>> "caught on camera hellraisers and trailblazers." >> i was literally begging for my daughter's life. >> horrifying moments inside of a grocery store for a mother and her daughters. >> nobody would suspect he was getting ready to do what he did. >> june 17th, 2013, it's a weekday afternoon for the midwest city, oklahoma police department led by police chief randall clays. across the street security cameras are recording outside and inside this local wall mamplt nothing looks unusual including this man sammy wallace who's seen walking across the parking lot an in to the store.

>> in the surveillance tape you see sammy walk aimlessly throughout the store going through different aisles, walking around. acting like he is on his cell phone. >> cameras are positioned in the back of the store an the security camillia terry ra shows alicia grocery shopping with her daughters, 12-year-old ashley and sitting in the cart 2-year-old zoe. >> mom is going to the milk, produce aisle, taking things and putting them in the shopping cart and doesn't notice sammy wallace walking through the store. zoe makes eye contact with him and you can see sammy looks at her. >> wallace walks by but a few moments circles back. he walks up to the cart and snatches zoe out of her seat. when keating turns around she can't comprehend what's happening. >> here's this huge, huge man standing there with my daughter in his arms. my first reaction is this can't be real?

does he really have my baby, who is this. he said, hey little mama, you see this knife. >> the knife has a five-inch serrated blade and wallace is pressuring it against zoe's side. he hands keating his cell phone and makes a bizarre demand that she call a man named kevin in dallas. >> she is trying to do what he requests but she is nervous and can't get the number pulled up and call it. >> i was going to do everything in my power to make sure the baby didn't leave the store with him. i panicked and started to scream at the top of my lungs. please help me. this man has my baby. please help me. as soon as i had everybody's attention, the store got eerily quiet and everyone crowded around. >> with zoe under his arm a, wallace starts to walk away. >> i followed him along. all i knew is i dwant to leave my baby's side. >> the 12-year-old sister is in shock because she sees what is happening and we have a patron

who's a preacher, a local preacher here in oklahoma. he blocks wallace's path with the shopping cart and he says my name is sammy. you can look at my license and see. and then we got 911 calls. >> there is someone with a knife holding a girl hostage. he is in the meat department. i'm trying no to let him see me on the phone. >> moments after the calls come in, police rush to take positions around the store and evacuate the area. >> the s.w.a.t. team has arrived. we are trying to take tactical positions. captain huff and sergeant miller who are our crisis negotiators arrive at the scene and start rapport with sammy wallace. we find out who he is, sammy wallace. we start doing a criminal background check and see if anyone is familiar with him. he has a pair of sunglasses on. he throws them on the ground.

>> while negotiators engage wallace, zoe's mother is frantically pleaded for his daughter. >> he wouldn't listen. he wouldn't put the knife down. i put my hands down and said in jesus name save my baby. please save my baby. >> she is agitating the situation and had to force her from the scene for her protection and the protection of zoe. we wanted to negotiate it in to a peaceful end. her daughter is taken out of the store. wallace is increasingly erratic and exhibits signs of mental illness. >> he is talking about illuminoty which is a group that talks about conspiracy theories. he feels like the government is watching him and indicates that president bush has been watching him. and he continues to ask us to call kevin, this dallas police officer.

so we actually get ahold of kevin and kevin doesn't know mr. wallace only knows he has his naub numbers and calls him so many times it is almost to an harassing point. >> they offer him a chair to sit sgloun it was a tactical advantage for us because we knew we had his movement restricted. if we have to shoot mr. wallace the child won't fall from six foot level of height but smaller level. >> zoe is remarkably calm but wallace is deteriorating by the minute. >> he's sweating profusely, agitated and irritated. david, who's trained in crisis intervention knows that mr. wallace is having a manic episode. he's trying to calm him down. >> after 30 minutes of negotiations, wallace still isn't cooperating. instead he begins to count down. >> get kevin here within 60 minutes or i'm going to hufrt this child. then it accelerated to 30 minutes and then 60 seconds.

