the press in a few moment, and they are scheduled for a short legislation session before campaigning begins. and michael grimm promises not the quit even though he was caught in a scandal. does the gop have a problem on their hands? and we begin with a weather system right now that experts say is putting 75 million at risk for severe weather, tornado tornadoes, winds and hail and taking lives and threatening more of the same in the southeast, and now we are moving into the third day of this weather trouble. since sunday, 28 people have died, 106 tornadoes have been reported and just over the last 48 hours. check out this video that storm chasers shot as they were heading into one of monday's tornadoes that slammed into columbus, mississippi. in limestone county, alabama, check out the trailer park or what was a trailer park, and now it looks like piles of splintered wood. in alabama, giant trees were
7:01 am
smashed into homes and businesses, and more trouble is on the way. we go right to sam champion, and over to you, and check out the most serious storm track and where the most dangerous winds are to be. >> you are right, chris, on the number, a a thand they are stag. with all of the experts working on that, we will have a repeat and reloading of the storms today. you can see the active line, and first of all, chris, i want to show you this, this is the area of low pressure starting from here, and all of the way to the coastline, and that low right there that is driving all of it, and bringing the moisture, and pulling it up from the gulf, and the atlantic, and all of it is heavy, heavy rain, and waiting to be heated up today, and these are the leftover storms last night rolling through south florida and into south georgia. what we believe will happen later on today, and heavy rain here, and flood alerts for that all of the way up to the east
7:02 am
coast as the rain is loaded, but what we believe will happen today is the same zone yesterday will refire again today, and it is not a tiny zone. if you go here and look at detroit at the top of the map, and then come all of the way down to new orleans, it is 933 miles in a stretch there, and then all of the way to the coastline. so this is today's weather thre threat. it is so slow moving because of the giant low that we showed you is blocked to the north by an area of high pressure, and blocked out of the atlantic by another high. well, slowly at the end of of the day today, that eastern high will give way a little bit to allow the front to finally move. and tomorrow, we think that this is the zone that is loaded up for the storms, the carolinas, the east coast of georgia and all of the way down into the eastern corner of florida, so it is two more days. it is to dday, and even the stos that you saw leaving, more are firing today into the night tonight, and another one tomorrow that we are watching, chri chris. >> and we can see the area where the most severe threat is, but it is also moving up the east
7:03 am
coast, and what should we expect here? >> well, yeah, what we are driving your way is the heavy rain, and lot of the severe stuff is going to stay in the southern areas, and from the carolinas tomorrow to maybe the virginia/carolina coastline south is where it is severe, but we have a day and a half of rain, because you will start out with the clouds in the northeast, and the rain is going to start swinging up, and it is so much, soaking heavy rain for you, it is going to be wait a minute, this is different and unusual, and it is not a rainy da day, but it is easily one to two inches of rain anywhere you get rain from this today to overnight, and continues tomorrow until we squeeze the front off of the coastline and the mid-atlantic heavy rain, and the northeast heavy rain, and it is going to slow everything down once it gets going tonight to tomorrow. >> and thank you, sam champion for the update. and we are looking at the news coming out of kennesaw, georgia.

