tv   The Ed Show  MSNBC  July 2, 2014 2:00pm-3:01pm PDT

2:00 pm
violated that's our signal that government has gone too far. >> it is called one generation away, the erosion of relinlous liberty and along with spine tingling echo effects, it features ronald reagan and lots and lots of white people and what summer block buster would be complete without them, nazi. when you play the nazi card, you must be winning. it is out in september and not yet rated but we can safely predict an r for red meat. the ed show is up next. good evening, americans and welcome to "the ed show" i'm ready to go. let's get to work. >> usa! >> take back america. >> illegals are streaming over because it zntd seem anyone is stopping them. >> protesters pushed their way in and blocked the road. >> kind of an open invitation
2:01 pm
from our prds of the united states -- come on over, we would love to have you. >> before we were us as a nation and us as a people, we were them. >> to fix as much of our immigration system as i can on my own. >> republicans have said, no, no. >> without congress. >> an effort to erode the power of the legislative branch. >> pass some laws. >> oh, don't me do this. boehner sued me for this. >> oh, this is too hard. >> so sue me. >> good to have you with us tonight, thanks for watching, if what unfolded yesterday it california is any indication whatsoever as to what kind of summer we're going to have or what kind of recess the congressional folks are going to have in august, folks hang on to your hat. if there is one issue that has both parties heated this summer, it's immigration. the numbers are clear. three out of every four
2:02 pm
americans want something done. they want immigration reform passed. they think workers who are here illegally deserve a shot at citizenship, a pathway. something republicans will never give. for immigrant and their families, this is a deeply emotional issue. inaction literally means hard working families are being ripped apart. for one in four americans who are against reform, this issue brings out anger and hate. you can't say it any other way. this hate was on full display in mu mu murrieta, i call them an angry mob. they blocked buses carrying detainees heading for a border patrol facility. the immigrants by law, were to be process and placed with families around the country. they are under age. protesters were so intense the buses were forced to turn around
2:03 pm
and head to san diego. it was no doubt a heated situation. >> go back home. go back to guatemala. go back. >> usa! usa! >> protesters told nbc news immigrants were infecting americans with diseases. >> holding flags and flyers saying i am fwrants carry diseases, this group says the federal government is putting them and their community in danger. >> our agents are being infected. >> it's not a race issue, it is a protection america, protect our children issue. >> they say the move to bring undocumented immigrants for processing to murrieta from texas is a mistake. >> they should be sent back to their own country, repatriated
2:04 pm
to their home country. >> the scene is basically based in hate and fear. what are americans afraid of? what are these americans afraid of? that's the question. why do they feel threatened? there there's no way you can look at the video and say this protest is not about race. meanwhile, there were people who supported detainees at the scene. immigration supporters said it's our duty as americans to care for immigrants. >> i don't think it's fair to have these children crossing the border with -- they have necessities but it's the parents bringing them over. it's not their fault. someone needs to help them. why can't we help them. they are children. >> a sad sight i work in the emergency room and caring care of children that come over dehydrated, not being able to walk and communicate, that's a sad view. watching this happen, it breaks my heart and that's why i'm here. i have a right to support this cause. >> there's two sides to every
2:05 pm
story. and then of course there's the law. here's something the conservative media is not complaining to americans who may be watching or paying attention. the law that allowing central american children to stay in the united states was signed by george w. bush in 2008. it was part of a 2008 bipartisan law mandating certain protections for minors fleeing violence and poverty in central america. what's the bottom line here? this problem has been around the united states for a long time. there's been april lot of violence on children in central america and in south america. what is happened is that our congress acted on it in 2008. so president bush signed the law, that if under age people end up in our borders, we by law have to do something with them, process them and get them into families. now president obama is asking
2:06 pm
congress for a reversal of this law. and the facts are very clear. republicans inaction on immigration reform helped cause this entire mess. it's just another in the latest chapter in an obstruction of president obama. now, republicans actually have the nerve to try to pin this mess oj the president saying that he created this. this is a law the president has inherited and trying to deal with. there's no way you can call president obama weak on immigration. he's tried on a number of fronts to do something here. there have been roughly 2 million deportations since president obama took office. in 2012, your government, your tax dollars, we spent, $18 billion on immigration, get the word, enforcement. now, it's more than other law enforcement federal agencies combined when it comes to their budget. this includes you can take the fbi budget, the secret service budget and dea budget. we spend more money on
2:07 pm
immigration enforcement in this country. republicans always claim -- always claim they want to do something on immigration. they don't. it's all a dog and pony shee. they don't want to do anything on immigration because of the demographics which they politically fear. and you can tell that it is an election year because republicans are out stirring up these kinds of folks with fear and hate mongering. the bottom line in this, this is another situation that president obama has inherited. the only way he can fix this is executive orders because boehner and the republicans have tried to make president obama the boogy man in all of this. and you wonder why this president has a low poll rating. i'll have a lot more on this tomorrow morning on my podcast at wegoted.com. i get your cell phones out. tonight's question, are republicans responsible for our current immigration mess?