he started in ten thes. he went 60, 40, 30, 20, and captain huff knew this is critical and at the same time he takes the knife from the rib cage and puts it to her chin and neck and the child starts to squirm. that's when captain huff felt the child was injured. >> wallace's countdown doesn't stop and captain huff is forced to make a decision. >> in this case when he has the child so close to him and close to his head he knew he had one option, to shoot him in the head. he knew it had to be point blank range. he tried to squat down to divert his attention. he looks to the left, which was a good tactical approach on our part. >> captain huff walks toward wallace, points his weapon at wallace's head and pulls the trigger. >> i heard the shot go off and i thought, oh, my god, they just killed her.

i thought she's dead. i just started screaming and jumping around. >> the shot kills sammy wallace and saves the life of 2-year-old zoe. >> captain huff takes zoe out of sammy's arms. immediately hands her off to sergeant miller who rushes her up to alicia, who's at the front of the store. >> when i saw zoe i nearly flew through that door. she had blood all over her. he kept saying it's not her blood. it's not her blood. she's okay. i reached out and grabbed her and pulled her in to me. it was the best moment. it was the best moment of my life. >> come here. can i have a kiss? >> the s.w.a.t. team approaches wallace, remove the knife, and wallace falls to the floor. that's how we disarmed him. he literally still had the knife clinched in his hand even after shot in the head. >> d police discovered wallace had spent the last decade

incarcerated in texas prisons. >> we learned from his family he was paranoid schizophrenic, not taking his medication. >> i felt sorry for him. my heart broke for him. i don't want anybody to die and i pray for his family. >> we had no choice. sammy wallace dictated the end of the situation. david huff is a hero. this will affect captain huff for the rest of his life. i'm sure his heart was in the middle of his throat when he pulled the trigger, but he saved that child's life. >> it is because of his decision that my daughter is alive. when i watch her play i've never been more thankful. coming up, an overachiever at dizzying heights. >> i was so nervous about jumping with her. i had never taken anyone that old. >> three, two, one. >> and later -- a judge doesn't take bad behavior sitting down.

you may have seen face jumpers before but probably never met a thrill seeker like 102-year-old dorothy custer. with only a few seconds to pull the chute, face jumping is not for the faint of heart. it's a thrill that world renowned base jumper sean chase nearly every day in twin falls, idaho. >> i have done 2,150 base jumps as of today. i definitely down to risk my life for it still. it's definitely the passion of my life. it's different from sky diving.

base jumping is more basic. there's no parachute. no time for one. we pack it like it is the only chance, since it is. >> the bridge sits 500 feet above the snake river in twin falls and it's a hot spot for base jumpers that can legally jump from the bridge any day of the week without a permit. >> i jump off this bridge, i'd say probably four days a week, about five times a day, on average, about 20 jumps a week. >> three, two, one, see ya! i feel very confident in what i'm doing. i don't feel like i'm taking a huge risk every time. fun stuff. >> living just a few minutes away from the action of the bridge is 102-year-old twin falls resident dorothy custer. ♪

>> there was a guy from new york who said playing harmonica is the best thing in the world for your lungs. so i kept it up. >> player harmonica hasn't been the only key to her longevity. dorothy thinks it is all in her head. think positive and help others. that's why we are here on this earth. >> for her 102nd birthday, her grandson proposed an idea. knowing her love of adventure, he thought she should celebrate a big birthday in a bold way. >> greg, her grandson call canned me one day. i told them i would take people on tandem base jumps and he asked if i could take dorothy. i said i need to meet her and see if she is in good physical condition enough to do it. a couple of days later i went and visited her. she's so sharp. she was actually in really good

shape for 102 years old. that's when i decided to go for it. >> i said, would you jump and i said, i don't see why not. as i said there's only two things that happen. i could either make it or i wouldn't and either way it didn't make any difference. >> reporter: june 2nd, 2013, sean and dorothy get suited up for their tandem jump from the middle of the bridge. >> i put her in full body armor, pad s made for motorcross just in case we jumped in to anything. i didn't want her to get hurt. >> cameras are positioned to capture every angle on sean's helmet, dorothy's hand and another base jumper who will jump alongside them. >> we had to have her climb over the rail which was going to be challenging. so we brought a ladder out. >> i climbed over the ladder and got over the railing on to this stand. >> then i just grabbed her because she only weighs 90

