groan, and don't make me do this. imitation is not flattering. the speaker said that immigration reform is not going to be easy. he said he was elected to solve problems ark and the senate immigration bill was passed in congress, and he will be back to work monday. and i want to bring in lauren fox political reporter at u.s. news and world report and nick con fesore from "the new york times." and now, lauren, given that last article from the new york journal, boehner says he is hellbent on getting immigration reform done. he is facing three challengers in the home district of ohio, and does that have anything to do with what was happening yesterday and now? >> well, it is a cry for e help from john boehner saying that passing a bill is good for the

country and the party, too in the midterms and beyond. it is important to him, and he can't get it done, and he has too many members of the caucus who say, if i vote for this, i am going to be hammered. >> this is the first time i can remember him mocking the open forum. what was the motivation? >> well, if you are john boehner and the house speaker and you have a unruly bunch of people and the different factions and you can't bring them along despite the best efforts, it has to be frustrating. >> what we saw was the frustration manifesting itself. >> lauren, speaker boehner also talked about making hard choices and not taking the path of the least resistance, but does this congress at this point, does he have the political courage to do anything, something, on the immigration reform or is this issue dead on the midterms? >> well, one of the things that you have to look at is that the house republicans may not be that motivated to do something on immigration. you have two dozen members,

republican members who have more than 25% la tee the -- latino vo voters in the district, and so they are not that motivated, but if the republican party wants to win in 2016 and take the white house, they have to do something about the amount of la tee the know voters that they lost in 2012. so the republican party is at a crossroads here, and i know that the house republicans may not be motivated, but national ly, the republicans have to be. >> number five guy in the house, a fellow named james langford is running for the senate in oklahoma right now. he may be in some trouble, because of the surging t.w. shannon who had a huge fund-raiser and sarah palin and ted cruz showed up, and he is the poster boy of sorts for the tea party movement there in oklahoma right now, and he has surged according to one recent poll some 35 point, and down

still 10 to langford and is t.w. shannon positioning himself to be the next senator of oklahoma? >> yes, absolutely. there is a huge market for that brand of politics. >> there is all of the running room to the right, and shannon can get in there and be the next senator from oklahoma. >> he is very conservative. >> yes sh, very conservative. >> and he had a good line last night, lauren, and he said that i heard that you can tell a lot about a man by the company and the friends that he keeps, and what do you think of my friends? that is what he said. to win this in oklahoma, what does he have to do? >> one of the things that he has to do is to go out to really do some retail politicking, and that is how you win some of the states, and especially in the middle part of the country, and you know, shaking hands and kissing the babies is how you

win races. i think that the other thing that he can do is to tout the credentials and those on the hill endorsing him, and it really helps him that he has more more of the conservative fringe there. >> and sarah palin was back him, and does she carry that much sway? >> well, that is the two years ago or even 2010, sarah palin endorsement would have the holy grail. and now it does not have the same pop, and not as noticeable, and her stock is not as high as she used to be, and she is out of commission a little bit. she has been off of the hustings for a long time now. >> and i wanted to talk quickly about the piece this morning, and it is very interesting piece on rand paul, and wealthy libertarians, and this is perhaps the last block of really wealthy people that don't, have not picked a horse in politics yet, and who are the with wealthy libertarians and where are they and are they all lining up behind rand paul en masse? >> well, they are all over the

country, and in silicon valley, and beyond wall street. people think that wall street is full of financed republicans, but it is really self-described libertarians, and a millionaire hedge fund founder, and all around the country at these, you know, kind of money management funds, you have guys who are big donors to think tanks to the various research groups to promote the market ideas and they are untapped force in presidential politics. >> to this point, it is a group not tapped into? >> well, for the most part. and david and charles koch are the most prominent donors. they are highly active in the politic, but for the presidential campaign, and for a primary, and primary super pacs and the fund-raising and the bundling, these people have not been tapped very much. >> and thank you both on a

appears to be just exactly the thing that the israelis say they can't deal with. so when president obama say ts s that this was an unhelpful step, i mean, it is more than that. it was deliberate on the part of the palestinians, either to strengthen the hand if that is the way they see it or to as a sure-fire way to end the talks if that is what they want. either way, it was done with full knowledge of what would happen next. >> president obama has also talked about ukraine in the trip. we know that hes h talked to at least four european leaders and called angela merkel to talk about ukraine and it seems that the american and the european leaders are laying the groundwork for more economic sanctions against russia if moscow launches a military incursion into ukraine. is that the answer here or are more sanctions going to resolve the situation? >> well, if by resolve, craig, you mean that will it make russia back off?

with well, so far no evidence that is the case. the sanctions that are on the table right now are more of the same. individual sanctions against the bad guys, basically as opposed to the kind of broader sanctions that president obama also referred to today of what they call the sectorial sanctions which would mean the sanctions against russian banking, and russian oil and gas and the russian defense industries and the broad swathes of the industrial sector in russia. and the europeans are not ready to do that yet, and when obama say says he is going to be talking to the europeans today, what he means is that he is going to try to tee up the first round of sanctions which is ready to go more than a week ago and sort of put on hold to to see whether diplomacy could resolve things here. it hasn't. so now they are ready to go forward with the first set of the sanctions, and could be

you are a potential starter next year. >> and the kids are 19, 20, 21 years old in some cases, and still very young and impressionable minds, and it comes in the form of authority of the beloved football coach. if you had to handicap the chances of this thing going to pass, what would you say? >> i don't think that it is going to pass. >> no? >> and because the kids when it comes down to it, their education, and the scholarship, and the potential to go play in the nfl is at risk if they don't play football and they have to transe fer. it is a very difficult process, so my chances of it actually passing, i would say very slim. >> and alicia, here is the big question that a lot of the folks are asking, if this does pass and defies the odds and does pass, does this then pave the way for paying college football players? >> it is one path being used to hopefully pave -- and yes, one path. what happens is if they pass the vote to unionize, they can ask northwestern to come to the collective bargaining table.
