take the heat. the redemption match. this is "way too early." hey, everybody. i'm thomas roberts. it's monday, june 16th. welcome to "way too early," the show that didn't stay up to watch the game of thrones finale. our lead story the obama administration says it will consider military action in iraq only if the government there works to bring together the competing sides. but that's no easy task. especially with new claims over the weekend that militants executed 1700 soldiers. fighters from the sunni extremist group isis boasted online about the reported mass murd murders. videos claimed to show young men in maz graves. nbc news hasn't confirmed the

authenticity of the images. the militants are trying to carve out their own islamic state in iraq and syria. so far the full-scale violence hasn't reached the capital where president maliki is facing pressure. want to bring foreign correspondent, amman, explain to us what you're seeing on the ground. how are people reacting to the news and the spread of isis. all right, we're having trouble with our shot with eamon. we'll get back to him there. as the iraq descends into chaos, mitt romney took --

the u.s. she came back with a clueless answer. want to go back to erbil, iraq and with eamon. how are they reacting to the spread of isis, the news of it? >> well, we have been speaking to a lot of people leaving the area from mosul and the northwestern part of the country. the reaction has been somewhat surprising. people are not angry or upset in terms of what isis has been doing. in the past several days there has been marked improvements in their life. they have reduced prices on basic food commodities and fuel and subsidies. they removed a lot of check points in this city. so surprisingly the firsthand accounts from people that life has improved over the short period of time. they didn't have any immediate

resentment towards isis. that's the issue we have been talking about the past several days. isis continues to expand its territory. lot of the people leaving this area, are they afraid of possible air strikes. they said, yes, absolutely. they don't want to see the u.s. carry out air strikes. they blame what's happening in the country on the government and maliki. but a very surprising revelation from some of the people that i have been speaking to that they have been disappointed with the government here the central government and would actually not necessarily reject the rule of isis for the time being. back here at home, as sergeant bergdahl continues recovering after five years in captivity, a general will begin

to envisit gate the circumstances that led to his capture. the general will dig into how and why bergdahl allegedly walked off his outpost back in 2009. some of bergdahl's fellow former soldiers have described him as a dese deserter. the washington post reporting his personal writings from 2006, wrote, paint a fragile young man struggling to maintain his mental stability. she calls him sensitive and vulnerable. new details put his fitness for duty into question before his deployment to afghanistan. bergdahl is said to be in good physical condition today and you now is undergoing that reintegration system.

traders respond to the news. one story likely to get some u.s. lawmakers hot under the collar, medtronii, this u.s. company based in minneapolis, is buying annish company. the interesting thing about this, medtronic is almost double the size of the irish company. but they're going to use this as moving their domicile to ireland. they'll pay a lower tax rate. u.s. lawmakers will be unhappy what in m and a an inversion deal. they move from u.s. corporate taxes to irish corporate taxes. which are lower. >> geoff, talk about this, amazon is getting into the smartphone business, what is the strategy behind it? >> this is fascinating, isn't

it? we have seen google in the smartphone business, didn't work out so well, we have seen facebook try, that didn't work out. microsoft scratching around with a weak share in terms of their involvement in smartphones. but for amazon, this might work, because they need to find ways of connecting you to the purchase you make on the amazon website. we're all going mobile. so, maybe a smartphone, which they're going to launch on wednesday, we believe, they think may make it easier for some of their existing users and subscribers to press the button on that purchase decision. we'll have to wait and watch just to see how good the smartphone actually is when it comes out this week. >> geoff, thank you. to many radio listeners he personified what it meant to be a deejay. >> hello, again, and welcome to
