and potential new answers for how this high wire act went so wrong at a rhode island circus. the answers we have. this is "way too early." ♪ hey, everyone. good morning. i'm thomas roberts. it is tuesday, may 6 president then welcome to "way too early" the show that always flies coach but ask for the exit row because the leg room is amazing. we're going to start talking about b a nigerian terror group that kidnaps hundreds of girls and threatens to sell them into slavery. the leader of boko haram releasing this video yesterday. more than 300 teen girls were taken from their boarding school by militants who oppose western education. they consider it to be a sin. some of those girls escaped, but

according to reports, others were forced to marry their abductors who paid $12 for them. there has been this massive protest in nigeria with accusing the president of that country of not bringing the girls back to their families. you may have noticed an explosion on social media with the #bring back our girls. now to the ukraine where kiev is stepping up its advances in the country. and an elite unit from the national guard is now deployed to odessa to try to keep it under control. ukrainian control. ukraine is also pushing to regain control in the east. multiple explosions and heavy gunfire were reported as ukrainian forces and pro-russian militants clashed. the interior minister claims 30 insurgents have been killed during the clashes. and the airport in a key eastern city is closed this morning

after violent clashes there. video showing shooting down a helicopter, and there is a flame near the back of the helicopter. no injuries were reported. house speaker john boehner is lining up leadership of a select committee that will investigate the 2012 attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi. congressman trey gowdy, a two-term republican from south carolina is going to be heading up that panel. the house speaker says gowdy's background as a federal prosecutor makes him the ideal choice here, but the white house may not go along with the investigation suggesting the committee is the latest attempt by republicans to politicize an attack that left four americans dead. >> we have always cooperated with legitimate oversight. all of the seven separate congressional investigations, all of the committees that have participated in those investigations, all of the administration personnel who have briefed or testified

because of those investigations, everyone who -- >> legitimate oversight? >> i think if you look at even what some republicans have said, it certainly casts doubt on legitimacy of an effort that is so partisan in nature. house minority whips say democrats will be urged to vote against the select committee. hot temperatures are expected to hamper efforts in oklahoma to contain a deadly wildfire. the fire is being blamed for at least one death. a man who refused to leave his home late last night is the one who perished. it was about 75% contained at one point. officials say the fire burned more than 3,000 acres and it destroyed several houses as well. about 1,000 people who were evacuated are now returning home. the wildfire is believed to have started as a controlled burn although authorities were not notified it was going to be taking place. it's a decision about the separation of church and state. in a 5-4 vote the supreme court ruled yesterday that prayers before public meetings can be

considered constitutional. the case centered around town council meetings in greece, new york. pete williams has more. >> reporter: justice anthony kennedy said the government cannot sensor religious speech or require only the most generic reference to the sacred. as long as the prayer doesn't denigrate nonbelievers or religious minorities, threaten damnation, or preach conversion, he said it's acceptable. >> it's beyond even religion. it's freedom of speech. it's a reaffirming what your country was founded on. zblb unlike in public schools where prayer is still banned, people are free to come and go at public meetings. but the town's prayers were steeped in one faith. justice kagan said every citizen regardless of religion owns an equal share in the government. >> the country's religious diversity is expand bing yet here comes the sfreemt saying it's okay for a city to impose

majority rules prayer on the entire community. >> that was nbc's pete williams reporting. the majority also said the founding fathers approved of having a prayer before starting a session of congress. authorities are now narrowing their focus on what caused a high wire act accident at a circus in rhode island over the weekend. officials believe that a clasp found in three separate pieces is to blame. they're trying to determine if the part was broken or perhaps used improperly. eight female acrobats and one man on the ground were injured when a metal beam fell 30 feet during the performance. four are in serious condition and four others are listed in good condition. the nation's largest veterans group is calling for a major shakeup at the department of veterans air forces. calling the resignation of secretary eric shinseki. the legion's national commander says, quote, there needs to be a change. and that change needs to occur

at the top to cover up mistakes is unforgivable as is fostering a culture of nondisclosure. the second largest vet group veterans of foreign wars stands by shinseki. the group says shinseki must re-establish credibility with the veterans community. moving on now to business news for you. stocks rallied yesterday. all three ended in positive territory and the dow joer came a triple-digit drop after hearing the service sector grew. jeff is live in london for us. what are you watching today? >> hey, good morning to you. the look at the futures for your markets are positive. so it looks like there will be some follow through from what has been a good european session so far here. but the more interesting action has been in the dollar. and i must point out we've seen the dollar hit a 6 1/2 month low against the euro and the pound

sterling here. a lot of that is down to the fact we just didn't see the currency bounce on some of the better news. so traders have taken it in the opposite direction here. good news for u.s. exporters. maybe not such great news if you're on american planning to take a holiday in paris this summer. but let me move you along. we have a swiss bank to talk about. the irs is a little like the mounters. they get their man in the end. credit suisse looks like they'll have to shell out $1.5 billion if they plead guilty to helping americans evade taxes. this case has been going on for awhile here, but it looks like we might be in the end game with prosecutors now trying to persuade credit suisse, we think, to go for that guilty plea. which would mean they pay the fine and then they get to move on. so that's a quick wrapup of some of the key business stories we're watching for you this hour. >> before i let you go, the
