the interview that scorches the earth between him and magic johnson. look here. one of these two people is accusing the other of having brain damage. why it might be the accuser who actually has it. and the u.s. is involved in finding the nigerian girls. are they any closer? this is "way too early." ♪ hey, hey, everybody. good morning. i'm thomas roberts. it is tuesday, may 13th. welcome to "way too early," the show that's always in a good mood for good apology especially when that apology needs another apology. wait until you hear more about sterling. then we'll get to solange and jay z, the elevator video everybody is talking about this. we don't understand. but let me get to the serious news of the morning. we begin with the latest updates on the search from the nearly 300 missing school girls that are held hostage in nigeria.

the u.s. flying manned surveillance planes over nigeria in an effort to find these young girls. the u.s. is also helping that country's government analyze satellite photos. it follows yesterday's release of a photo that shows about 100 of the children. they are reciting the koran. many believe they may have been split up by their captors. the leader of boko haram also appears in a video with an assault rifle. he says he will free the girls for the release of militant prisoners. they're hoping the video will be used to find where the girls are. >> our intelligence experts are combing over every detail of it for clues that might help in the ongoing efforts to help secure the release of the girls. president obama has directed his team to do everything it can to support the nigerian

government's efforts to find these girls. >> about 50 girls escaped during the kidnapping. boko haram has threatened to sell them off into slavery or to marriage. also overseas, germany's foreign minister is in ukraine this morning to lead the talks between two breakaway regions in the east. russia is praising germany's attempts to resolve the crisis. separatists in russian-speaking provinces over the weekend voted for independence. moscow says it, quote, respects the voters' choice but kremlin stopped short of accepting them into the russian federation. ukraine's president meanwhile is calling the elections, quote, a farce. the white house is also criticizing the elections and says the u.s. will not recognize the results. the eu has announced a new round of sanctions for 13 people including vladimir putin's first deputy chief of staff. he was previously sanctioned by the united states. and moscow is threatening to cut

off gas deliveries to ukraine if kiev does not pay its bill for june in advance which adds up to about $20 billion. okay, now to the donald sterling interview. he has now spoken on the record, cameras rolling, fully aware of his remarks and they would be made public. that didn't stop the disgraced clippers owner from sounding off again. in an interview with cnn, sterling says it was jealousy not racism that fueled his conversation with his former mistress. but that wasn't all. sterling only made things worse when what appeared to be a delusioned view including a shocking statement about magic johnson. >> the players don't hate me. the sponsors don't hate me. the fans don't hate me. the media hates. it's all the media pushing it. >> honestly you really believe this is just the media? >> i believe that 100%. i believe because people call me by the thousands to give me

support. >> you think the players of the los angeles clippers -- >> absolutely. they know i'm not a racist. and i'm not a racist. >> what has he done? can you tell me? big magic johnson, what has he done? >> well, he's a business person. >> he's got aids. did he do any business? did he help anybody in south l.a.? >> he has hiv, not full-blown aids. >> what kind of a guy goes to every city and has sex with every girl and catches hiv? is that someone we want to respect and tell our kids about? i think he should be ashamed of himself. i think he should go into the background. but what does he do for the black people? doesn't do anything. >> in response to those remarks about magic johnson, adam silver issued this statement reading in part, quote, i feel compelled on behalf of the nba family to apologize to magic johnson that he continues to be dragged into this situation and be degraded by such a malicious and personal

attack. the nba board of governors is continuing with its process to remove mr. sterling as expeditiously as possible. whoa. republican strategist karl rove isn't just analyzing political races, he's now diagnosing medical conditions of a particular candidate. rove speculated at a conference last week that hillary clinton may have brain damage. he repeated his theory to the audience numerous times. he cited the health scare back in 2012 when she fell and suffered a blood clot. and on thursday rove said, quote, 30 days in the hospital and when she reappears she's wearing glasses only for people who have traumatic brain injury? we need to know what's up with that. it caused her to postpone her testimony on benghazi. supporters note she was hospital iessed for three days, not 30.

quote, please assure mr. rove she's 100%. now to a twist in the race with clay aiken. his primary opponent keith consi crisco died after falling in his home. aiken turned his website black with only this statement displayed. he is now temporarily suspending his campaign. the race is so close it still hasn't been called yet. and official canvassing begins today after last week's ballot had the senator leading by 369 votes. keith crisco was 71 years old. one of the biggest backers of republican candidates, the chamber of commerce, is issuing the party an ultimatum when it comes to the presidential race in 2016. that message from chamber president is pass comprehensive immigration reform or else. >> if the republicans don't do it, they shouldn't bother to run a candidate in 2016. >> wow. >> i mean, think about that.

think about who the voters are. i just did that to get everybody's attention, but -- we are a nation with people without jobs and jobs without people. we need people that we're training in the best universities. and we tell them to go home? when you do that, you send the work to where the people are. >> the party has failed to capture numbers of growing numbers of minorities. congressman john boehner says that he will be back as speaker of the house, but for how long? he isn't sure. the ohio republican says he expects his party to re-elect him as its leader after the midterm elections. still, he would not commit to staying in the post for a two-year term. >> this issue comes up from time to time, probably more often than i'd like. i have a very good relationship with my colleagues. on both sides of the aisle.

>> and across the spectrum of your own? >> even in my own party. even with people who i have disagreements almost every day. i have good relations with them as well. it's open, it's honest, and straightforward. so i'm looking forward to it. >> do you fully expect to serve out your full term, mr. speaker? >> i can't predict what's going to happen. i'm going to be 65 years old in november. i never thought i'd live to be 60. so i'm living on borrowed time. >> congressman boehner made the remarks in san antonio. he also said jeb bush would make a great president and that he has, quote, nudging him to run. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a house to explode in new hampshire yesterday. they believe it all began with a domestic disturbance where a police officer was allegedly shot by the homeowner when he entered the home. reports say the alleged shooter also shot at another officer.

as you see there it later exploded. police believed the shooter died in the fire. we shift attention to talk about business for tuesday. the s&p and dow closed at record highs on monday. steve sedgwick is lye with us in london. good morning. >> good day to you. kbig names moving up. twitter was up. a lot of activity out there as well. which is leading people to increase the prices. elsewhere we have retail sales today. and the games maker reporting. in terms of that big mna, a lot of news flying around at&t and direc directv. if it goes through, this could be a mega deal in the cable space. it could be worth around $50 billion. at $95 a share for directv. that would be a 20% premium to the price of that stock.

welcome back, everybody. let's get a check on the day ahead. the battle of marriage equality will hit the u.s. court of appeals in virginia today. the court will hear a case that could overturn the amendment of the state constitution that defines marriage as between a man and a woman. virginia has one of the strictest bans on same-sex marriage in the country. president barack obama will award the medal of honor this afternoon at the white house. kyle j. white served in afghanistan in 2007. sergeant white will become the seventh living recipient to be awarded the medal of honor for "a"s in iraq or afghanistan. and michael jackson fans get ready for new music.