2:08 pm
text a for yes and b for no. you can go to our blog and we'll bring you the results later on in the show. this is a complex issue, not just about enforcement, it's about laws we're dealing with and where do we go from here? what is the solution. for more let me bring in arizona congressman raul grijalva. you have spoken with a number of people who have been connected to these children that are ending up in america. what is happening in other countries that is bringing these kids to this country sean what should we do about it, congressman? >> any parent, any grandparent, should understand that when a parent feels and community feels that it is more of a physical risk for children to remain in those communities and those
2:09 pm
countries, than it is to take a dangerous trip to try to come to the united states to expose yourself to human smugglers and organized crime, when they see that, less of a risk, than trying to survive in their own country, that's the gravity of what we're seeing. in this country, it's el salvador and gangs and organized crime. in guatemala, it is organized crime and honduras, a government yet to shake off and understand what civil law and the rule of law is. you have all of these factors coming in. and you have a region that historically, historically has been an area in which civil war, political unrest has been part of the history and when the bush administration carved out that area for a special custodial protection, they did so understanding history and understanding the current situation. what we need to do -- invest in those nations and build them up.
2:10 pm
>> so what happens here is that we dealt with this legislatively, that if these kids end up in the united states, that we would provide custodial protection and they would be placed into families around the country. do you agree with that law? change that law? >> no, we shouldn't. that law was there for the purpose, the circumstances that created that law are now, are worse now than they were then. when you have a democrat, and a republican, that happen to be from texas, all of a sudden, feeling that intensity that's going on in that border as we have felt it here in arizona, suddenly say we need to treat these kids as we treat other kids which is to deport other kids, then that's going to be a huge political battle for hue man tear kbryans and religious groups and rule of law, the
2:11 pm
effort to eliminate that protection for those children, i can guarantee you will be part of the debate this coming week or the week after. i'm opposed to it and think it's simplistic. i think they are just covering themselves from what we saw in california. and hate radio and the bias fox network continue to feed disease, violence, open borders. it's obama's fault, to the public, build up that fear, build up that hatred and you saw the tip of the iceberg in california and if we allow carve-outs, allow to continue to fall backwards on this issue, and not do anything, then what we saw in california is going to be replicated along the border. >> well, let me ask you about that, congressman. how concerned are you about what unfolded in california yesterday? >> you know, i've been saying for a long time that one of the biggest reasons to solve the
2:12 pm
immigration and fix this broken system is because of the social fabric of our great country. the social deviciveness and underlining issue that permeates of race, continues to dominate the discussion. the more time the republican majority and the republicans in congress continue to use this issue as a political wedge, fodder for their base, the more the rip in the social fabric becomes more of a reality. this worries me the most. this country is about integrating all of us. i love this country and think opportunity like that shouldn't be closed automatically. >> congressman, i would label those folks that were out there yesterday as a mob mentality. they turn those buses around and took the law into their own hands. now, is there a double standard what we're seeing here, did these protesters break the law
2:13 pm
and should they be prosecuted in your eyes? what should unfold here? >> i used the example of the double standard right now when it comes to the political ideology. take, for instance, welfare queen bundy doesn't pay and nothing happens. the supremacists that support him aim rifles at u.s. marshals, no arrest. and potentially maybe that's the best way to do it. some young people, dreamers throw themself in front of buses taking people to deportation, they are arrested. if it's the rule of law and equal application of that rule, then i think it's got to be applied equally. from what i can tell there's a double standard as to where it's applied and to whom it's applied. >> okay, a lot of facets to this story. congress raul grijalva, thanks so much. i want to bring in e.j. dionne.