pounds and put her down on the platform. >> he was right there hanging on to me. there was nothing to be afraid of at all. i had all the confidence in the world in sean. >> sean and dorothy are standing on a platform that is affixed to the end of the sglij we had to turn to where her feet were over the edge. that's the hardest part when they jump because it is not a natural thing. it is the things that bad dreams are made of. >> i wasn't nervous. it didn't bother me a bit. heights just don't bother me. i climbed too many trees and too many high haystacks. >> her camera's good? >> yep. >> now there's nothing left to do but jump. >> i was so nervous about jumping with her. i never had taken anyone that old. i asked if she was ready and she just, with this hardened voice she said. >> ready. >> there was no hesitation.

she wasn't backing down. we gave it a big countdown and windt for it. three, two, one. it was just silence. she wasn't pushing against me or anything. when the parachute opened she started laughing. and it was hilarious. i just felt hale real calm hearing her laugh because i knew she was fine. when she was silent i wondered if everything was okay just from the opening of the parachute. the landing was definitely going to be the scariest part of the whole thing. that's how most jumpers get hurt. i knew with her i had to have the softest landing i have ever. and i flared the canopy and grabbed her pants and pulled her legs up so her feet barely touched the ground. >> that was so quick. >> all right. >> i can't believe you. [ laughter ]

>> yes! >> oh, boy. that was a thrill. but it was so quick. seemed to me it was fast. it was too short. i wanted to go a little farther. that was so cool. >> her jump may have felt short but it set big records making dorothy a trail blasser as the oldest known base jumper. >> i think i'm the oldest one that was stupid enough to jump off. >> i'm very honored to be part of that. it was a big challenge. i'm happy that i got to do it now her and i are just best friends. >> you have to play for me sometime. >> come out and i will play anything i know. >> okay. >> turkey and the straw or whatever. >> i think it is a huge inspiration for the whole world to keep on doing things and not have excuses that they are old. she's 102. she did it.

affidavit, soto had been found the day before with small bags of xanax in her purse she did not have a prescription for. in order to set her bond, the court just first determine soto's assets. >> are you working? >> yes. >> how much money are you making a week approximately? >> approximately 200 bucks a week. >> do you own any property of value, a house, car, bank accounts, significant amounts of jewelry? >> yes. >> what do you own. >> i own a lot of jewelry all right. and a car. >> how much would you say your jewelry is worth? it's not a joke. we are not in a club now. >> it's kind of -- >> it is -- >> be is serious about it. >> you are serious. you just make me laugh. i apologize. >> it's all right. how much is your jewelry worth? >> like what. >> like --

that impairment, even though i don't condone her actions, led her to the conduct that was contemptuous before you. >> soto's attorney brings forward an administrator from an outpatient mental drug and rehab facility who evalwatd soto while she was in jail. >> she presented symptoms ofening a zeierty. this is common for substance abuse and she consumed alcohol, they combine it with xanax and it is dangerous. >> soto's mother is next to testify. >> tell her about soto and her behavior with you. >> sweet. kind and concerned always. about everyone. >> finally, it's soto's turn to address the judge. >> my behavior was very irrational and i apologize.

just outside of montreal, is kingsbury's training ground and it's there he got the big idea to break a world record. the source of his inspiration, a 35-year-old photograph of a 19-person back flip on skis. >> i saw the picture here in the bar. i was thinking about it for a couple of years. i was sitting here with the owner of the mountain and asked if it would be fobl do it again and not beat the record by not a little bit but much more and i said if you find the people i will build you a jump and we'll do it. i know a lot of people that are good skiers. >> april 14th, 2013, at the top of the mountain kingsbury preps for a potentially record-breaking day with a whopping 30 skiers ready to

attempt the jump. family and friends watch in anticipation, capturing it all on camera. >> i went like this. i was moving, moving. i was like oh, we're going to be limit 25. the jump is not large enough. so i was kind of nervous at first. >> for their first practice run, kingsbury starts fall, performing the back flip with just one other person. so far so good. so kingsbury ups the ante, each time adding more and more people. >> we did a group of 12, and then 18 so we don't break the record now. we did 18. okay. let's put everyone now. >> all 30 skiers get in to

