it's been almost three weeks since hundreds of school girls were abducted by islamic terrorists in nigeria, and now the u.s. is sending a team of technical experts in the country to help bring the girls home. demonstrations continue to take place in cities across the globe. u.s. lawmakers brought attention to the situation as well with a moment of silence. at least two senators are asking the president to place boko haram on the national list of terror groups. nbc's ann curry has more. >> reporter: a first glimpse of one of the school girls who escaped an attempt to hide her identity describing the night she and her classmates were kidnapped. we were sleeping at night. suddenly there were some soldiers to come in and asked us all to get ready because we were being attacked by boko haram that night. we were happy to be in safe hands but they weren't safe, the

soldiers turned out to be the very militants who thought they were saving. secretary of state john kerry called nigeria's president for help finding the girls. nigeria said yes. >> what we've done, we've offered and military and law enforcement officials we're going to do everything we can to provide assistance to them. >> reporter: military and intelligence assistance and expert peace and hostage negotiations. international response to the kidnapping was slow at first, but this map shows how word spread on social media. the #bring back our girls exploding around the world over 12 days, reaching 1 million so far. the story of nigeria's missing school girls of ruthless terrorism has touched a nerve around the world. >> it's painful, it's outrage. >> reporter: the terrorists are bent on ending western education in nigeria. their biggest weapon is fear.

and it may be working. the girl who escaped when asked if she would go back to school said, no, i cannot go back. i cannot. >> that is nbc's ann curry reporting. climate change matters that is the message president obama is stressing following the national climate assessment. the report draws a connection between human activities and the uptake in global temperatures over the last several decades. president obama is highlighting the need for quick action. >> we want to emphasize to the public this is not just some distant problem with the future. it is a problem that is affecting americans right now. whether it means increased flooding, greater vulnerability to drought. more severe wildfires. all these things are having an impact on americans as we speak. >> nbc's al roker was one of a handful of journalists who got to discuss climate issue with the president. and you can see more of his interview coming up on td.

midterm primary results are in this morning and major races in north carolina, thomas tillis claimed victory over the tea party challengers. he can take on democratic senator kate hague innocent fall. and foreign "american idol" star clay aiken holds the lead in the democratic house primary but the margin is just too narrow to declare victory just yet. and in ohio, republicans named john boehner the party's nominee. the white house was briefly on lockdown yesterday. a suspicious car was caught trailing the motorcade carrying the first daughters. the driver made it past the pennsylvania avenue barricade and made it into a restricted area. it turns out the driver had a pass to the treasury department but did not have security clearance at the white house checkpoint. he was taken into custody. the u.s. is urging the

ukraine to proceed with the may 25th election but russia wants it postponed. violence in the rege is threatening to sabotage the upcoming and pro-russian groups in eastern ukraine are planning to hold a may 11th vote to secede from ukraine-secretary of state john kerry dismissed that effort as bogus and contrived. >> we flatly reject this illegal effort to further divide ukraine. >> russia annexed crimea after a similar vote back in march. have you have to check this out. we have new video from a california teen's amazing stowaway journey and it surfaced. security showed the teen emerging from a wheel well april 20th after a 5 1/2-flight to hawaii. despite low oxygen and freezing temperatures at 35,000 feet, he managed to walk away from the aircraft seemingly unscathed.

now, for your first look at business, we turn to cnbc's seema mody, good morning. it was a tough day for wall street. today, look for data out on productivity and labor costs. plus, fed chief janet yellen is testifying before congress about the economy. chinese company alibaba with what could be the highest tech offering ever. analysts say the company could be valued at as much as $200 billion. alibaba makes more money than amazon and ebay combined. and reporting positive earnings thanks to the blockbuster hit "frozen" which has grofded $1.2 billion worldwide. disney will use "frozen" at its themes parks and is developing a

broadway show. thank you. here's other stories we're following for you the first of eight acrobats involved in sunday's circus act are out of the hospital this morning. the acrobats are attempting what was known as a human chandelier when the equipment snapped, seeing it right there, sending them to the ground. a performer heard a huge crack and she said she plans to return to the show. there is video and it shows new york city at night and it's an amendment to actually drive traffic to the trio's website which asks for money to help with legal fees. the men were in court facing charges that include burglary and reckless endangerment. >> after making numerous headlines, people are now asking just where is toronto mayor ford? well, it looked like he was headed to rehab in chicago though he never got off the plane. his brother says he is in rehab

but won't say where. we'll keep you posted. a college student got an unexpected delivery this week when he accidentally received packages containing part of a u.s.-owned drone. the student is in the process of returning the drone to the proper department. i think i would, too. next time you're outside, better look up and wave because you, my friend, will be on television. nasa is now streaming a live hd feed of the earth from cameras aboard the international space station. this feed is up and on their website, though you might have to look really hard to see yourself. coming up, the clinton affair. plus, could yog gust be banned as a snack in new york? politics is next.

seats? >> yeah, tillis is only the second republican in the house in north carolina since reconstruction. so it's expected the democrats will focus in on that record. republicans likely to turn around and say, hey, at least this guy has accomplishments to talk about. kate hagan hasn't done necessarily as much as she could have in the past years. and where in the world is toronto mayor rob ford? you know, she's supposed to be in rehab. his brother said, no, no, he's there but won't say where. what the heck is going on, ed? >> well, to not disclose where he is probably makes sense because we'll show up and get him in even more trouble. >> no, we would never do that. what are you talking about? >> if he is doing that and he wants to get well, more power to him. certainly more months to go until his election if he intends to stick with it. i still scratch my heads to the