2:14 pm
it looks like we're at a moral crossroads if abiding by the law and processing these children, this has gotten very little attention and what do we do as a country? do we reverse the law when conditions a s deteriorating a child smuggling going on. what's the right move and moral dilemma? >> i think the congressman pointed to something very important. this isn't the first time that america has been a place where people who are suffering under nazi oppression and communist oppression, particularly in cuba or victims of civil wars like the one in lebanon in the '70s and 80s. they wanted to come to america and often sent their kids ahead of them because parents worry about their kids. that is understandable. and u.s. has always struggled how do we give asylum and deal with an influx of people and we've got a particularly tough
2:15 pm
one now because these smugglers are operating in connection with the fears of these parents to bring them here. i just would much rather have us be a country of asylum than a country that says we're going to turn everybody back. but that creates a political problem. and as you said in your setup piece, congress's failure to sort of sit down and work out a comprehensive immigration law, blocking of that in the house of representatives bit the republican leaders, that is a big deal. we ought to be working on that now instead of kicking it down the road for political reasons. >> so when the republicans say they want to do something on immigration reform, isn't it just say big lie? they have no intention of doing anything. it seems they want this situation in california to be the norm so they can say they are following what the people want when we know that's not the case. >> if i can put this in political context.
2:16 pm
i do think the politics prelts to the substance here. who's going to decide the 2014 election. for the democrats, it's two groups, it's the base and whether they turn out and it's swing voters and who do they blame for the dysfunction in washington. and i think what you're finally seeing president obama do is say, look, it's not some generalized mess in washington. it's republicans primarily in the house and also through filibusters in the senate who are blocking things like immigration reform. i think that speaks to the base that wants him to speak out but also making a case to swing voters. on the republican side, they are primarily counting on their base and a larger percentage of their base then of all republicans are very strongly opposed to immigration reform. so speaker boehner and people like paul ryan have given strong statements publicly and to private and religious leaders that they want to pass immigration reform. now they completely backed off
2:17 pm
that. that's something for which they should be held accountable, not nor partisan reasons but because that's the reality of what's happened. >> e.j. dionne, "washington post," msnbc contributor, good to have you with us tonight. >> great to be with you, ed. >> remember to answer tonight's question there at the bottom of the screen, share your thoughts on twitter and like us on facebook. we appreciate that. we want to know what you think, give us a comment. coming up, is it time to take a stand against bad trade deals that are putting american jobs and middle class in jeopardy? no doubt about it. we'll have more from our series, fighting chance america e american steel. first, wall street speculators are driving up your holiday travel cost. bernie sanders joins me next in trenders, stay with us. we're right back.

when folks think about what they get from alaska, they think salmon and energy. but the energy bp produces up here creates something else as well: jobs all over america. engineering and innovation jobs. advanced safety systems & technology. shipping and manufacturing. across the united states, bp supports more than a quarter million jobs. when we set up operation in one part of the country, people in other parts go to work. that's not a coincidence. it's one more part of our commitment to america.

