>> i'm frances rivera and we begin with developing news. the nigerian military claims to have found the location of where nearly 300 kidnapped schoolgirls are being held seven weeks after they were taken by boko haram militants. here is nigeria's defense chief on the situation. >> the good news for the girls is we know where they are but we cannot tell you. we cannot tell you. military secret. just leave us alone, we are working. we will get the girls back. >> the defense official refused to elaborate on where they were allegedly found. he says nigeria will not use force to try to rescue them since a raid could be dangerous and threaten the girls' lives. senior u.s. defense officials cannot confirm that reported claim adding "we still don't know where the girls are." there was severe weather across the country this memorial day. a scary sight in north dakota. that's where at least one tornado was reported. severe storms moved over the midwest monday evening. the twister severely damaged an

oil worker's camp and injured nine people. in parts of texas, tornadic activity produced funnel clouds, damaged property and downed power lines. check out this time lapse. can you see the circulation over sterling city, texas, violent winds and also hail. in colorado, late season snow fell across portions of the rockies in full force. in just a few moments a look at the latest weather with nbc philadelphia meteorologist brittany shipp. firefighters in alaska are hoping for rain to gain a ham on the wildfire there. that blaze spread to 250 square miles larger than the city of chicago. about 1,000 homes have been evacuated south of anchorage. at this point the blaze can about 30 porras contained thanks to more than 600 firefighters on the scene. pope francis is planning a meeting with victims of sexual abuse. the pope announce d those while

victims. >> shots fired. >> reporter: it was a long planned outburst of staccato gunfire by the alleged killer, elliot rodger. in a matter of minutes he had taken the lives of six u.c. santa barbara students, three roommates, two young women, katie cooper and veronika weiss and chris michael-martinez. he hopes to meet with another grieving father, peter. >> he said, i want to work to try to prevent this from happening again. that's our common ground. >> reporter: in the continuing investigation a warrant was served on at least one of the three stores where rodger legally purchased his guns. and the sheriff's department is re-examining how rodger was able to fool trained deputies during an april 30th check on his well-being triggered by his parents' concerns. >> if they felt he was a danger