formation at the top of the jump, and off they go. they make the flip. woo! >> once airborne, some of the skiers lose their grips and their hand-to-hand chain is broken. the group sets up to give it one more try. >> everybody was excited and we said three, two, loud, go. and then the people that were higher because it was flatter had to go first. and everybody jump pretty much at the same time. >> this time, a record-breaking success. >> the landing was perfect. the photographer catches the jump frame by frame. >> it's impressive to see 30 people at the same time do a back flip and land pretty much at the same time.

wasn't just to beat the record a cool event to have fun and if you do win worldwide. >> from a moment of greatness that's one for the record books to a moment of greatness that's the difference between life and death. >> miss are you all right? >> october 18th, 2013, nfta bus driver darnell barton is working his route enough buffalo, new york at the beginning of the rush hour. he picks up students at a high school and heads across the overpass. the closed circuit cameras are recording when he notices a woman across the guardrail leaning over the narrow edge. traffic is rushing by beneath her and the woman appears to be on think brink of suicide. >> she was looking down and teetering a little. i thought it was fake.

pedestrian walked by, a cyclist rode by. that added to me not thinking it was real because of the normalcy going on around her. >> even though others are passing the woman by, barton decides to stop his bus that's full of passengers. >> i thought that if this were a loved one of mine, or me, what would i want someone to do for me? that's what i thought. i said i'm going to stop. i'm going to stop. i don't know what's going to happen but i'm going to stop. >> miss, are you all right? miss. ma'am? >> ma'am? are you okay? >> when i called out to her, she kind of looked back at me and then looked back down at the ground at the under passing traffic again.

you could tell she was sad. ma'am, are you okay? i wanted to stop her from looking at the under passing traffic and get her mind off of that. >> barton makes a call to dispatch asking they send help and fast. what happens next is remarkable. ma'am, are you okay? ma'am? >> so i walked really slowly towards her. i had my hand out and not doing anything to try to startle her. and at that point she turned around and started to look back at the traffic again. so that's when i kind of lunged and grabbed her and wrapped my arms around her. >> instead of pulling the woman across the guardrail, barton poses a question to her. i said, do you want to come on the right side of the guardrail? that's the first time she spoke when she said yes.

i ask canned her a question to kind of a, put her at ease. because this is a stranger grabbing me. and also, to give her the feeling of power, if you will, saying, okay. i still have a choice. i have to make a decision. i have to think about what do i really want? do i want to jump? do i want to come on the right side of the guardrail? >> with his arm around the woman, barton waits until an ambulance arrives. when he gets back on the bus, it's to a rousing round of applause. [ applause ] barton finishes his bus route for the day and heads home. things are back to normal. that is until barton's employer takes notice of the video and decides to share it with the public. within a couple of weeks, the video becomes a worldwide

sensation. >> i remember getting a text message, hey, man, you are trending on something -- i didn't know what that meant either. said, that's cool. not knowing what it meant. and the mayor made may 7th barton day. i'm a private person. so this is culture shock for me. i'm truly honored. >> billionaire businessman donald trump gets wind of the story and sends out a tweet that makes a generous offer to barton for $10,000. >> this is very special and he's a special guy. he has to be rewarded for that. >> i'd like to say i'm going to -- oom i don't know by a bentley but i am going to pay bills and, you know, i don't want to take some of the money and start something that is long lasting and can benefit other people. >> as for the twhoom pass people

rest of the world isn't. manny uploads the video to his you tube channel and the prank takes off, wracking up millions of views. >> my jaw dropped and it kept climbing. saber was kind of mad because she's like 2 million people are laughing at me. i was in the dog house for a while. >> it isn't the only time especially when manny forces his wife to face her biggest fears in a prank. >> my son had a rubber snake that looked real. i was like, let's just see what happens. >> my wife is terrified of snakes, bugs, spiders, and so we're going to use a are rubber snake in the toilet. i put the snake in the toilet and left the head sitting on the rim and closed the lid and i like to hide my camera so they are not seen. when she does her chores and sees the bowl we will see reaction. >> i have to pe e!