2:23 pm
that the rebels can take over is what's driving up the coast of oil. >> so wrong. >> excessive oil speculation has significantly increased oil and gas prices. the american people are sick and ti tired from the oil companies, using every excuse they possibly can. >> joining us tonight, senator bernie sanders of vermont. always good to have you with us on ed show. i want you to respond to that comment made by the analyst, that fear in the marketplace. is it fear in the mrkt place. what can be done to stop this out of control speculation? sfl the price of gasoline at the pump has gone up by more than a dollar a gallon in the last five years and yet there is more supply today than there was five years ago and less demand. so if you had a normal functioning market with supply
2:24 pm
and demand, the price should go down. what the oil companies always do is if it rains, they raise prices. if it snows they raise prices and sunny they race prices. . the fact of the matter is exxon-mobil made $9 billion in profits the first quarter of this year. the real story is the oil futures market is not controlled by people who actually use oil. it's controlled by goldman sachs, morgan stanley and other wall street speculators and their function, needless to say, is to make as much money as they can by speculating. and what we have heard is various -- estimates as to how much more we are paying whether it's 40, 50, 60 cents a gallon because of that speculation, i don't know exactly what it is. there's no question that oil speculation by wall street has
2:25 pm
driven up oil prices very significantly. >> well, senator, you introduced a bill in the senate last year that is similar to the one that failed in congress in 2008. what -- would that be a game changer? would your bill change? >> it would be -- look, right now, what we have seen in recent years is that the percentage of the oil futures market controlled by wall street has soared. we think that it is about 70 to 80% of the market now controlled by wall street. not people, like airlines or trucking companies or oil fuel deals who use the oil but wall street which is speculating on it. what our legislation does, 20 co-sponsors in the senate and introduced in the house. what our legislation does is break up the amount of control that any one company can have. and that would in my view drive
2:26 pm
speculation down significantly and result in lower prices at the gas pump. >> well, what part does speculation play in the conservative push for domestic oil production? i mean, it's a rather convoluted formula we're seeing unfold. >> i think you are raise a very, very important issue. ed, for those people who say we need to produce more and more oil because the more supply we have, the lower the cost will be for the consumer, sadly, that is just not the case. once again, we have seen in the last five years a dollar increase in a gallon of gas at the pump at the same time as we have more supply today than we did five years ago and less demand than we have five years ago. i think what you have now is two giant entities that are ripping off the consumer. and that is the oil companies, exxon-mobil and others making
2:27 pm
huge profits and at the same time, wall street speculators on the oil futures market. right now my target is to break up the amount of oil that any one entity could hold that would drive down speculation, lower oil prices and gas prices. >> finally, any republicans on board with you on this? your 20 co-sponsors early on? >> nope, we have 19 democrats and myself, an independent. but i would hope, especially as people do more driving during the summer that the pressure builds on congress to do something about these outrageously high gas prices. >> yeah, well, they are using iraq to do all of this and what they say the uncertainty in the middle east yet we're pumping more oil than we ever have. bernie sanders great to have you -- thanks so much. >> okay, yes, sir. >> go ahead. go ahead. >> i was just going to say, somebody should write a book, somebody should write a book about all of the excuses that
quote
2:28 pm
the oil companies give for raising prices. it would be a very funny book. >> it would be very funny book. and they also put -- ought to put a chapter as to why bp isn't paying for the damage they did in the gulf, which is another story we'll bring you back on. thank you, senator. appreciate your time tonight. still ahead, it's time for washington to take action to protect american jobs. our series fighting chance american steel continues, plus is it getting hot in florida. the florida governor's race is heating up and getting dirty. charlie crist coming up on "the ed show." i'm taking questions, ask ed live when we come back.

president obama's latest poll results? well, the story out today is the president is the worst president of modern day history and i'm comparing him to bush, the poll numbers are low. i fear that we are becoming a country that -- you no, we're never satisfied with anything. the market, stock market is scratching 17,000, 52 months of private sector job growth and millions affected by health care reform, saved the automobile industry and not happy with what president obama is doing. most destructive president in the history of the country. we're not satisfied? poll numbers mean nothing. kids got shot up and killed in a connecticut school house, 90% of the country wanted background checks. we didn't get it. a lot more coming up. stay tuned.