five in their game tonight. and now i want to welcome in our guests michael skolnik, globalgrind.com, and etan thomas, a former nba player. and so michael, fine him up to $2.5 million, and suspended indefinitely, and kicking him out of the league is more difficult, and what should the nba do and what will they do? >> well, adam silver has a clear decision to make on his hands, and this is to kick donald sterling out of the nba for life, and this cannot be tolerate and what free agent wants to go play for him, and the bigger question, chris, as a society, we can ask for sacrifices from the heat, and the clipper ss and the other players, but what do we do to sol isv racism and discrimination in this country. and what are we willing to give up? donald steriling is is not the
7:07 am
only one who makes comments like this, but it is a problem that is systemic, and problem that has lasted for centuries in the country, and as a nation we have to stand up and say not to just donald sterling, but to ourselves, and we will not accept this >> so how important, etan, for the nba to make a firm stand and put it in context of not just the team or these players or the fans, but in the nba as a whole, but when you look at the big picture, how important is the message that going to be sent today? >> well, it is extremely important, the great philosopher edmond burke said that the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. at first, it was michael jordan speaking out, and now other people are following suit, and that is good. and players should look at who is speaking out and who is
7:08 am
staying silent, either part of the solution orb part of the problem, but maybe other ceos can vote him out if so need be, and they can have 3/4 of a vote, and vote him out, but i think that he is going to do the right thing, but it is interesting. i look at the agents, and i don't hear anything from them. i am looking at the happy wallers and the dan fakens, and the rob palinkas, and seven of them that represent most of the player, and they are silent in this, but we need everybody to speak out, and use their platform to show how ug hly this is. but adam silver -- >> well, michael, it is not something new, and i mean, etan, sorry, you have an op-ed in the "huffington post," and you say that nobody should be surprised by the allegations of donald sterling, because he paid $3 mi million just to settle a housing discrimination in 2006, because he didn't want blacks or latinos in his apartments, and so is
7:09 am
there again, a bigger question for the nba, for the league, have they put up for it too long, and now is the chance with this very white hot spotlight on them to move in a different direction? >> well, it is not a question that they put up with it too long, but the ball is in adam silver's court. he is analytical person, and i did not think that he would make a decision quickly. i sat across the table from him in the lockout, and i watched him, and he is a good man, but the level of disgust for this needs to be reflected in the punishment, and it can't be a slap on the wrist and paula deen him or don imus him, and come back like nothing happened when the media died down, but they have to do what leslie alexander, the ceo of the h houston rockets said, he needs to cut out the ownership with the blade and drive it into the heart of his ownership, and it is kind of a "game of throne" quote, but he has to be removed
7:10 am
from the situation permanently, and he can't come back. >> and we know that there was a wrongful termination lawsuit with exec elgin baylor and he said that a southern plantation-type atmosphere, and hall of famer kareem abdul jabar talked about it last night. >> in the plantations, you had men of africa making the money for the cotton growers, and you had the women from africa being sexually exploited by the cotton grow whole time they looked down on the people to be inferiors and mr. sterling has adopted that as the methodology. >> and, so michael, how do we take this and move forward? >> well, as etan, my dear friend said that nobody is should be surprised by the remarks, but nobody should be existed that racism like this exists. just last week when the supreme court justices got rid of affirmative action in the state
7:11 am
of michigan, there is not a call for the end of the supreme court justices, as that structure, but there are people in this country from dreamers to dream defenders who are fighting for more compassionate and tolerant and generous america, and we have to believe that these thoughts and the ideals of the racism, and the discrimination that the older people are going to hold on to are going to die off, and the young people will fight for a better nation. >> and there is a question of what we have been seeing happening on the koushgts etan, and we saw what the heat did, and tonight, the fans apparently are going to be making a statement at the staples center, and there is a twitter #black out staples to encourage all of the fans to wear all black, and one part of it as somebody who is a fan of sports and you have to feel for the fans, and i m n mean, this may be a small part of it, but you have a team that has not won in such a long time, or have they ever won a championship? have they ever, and now they have an opportunity etan, and that is taken away, but clearly these fans also want to make a
7:12 am
statement, and how do the fans fit into this? >> well, i mean, some things are bigger than basketball. i understand that they are a great team, a and that i have a special opportunity, but this is more important than basketball right now. so all of the eyes are going to be on the adam silver here in a few hours to see exactly what he does. and a lot of the players are getting criticism because of the level of protest that they did, but it should not be up to them. they have to wait and allow adam silver to have his due process to see what he is going to do, and then time to react if the punishment is not what it should be, but adam silver is a good man, and he believes in the integrity of the nba, and the image of the nba, and donald sterling's comments have even hurt the nba financially, and over a dozen different sponsors are pulling out, so there is definitely reason to remove him both business-wise and eth ethically, so we will have to the wait and see what he does. >> thank you both for coming in,