[ screaming ] >> i just saw something long and swirly so in an instant i thought it's a snake. >> as if saber hadn't had enough of a scare, manny has another creepy crawly prank. >> she has a set of gloves that were furry on the outside and they were bald up and thought at this time looked like a creaturing. i put it under a table and attached a fishing screen. i pulled the string and looked like it was crawling out from under the table. she came in the door and saw it. >> manny, that's not funny. >> but when somebody says it's not funny. >> that's not fun. >> it's always funny. so we ended up laughing about it afterwards. >> for manny, anyone is fair

game for a pranking including his son caden. >> my son, he does not like people in costumes for some reason but it was halloween and i had a big foot costume and decided to try it on to show him it was okay. daddy's in a costume. when i came out of the bathroom, it didn't go so good. august 25th, 2013, on a sunday night in wayne, new jersey, employees at a local store called buddy's small lots get some disturbing news. >> i got the phone call from nelson, our vice president. he said, there was a break in wayne and i'm there now. i don't know what happened. i don't know, you know, how bad it is. >> so i got to the store and realized right away we had problem with the lock. there seemed to be an electrical malfunction. the locks didn't lock properly and went back to the office and started to look at surveillance tapes. >> he saw four boys coming down the stairs and said oh, here we go. this is it. we have been robbed. two boys have things in their hands. definitely things are miss sfwlg who are these four young men seemingly caught in the act. take a closer look. they are not burglars. they are students at the nearby william patterson university.

thomas james, kelly, anthony, and bruce are all players on the school's football team, the pioneers. >> we had a break from the first practice and decided to go shopping because thomas needed batteries for his remote controller and thomas needed something. >> the security cameras captured their entrance. >> we saw the lights were flickering. we thought it was part of the get up because they had halloween costumes. >> usually when you see halloween stuff it is somebody trying to jump out at you. got you. >> halloween is not the best time of year for me. i'm a punk. i'm scared of a lot of things. i'm short so i have to be scared. >> we stay theed close. i'm not going to stay we were scared but we stayed close and we saw the lights and stuff on.

we were like, oh, they are open. >> we drove that far and wanted to get what we were going for. we spent a minute searching for the items. we walked around and stood at the counter for about five minutes waiting and looked 'this time. we had to get back for meetings. we were debating should we leave the money or put back the stuff and leave. >> just then james spots the security camera. >> we have no choice but though leave the money because it would be they probably took something. >> he leaves $4 for his cable on the counter all making sure it is in plain sight for the camera's lens. james follows paying the dollar it costs for his batteries. as if wasn't honest enough, they take it one step further. >> i told tommy, just leave extra change because i knee, like, in new jersey the tax is 7% of a dollar. so if you only buy something that is a dollar your tax will

be seven cents. i told him to leave enough for both of us because i had no change and he need change. >> all of a sudden you see them go to the register and put money down. whoa, really? what's that? what's happening. he is counting out. he realized there's a camera and he's going tax, so he is putting tax on the counter as well. who does that? gr for the buddy's employees reviewing the security footage it becomes clear. >> we leave emergency lights on a lot. apparently when the locks malfunctioned it appeared as though we could be open. so the boys pushed the door and it opened. so why wouldn't you come in? turns out these young men aren't hellraisers but trail blazers in the doing the rhyme thing department. the buddy's employees decide to reach out to local news to help track down these guys. >> my brother called and asked me you know you are on the news, right. and first thing that came to my mind, is it bad.

and he said no, they want to congratulate you guys. >> the video makes national news. >> character is what you do when nobody is watching. you did the right thing so congratulations. thank you for joining us. >> buddy's small lots rewards them for their honesty. >> we'd like to thank them and give them gift and gift certificates which the four came back oochlt. >> i am glad i met these friends that agree that stealing is wrong and not the right thing to do. >> you don't see kids can every day doing the right thing. you expect us to steal because we are so young. >> it shows even though we are young, african-american, italian, dread, short cut, afro, we're good people we do the right thing because we're raised to do think right thing. >> my kelly don't call me kelly nobody.