the iron range with iron miners and steel workers. they say that illegal dumping of steel into the united states at below market costs by countries like south korea is driving down prices and flat out killing jobs. coming up on july 10th, the united states commerce department is expecteded to hand down a ruling determining if the practices are in fact legal and whether the united states can impose tariffs on foreign steel. if action isn't taken in washington, workers are won't be the only ones affected. we hear elected officials talk about the middle class on a regular basis xs we've got save the middle class and focus on saving middle class jobs. tonight i want to focus on the middle class, that town of lorraine, ohio, a city that reinvolves around american made steel. these are the people who will be affected by july 10th's ruling.
2:38 pm
>> how do you feel when you get laid off? >> it's a big hit to your pride. i'm a pretty straightforward guy but there are a couple of days when i was looking at my budget and all of my bills and you know, almost in tears because i was looking at how am i going to make this big and this big work and do this. and it's pretty rough. >> it's friday night in middle america here in lorraine, ohio at the american legion. these steel workers work together and play together and solve problems together. as a community, they have each other's back. a south korean trade agreement putting american steel workers on edge and middle class
2:39 pm
security in question. it's on mind of every resident. >> why do you think you get laid off? >> from everything i've heard, the orders are slow and mostly because foreign markets were pushing pipe into our country and into the world market at a cost at less than what we can make it. if we have to sell pipe at the certain amount price so our company remains profitable and our union workers keep working. there's companies and countries selling that pipe that meets almost up to what our quality specifications are but selling at it a considerable cost less because they are using nonunion labor, child labor, whar their country deems they can use to build the same product. as corporations in this country in the capitalist society are going to buy the pipe and save themselves money because of the profit margin. and in doing so, it's reduced our orders down so that our mill is working at the creeping pace
2:40 pm
and a lot of younger employees like myself are now unemployed. >> when all of things you describe about the market and price, do you just take a step back and say, why are we doing this? as a country? >> yeah, we're -- inadvertently cutting our own throats. this country is built on backbone of the middle class. if you were trying to make profits for corporations which are driving out the middle class in the long run, those tax incomes the middle class is making, they are not going to be there. you're going to have a group of people making walmart wages left and they are having to collect welfare just so they can put food on the table. >> the steel industry in lorraine ohio, go back to 1895. simply put, everything reinvolves around this plant.
2:41 pm
>> this is a business of third generation steel worker and this is what we know in the city of lorraine. steel is lorrain and the direction we're going, we're proud. we're proud. we will always be proud when it comes to steel making. we need the level playing field like everybody is saying. give us the opportunity and we'll show it. we always do. >> lorraine has a long history of steel making and i'm third generation also, both of my grandfathers worked in the mill, my father worked in the mill. >> this is what you want to do. >> this is what i want to do. i enjoy what i do. and help the community by doing what i do. and i just hope that the future is there for the generations behind me to also provide for this community. >> they are sick of politicians talking about the middle class and then making deals with
2:42 pm
countries that undercut their way of life. >> claim by u.s. steel that south korea was selling tubing here in the u.s. below costs but you know what the u.s. commerce department says, nope. now putting tariffs on the other countries but not south korea. that reelgly provides direct economy tigs to our steel makers here at home. >> doesn't it infuriate you what washington is doing? >> it sure is. yeah. i just wonder who makes the decisions here. >> worried about taking care of public and not special interest and that's what it comes down to. on the tv every day we're talking about takers and entitlements. if it's not for good paying jobs, investment in this country and supporting of our infrastructure, where are we going to be in ten years, 15 years, 20 years, what kind of opportunities are my kids going to have? let's not even get to the point
2:43 pm
where we're talking about my grand kids, we're talking about my children. >> yeah. >> we're talking about everybody's children in this room. you know, the abuse that's going on by our so-called public servants and not allowing hard working americans to fully utilize a capacity and our skill and talents is a disgrace. i'm fighting mad like everybody else in the room. enough is enough. we deserve better and we are better. let's act like it. >> some jobs have been lost and there could be more to come, which puts pressure on the safety net. >> there are some politicians, one in particular, paul ryan, that would call a guy like you a taker. >> you know what i've taken in my life? i've taken a lot of bull.
