revenue worth that. >> so colorado's governor's office was not pleased with the comments. they responded by putting out rankings comparing themselves with new jersey on everything. from business to entrepreneurs, even to the use of technology. the food and drug administration will propose new regulations of democratic cigarettes today. and the multi-billion dollar industry is popular but with no federal oversight. the new regulation would ban the sale to anyone under 18, and require anyone purchasing them to provide a valid id. they would have to register with the fda and be subject to inspections by the agency. so big changes to the internet. the fcc will allow companies like netflix to pay broad band providers for faster downloads and stream times. it's a shift in net neutrality

making sure it's all equal. they will announce that today. they are concerned that the companies paying for access will pass those costs on to the consumers. let's talk a little bit more about business and wall street. the six-day win came to an end, responding to a batch of poor earning's reports and home sales for more. jeff is in london for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. but i think it might be premature to write off this run for the markets. we've had a strong open here in europe, and it looks like there is some follow through. the future for the s&p, the dow jones and the nasdaq are pointed higher, and good news in here. not at least that facebook and apple delivered at the top end of estimates. and we have rumor mill running on the m and a story, with the talk of a potential ge bid for

the french engineering company. we have to wait and watch. but coming back to the apple story. apple delivering quite a strong financial restructuring story. another $30 billion in share buyback. a 7 for 1 stock split. the company also giving reasonably good numbers on the iphone sales. and particularly in china. so they are particularly excited about that, and we saw an 8% pop in the after hours share price for apple. so strong trading expected. particularly in the tech names when we see the markets your side of the atlantic open up. >> let's talk about tech. we were talking about the net neutrality issue. this is on a different note, fans of hbo, they have signed a deal to bring some programming to amazon prime. this is an interesting shift. >> reporter: well, this is ground-breaking. hbo has never done a licensing deal like this with an