2:44 pm
if i'm a taker because my job is not there at this moment for me to work in the state of ohio i have to put in two applications a week to try to find a week. i just paid money out of my pocket, which my funds are already tight to rebuild my computer today so i can pull my resume out and send my resume to places. you know, i'm not a taker. i just don't want to be taken advantage of. >> chinese dumping almost bankrupt american steel welcome a decade ago. it took the brink of bankruptcy and end of the industry for the government to step in and do something. what we're saying and hoping, we're hoping everyone will real lids, we need to stop the backsliding before it's a catastrop catastrophe. we're already in dire straits, we need to slow this erosion of the american dream. >> still ahead, dark money casts
2:45 pm
a shadow over florida's governor's race. charlie crist joins me. stay with us. of the services your vehicle needs. so prepare your car for any road trip by taking it to an expert ford technician. because no matter your destination good maintenance helps you save at the pump. get our multi-point inspection with a synthetic blend oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection and more for $29.95 or less. get a complete vehicle checkup only at your ford dealer.

shinglesthe blisters tremendously as a pilot. and the pain in my scalp area and down the back of my neck was intense. it would have been virtually impossible in that confined space with the rash to move to change radio frequencies. i would just stop and literally freeze up. i mean it hurt. i couldn't even get up and drive let alone teach somebody and be responsible in an airplane. when my doctor told me that shingles came from the chickenpox virus i was very surprised. for two weeks i sat up in bed because i couldn't lay down. i had the scabs all throughout the side of my head and into the upper neck region. i didn't want to do anything except go to sleep and have the pain be over. as a pilot that meant i was grounded.

and in pretenders tonight, calm me maybe, rick santorum, who couldn't get enough votes to be president, maybe, folks, some folks weren't ready for the right to cast a ballot. that's right, santorum says limiting the vote to white male landowners may not have been a horrible idea. >> looking at the united states, were we rds for an election when the united states was formed to have everybody in the united states vote? well, our founders didn't think so. they limited the people who could vote in an election. you could say it's horrible or terrible. maybe it was or maybe it wasn't. but it was a decision made to make sure there was some, you know, some continuity and stability within the government that was consistent with the values that the government was
2:50 pm
founded upon. democracy is something that comes when it's appropriate to come. >> rick, you're in favor of voter expression, that's what it sounds like to me. the only the founders latest ground work for the country but greatness was achieved when more people had a voice in their government. voting is the basic right for represented democracy. if rick santorum believes there's a gray area, he can keep on pretending. hey. i'm ted and this is rudy. say "hi" rudy. welcome back to the ed show. we focus on florida tonight. a dark cloud over the sunshine state. republican governor rick scott is trying to defeat his opponent charlie crist by spending millions of dollars on television and radio ads. scott and his, let's get to work, committee are stooping to a new low by going negative on crist's family. . >> millionaire charlie crist refuses to release his spouses tax return. candidate for governor routinely show those returns. rick scott did it four years ago. so what is charlie crist hiding? >> meanwhile, orlando sentinel reported a mysterious political group called progressive choice pack paid for racially charged radio ads. ads accuse former governor charlie crist of harsh policies which negatively impact
2:55 pm
african-americans. >> while chris was coddling the gun lobby, he was cracking down on us passing maximum sentencing laws and enacting the country's strictist penalties against nonviolent offenders, many of whom just happen to be black. >> local reports say nobody seems to know who's funding that pac. but another conservative group is very open about supporting rick o scott. americans for prosperity gets help from the koch brothers. two contenders in the florida governor's race are on a commission course in what promises to be one of the meanest governor races in the nation. joining me tonight, charlie crist, democratic candidate for governor in florida. charlie, good to have you with us tonight. i appreciate it. i'm told by friends in florida that these ads are nonstop against you. >> they are. >> is rick scott running a dirty
2:56 pm
campaign against you? >> i don't think there's any question about it. he is running scared. and i can understand why. he is one of the least popular governors in the country and he's had policies that hurt our people, hurt our teachers in the classroom. when you're not supporting education, when you're not supporting the environment, when you're supporting fat cat friend and not helping the middle class have a better opportunity for a brighter future of your state, you've got try to tear down the other guy because you don't have anything good to talk about in the four years you've been governor already. so that's what we have. >> can you match human money? can you match human money? >> no. he is already spent -- go ahead. >> they're saying you haven't released your taxes. clarify that for us tonight. >> well, i have. in fact, i've released ten years of my tax returns. and rick scott has released two years of his. he said three. but he got an extension on the 2013. so he really hasn't done that either. so he is being fraudulent about
2:57 pm
that. but i've released three times what he released. it's a lie. it's not true. it's what he does. this is the kind of campaign we have come to expect from rick scott. >> they want your wife to release her taxes. is that going to happen? and is it important, as you see it? >> it's not important. you know, women have a right to choose, ed. and my wife is included in that category. she has the right to choice. it's her decision. we file separately. and so, i'm required, not to release my tax returns, but to put forward my assets and my net worth, and i did that. and i added to it by releasing my tax returns. which i've always done any time i've run for office back to 1992. so i'm mr. transparent in this race. i'm running against the guy who plead the fifth 75 times sew wouldn't have to answer questions. he is the untransparent muddy candidate, mud-slinging candidate. i'm the transparent candidate
2:58 pm
who released three times as many of the tax returns as incumbent rick scott. but it's not people. it is not really about him or me. it is about people in our state. they need a better chance. they need somebody who's got their back. they need somebody to fight for the middle class. fight for school teachers. make sure they work hand in hand with friend and administration in washington to make sure they do what's right for people, rick scott rejected it. that would have been about 30,000 jobs. about 2.5 billion in investment. that's just rock. >> the white house released data saying medicaid expansion would create more than 63,000 jobs in florida, mainly in health care, from 2014 to 2017. will this be a factor in the race? >> a huge factor, ed. no question about it. rick scott hasn't lifted a finger to get medicaid expansion done in our state. as a result of that, almost a million of my fellow floridians, again today, aren't getting the
2:59 pm
health care that they deserve. it would create over 60,000 jobs. and invest over 51 billion in florida over the next ten years, money that floridians have sent to washington and deserve to have september back. but rick scott doesn't believe in that. because he doesn't like the president and doesn't want him getting credit for doing anything right. sew is blocking anything he is trying to do to help florida. that's nonsense. it is time for common sense. >> i see that republican governor's association contributed more than $2.5 million to scott. more than any other candidate for governor. quickly, why is that? >> because he needs it. he is going to attempt to try to make lemon i'd out of lemons. his four years have been a disaster. he cut education. hurt the environment. not fighting for the middle class. tax breaks to the rich. a nightmare tea party administration. and florida deserves better. that's not what floridians want.
3:00 pm
that's why i'm running. to give them a brighter future and better way. >> charlie crist, spending time in florida. great to have us with us, thanks so much. that's "the ed show." i'm ed schultz. "politicsnation" with reverend al sharpton starts right now. good evening, rev. >> good evening. and thanks to you for tuning in. tonight, gop hands a gift to president obama and it sticks with its absurd law sought. today a dramatic new sign of just how much speaker boehner's lawsuit over executive orders is back firing. the democratic congressional campaign committee reports it raised over $2.5 million in the six days after boehner's announcement. including support from 30,000 first-time donors. 30,000 people. people are sick
